It seems impossible in an isolated 1v1 lane. As a melee, if you go in on him, he stuns you point blank then chases with E and gets autos off. if you farm passively then you still get harassed and lose a ton of CS. Even with a jungler gank, unless they get a good lockdown with Vi, Xin or any other high CC gank jungler, he just E's away. I know I'm playing wrong though, because Kennen isn't 100% win rate.
He is squishy, and he only gets mobility from his lightning ball attack. Wait for him to waste it, then use your mobility to close the gap.
Buy a banshees; Buy merc treads; dodge his q; stun him; slow him; just farm and then catch him off guard... as an ex kennen main, kennen is very vulnerable when his ult is down. All you have to do is bait his ult and then go in and kill him while its on cd.
For these kinds of questions I'd recommend looking at diamond level guides, the kind of stuff you can find on lolking. Look at your own champ vs Kennen but also just look at the guides for Kennen and why high level players think some matchups are hard for him. He has champs he is strong or weak against and depending on which you are you'll play the lane differently. Dr. Mundo vs Kennen will look (and play) a lot differently than Vlad or Teemo vs Kennen.
you don't beat kennen in a 1v1 as a melee champion, period... you just hope to have janna on your team to ult him away in teamfights (seriously there's like a 20% disparity in kennen's winrate depending on janna being on the other team or not)
I feel like Team Rocket everytime I'm matched up against Kennen
I play a bit of kennen, he is a great lane bully because most people don't know how to go against him. If you don't have a gap closer and hard cc, you probably won't win lane. You need ganks, and you should buy merc treads. Pay attention to his shurikins and if it is electrified, he will most likely aa u, just stay out of range until he uses it on a minion. When he doesn't have his passive is the only time you should engage on him in a 1v1. His passive mark comes every fifth auto, so count them if u can. Dodge as many q's as possible, as landing a q pretty much garuntees a stun with a q aa w combo.
If u have hard cc, like, for example IRELIA (whom I personally have a hard time against as kennen, for melee at least) wait for the kennen to blow their aa passive, or q, or even w, JUST SO U CAN FORCE HIS E (the speed ability) It has a pretty long cool down early game, and is literally his only escape. Kennen is very squishy early, so u have to bully him HARD This can be difficult for people that use mana, so don't spam abilities too much If it's ranked, go someone with range. Every time he hits a minion, attack him (while still dodging the q!) Eventually he will have to b I'm no pro but I can generally do ok against a kennen, u just have to make sure he doesn't get the three marks on you As an adc against an adc kennen (which needs to be a thing, PLEASE) I recommend mercurial scepter ( or at least qss) I guess if you are going a fighter in the top lane it could work as well. If the enemy plays too passive I almost always win lane as kennen, so play somewhat aggressive, but not stupid. I hope I helped :)
