Vlad advice and match ups?

So I'm looking to add vlad (and then maybe swain after) to my top/mid picks. Picked him up mostly bc I play heimer usually and vlad is a terrible match up for hiemer so if my main is picked I have a good option to play into it.

Wondering what are good match ups for Vlad bc I'd like to start using him in match ups he's strong against to get better w/ him before I start picking him early and having to play him into counters. Basically I'm looking for some training wheels here since I really just play ranked now days and don't want to be handicapping my team bc I'm playing a champ I'm not as comfortable on as I am on my main. Any advice?

Against melee except fiora/riven.

he's bad against heavy all in champs since his early game is terrible. Other than that, he always wins.

you have to be able to farm and poke at same time, hard for newbs because he is a late game champ that can do bad early game unless you know how

Ugh, tell me about it. I thought CSing w/ heimer could be a pain bc his wrench can be a little clunky (not bad really) and you have to time both the minion damage and turrets which switch aggro and laser occasionally. Vlad has one of the worst AAs for getting CS of any champ I've ever tried playing lol. You have to let the minions get super low and you have a funky delay on it. Which can be a pain since you want to save q for the enemy champ 95% of the time (pretty much unless you need to kill two creeps at the same time or REALLY need to sustain back up after a trade or gank).
