Someone had claimed baron was worth exposing your inhibs

Lets look at the numbers for a second:

Baron - 300 gold + 25 to the killer 800 Local and 600 Global exp

Towers in general: Outer 125 gold and 0 exp Inner is 150 gold and 30 exp Inhib is 175 gold and 100 exp Nexus is 50 gold and 0 exp

When you expose your lanes, you have to defend or winions will destroy your base. There's a difference between a defensive baron and sacrificing your base to baron.

Knowing when to take a defensive baron is critical because it can mean you can turtle for a bit and regain equal footing. When you sacrifice your base for baron, you lose.

Please don't think baron is the end all be all of objectives.

Definitely not worth exposing inhibs unless you are confident you can get back to base before an inhib is taken and then win the game with baron buff. One of the early games in the lcs last split was dignitas vs some other team (i don't remember who but it doesn't matter), and dignitas should have lost, but the other team decided to do baron when they had a minion wave at their mid inhib tower, they could not take baron really fast, and dignitas's top laner interupted four backs with irelia costing the team who took baron the game.

I don't think its something you can say definitely one way or the other. I have been in several games where we have to go for Baron because if the other team gets it they will win the game. Sometimes the only way to stall the game out long enough to give you team a chance to win is to go for that risky Baron even if it means your towers take some damage.

I find that people also run into the same dilemma when deciding to whether to take an enemy's inhib or going for baron. In this case the issue really isn't which is better, its a question of what can you take and still escape without anyone dying. I've seen so many teams win a great team fight only to give back an ace because they overstay trying to get an inhib after the enemy team respawns.

I should have been more specific, in the particular game I had, we lost 3 inhib turrets because they wanted to get baron.
