Jungler ettiquete

Now I've seen some bad junglers in my day and it's OK if you're not good at ganking. But there's one jungling faux pas that you should not commit if you're not successfully ganking... Don't come into a lane and farm minions while a laner is there when you have not ganked and you have not assisted in getting a lane kill.

Why?

  1. You push your allies lane up to the enemy tower and make it easier for them to get ganked
  2. You deny your own ally lane exp and lane gold and therefore give your enemy a better advantage.
  3. You're allowing the enemy jungler to invade your jungle and/or gank other lanes while you do nothing constructive to help the team.

All you do is slow down your whole team's progress when you do this. Farm the jungle if you have no gank opportunities. Don't come in and start killing minions when you're not asked to help push a lane. You're not being helpful to your team. You're actually hurting your team.

When I jungle I generally avoid taking minions that the laner can get, even if I'm helping push. Farming the jungle instead leads to more total gold on the team.

One thing I should add, if you ping that you're going in and the engage fails, ping that you're leaving. You'll get less Threshes that miss hook, flash in and miss flay, and then chase under the tower because their precious little minds think you're somehow going to follow.

1) You push your allies lane up to the enemy tower and make it easier for them to get ganked

  • When they push your lane to the turret it actually makes the wave push back at you or even out. if it pushes back at out it provides a big window for a gank in the future, plus the wave in the turret and pushing back denies enemy xp and cs. The position of the wave doesn't effect the ability to be ganked necessarily because the jungler can lane gank just as effectively if you are at your tower. Having a centered wave is the safest.

2) You deny your own ally lane exp and lane gold and therefore give your enemy a better advantage.

  • If the lane is pushing the opposite way you actually lose more xp and cs than if he allowed the wave to push slowly. if the wave is pushing towards you, it denies you xp and cs to tower. I would rather someone get the solo xp than no one.

3) You're allowing the enemy jungler to invade your jungle and/or gank other lanes while you do nothing constructive to help the team.

  • you are getting tower pressure if the jungler is there pushing the wave. No matter what the jungler does he is trading something off. if the jungler ganks he is giving up vision pressure. if the jungler is farming he is giving up ganking pressure. if the jungler counter jungles he is neither ganking nor pushing to get pressure.

just giving you a different perspective. The situations might be different, but i am generalizing what each thing means when you are a jungler.

With the exception of fast pushing to chunk a tower when the enemy laner is dead/missing, I'd 100% agree with this. But if the enemy is gone hurting the tower is great for the team (normally) and feeding the creeps to his tower denies them as much as splitting exp denies you.

There is nothing more irritating than when a jungler shows up, smites your cannon minion, and then walks away.

as someone who jungles roughly 70% of my games, the bigger issue is when you do gank, your allies are afraid to initiate when you ping for them to do so, and even more so than that they sit back and just farm while you try to gank for them.

When an allie refuses to assist in a gank, I take all their farm and push the lane to the tower.

If you are going to waiste my time by being stupid, then I will immediately return the favor.

TL;DR don't be a dick and assist your jungle

Most laners are good sports but then there are some of those special people out there that need a chair to the face. Just the other day I got my top laner a kill and started pushing the freshly reset wave, I wasn't even taxing. This jackass pings me to back off even though I'm giving him all the gold until he starts becoming toxic in chat.

Do people not understand this game?

I think it's fine for a jungler to take a couple of minions from the lane, but a jungler definitely should never go to a lane specifically to take cs. Either go in to gank the lane or simply pass through the lane, although I would recommend not simply passing through the lane because the enemy team will see where you are.

However, I am not against going to a lane and aggroing a minion to another lane.

if the laner sucks and just died for the 3rd time i usually try and fast push when the enemy backs so at least that wont be 1000 gold AND 2 levels stronger than everyone on our team. if you are a liability at least be understanding when you are treated like one and accept the lost lane

I always thought that well.. its better thant I get all this gold than if they die to turrets or other minions, das all

Is there something for forcing the enemy laner to go back? It seems like it's in the middle of "get a kill" (push dat lane) and "burning summs" (get the hell out).

Another thing, junglers, stop refusing to gank lanes because you don't like a certain champion in a certain lane. Far too many games do I get crushed bot, when asking the jungler for ganks, but they refuse. They call me a feeder and that they don't help failing lanes. I tell them that if you would have ganked when we needed help, we wouldn't be feeding. They reply that "oh you shouldn't have gone x bot then" or, and I swear this actually happened "you should have taken flash then." That's right, a jungler refused to gank my lane because I didn't take flash. On a champion that I main, and am comfortable enough playing that I don't need to waste Summoner Flash on and can replace it with something more useful (like teleport or ignite).

It's guys like this that make me feel that the jungle main community is only slightly less entitled and toxic than the ADC main community.

So as a jungle/top main my two cents on the issue is one laners do not excessively ping or talk in chat that you need a gank. Junglers for the most aren't deaf and heard you the first time. what a lot of players in pretty much every elo forget is that the jungler while yes can gank lanes has the priority of securing the neutral objectives such as dragon and deep vision. When I jungle I honestly rarely tax lanes the reason for it is I play to where I make sure if a gank is going to score a kill the enemy laner and or jungler dies. I have learned the hard way of too many times laners back off when I try to give them the kill so in situations where I get the kill I will depending on map status help push wave into tower for tower damage or leave to do other things however if my laner does get the kill I will be taxing lane if it's a siege wave I'll take siege minion and leave otherwise usually 2-3 casters. The worst feeling as a jungler is knowing that there is nothing you can do when your laners blindly shove to tower and request help or specifically this scenario of top and bot lanes start feeding intentional or not but the fact that it's hard to watch over both lanes when you can only be on one side of the map at a time.

Narasimha11/10/2014, 12:50:25 AM1 votes

I don't think many junglers go "Eh, I'm not doing anything, let me just go this lane and farm it." Chances are, if they're in the lane, they're either ganking or just passing through. And even if the gank fails, let them take a cs or 2. They still applied pressure, giving up their own farm to do so.

Low Elo jungling burns me

Grimspeake11/10/2014, 12:56:28 AM1 votes

i'll tax as hard as I want if the laner messed up the gank or forces me to babysit their turret because they let themselves get poked out of lane

RiotRiot MechaMoose11/11/2014, 10:56:42 PM1 votes

If there's no way I can get the CS because im out of lane, I dont mind if the jungler last hits. But if I've got my lane frozen in a good spot please don't farm it out :(

But taking a last hit or two while im backing is totally cool with me!
