@Kalista players: How to adopt a puppy
So the match starts and you choose your very own puppy at the fountain.
Taking care of puppies is no easy matter though! They are prone to panicking when you pick them up, and may run completely away or into a dangerous spot. Their natural instinct is to jump back out of your embrace and hide.
To alleviate this, make sure to pick up your puppy only when it knows and has confidence in what you're doing.
- When you're chasing the neighbour's cat off your flowers and your puppy is trying to keep up with its little legs, it is okay to pick it up so it can jump farther and scare the cat better.
- Should your other neighbour's pitbull emerge from the bushes and attack your puppy, allow your puppy to jump into your arms before you hop away on your pogo stick.
- When it's trying to jump over a barrier, feel free to pick it up and let it jump to the other side.
If you make sure to not pick up your puppy unless both of you have the same goal in mind, you put its little mind at ease and it will feel more confident in your decision.
Do not randomly pick up your puppy just because you're confused and don't know what else to do! It is not a trained guide dog, it can't make a decision for you. It will only get scared and do something adorably silly, then hide under the cupboard for an hour barking at you. It may even run off to an animal shelter and the cops may take away your right to own a puppy.
And of course, the bonding process is a difficult time for both. Make sure to do so in the familiar environment of your fountain!
