Plz remove t1 and t2 runes from the game.

They are a huge noob trap. Players on smurfs don't ever buy them bc they know better, but brand new players by them, then have to buy t3 runes and champs to be ready to play at level 30. What's the cost of 10 t1 runes (maybe 20 or 30 if they build 2 pages they have) and then 20-40 t2? Why should new players be given a chance to waste that much IP toward something they can't even get rid of with the combine function any more? Plz Rito, SET MY PEOPLE FREE! (from their noob willingness to buy into the trap)

T1's are fine, they're extremely cheap and the stats they give relative to their price is okay.

T2's are an inordinate waste of IP though.

vSuperG2 votes

T1's are great until you can afford T3's, the difference between them is large but T1's are definitely worth getting. Except quints those are crap.

AbodyHUN6662 votes

T2 runes are still pretty cheap though. I would happily spend 1000 ip on a smurf to upgrade it's T1 runes to T2 because I know it takes months afterwards to get those T3 ones.

Ignis013 votes

T1 - T2 Remove them completely.

T3 Reduce prices. Holy F they're expensive.

I'm honestly in favor of T1 runes since Riot changed the way they are in the shop a while back. There are 4 of each rune available and they cost 5 IP each, except quintessences which you'll get no more than 2 for 15 IP each before Greater Runes are unlocked.

Asking players to spend 5 IP each time they level up seems like a nice way to ease people into the inevitable mountainous costs and options of T3 runes.

I do like the idea though of having the only runes be Lesser and Greater since that would be a lot less of an IP waste and still have that easing into the feature for new players.

GroundRuleDouble5 votes

There is nothing wrong with T1 runes. They are so cheap that it's okay to buy them. You make up the IP from buying 2 pages worth in one game. They are good for a pre-20 jungler or someone wanting to have that early advantage.

I just wish I could get rid of the T2 runes I have. I don't need them any more or ever again.

Taarki2 votes

What if Riot implemented an upgrade system, where you could upgrade T1 to T2, and from T2 to T3. That way the lower tier runes we have would not simply be sitting there doing nothing since we could upgrade them.

I've never seen a good reason not to implement this change, other than A, Riot doesn't have the resources to do it, and B, some runes don't translate well into other copies.

To which I think the simplest answer is to just make the "cost" of buying a t3 rune alternately be, X IP and a t1 or t2 rune.

GroundRuleDouble1 votes

Remember the Rune combiner? That was the attempt to get rid of lower tier runes. However, you don't really need to get rid of those low tier runes. If you reach the max amount of runes you can have, just send a support ticket and they'll get rid of them.

Kat Goddess3 votes

T1- Kinda Worthless T2- Most cost efficient runes there are. They are by far the best runes to buy until you have lots of IP. T3 - Only begin to be really useful once you have a large champion pool and spare IP. Or if there is not a tier 2 version of the rune. They give you the biggest advantage, however they are not worth buying until you have played for quite a few months and are playing ranked.

T RexHasTinyArms2 votes

Honestly, if you're going into ranked honestly you need a smaller champion pool unless you're play or diamond. Getting better at a few champions can get you out of silver and bronze easy. Honestly I find myself needing more rune pages rather than champs in ranked bc you can win different match ups with the same champ if you have different runes.

Kat Goddess1 votes

Fair point, however some people don't care much for ranked and as such getting larger champion pools is more fun for them, and T2 suits their needs perfectly fine for a good long while. However, for serious ranked purposes you are right.

I wish I could delete or get rid of runes I purchased on accident or have decided I don't need anymore.

I accidentally bought 10 of a rune- I don't really need more than 9, and that one extra bothers me every single time.

You shouldn't be able to buy more than 9. The system prevents you from doing so.

Thunder Dreamss1 votes

It didn't used to prevent that. I have a friend that made the mistake long ago. She contacted Riot support and the support person refunded her excess runes.

I have 10 tier 3 flat armor yellows No idea how that happend

They used to let you buy more... and if memory servers you could only use runes in one page at one point. EG you wanted mana regen runes on 2 pages you had to buy 18 of them.

Taarki3 votes

I have a better idea. What if at level 1 (start) all tier 1 runes are automatically unlocked. Then at level 15, they upgrade to level 2 on their own. Then at level 25 or 30, you can spend some IP to upgrade them individually to tier 3. Then we keep the idea of spending IP to get T3 runes, while also letting new players have access to all runes and allowing players without the T3 runes to use the runes they need, but its not as effective as if they upgraded them.

imo t1 runes should just come witht the game but keep the 1 rune slot per level thing

Myozthirirn2 votes

T1 are alredy free They cost 5 ip each you can buy 30 runes with 150 ip

Zenthon Prime2 votes

...that's actually a good point.

Myozthirirn2 votes

They actualy got a price assigned so they can act as a "tutorial" on how/where to buy runes

AbodyHUN6661 votes

And T2 ones cost 35 each, with 100 cost on quints and they all give 3/4 of the stats of T3. You can get a full page of them bellow 1000 IP.

Dealth2 votes

I get that people think they are a waste of IP. But you can get a whole set of tier 2 runes for almost nothing and are still almost as efficient as tier 3 runes, making this a good choice for new players so they can get tier 3 as they go without being ridiculously underpowered.

Myozthirirn2 votes

The price of 10 T1 runes is 50 ip, the price of 20 is 100 ip, 30= 150 ip, they cost 5 ip each 20 T2 runes cost 700, 40 = 1400. T2 runes offer 75% of the stats from their T3 counterparts. source: the shop you didnt bother to check

They were a noobtrap 2 years ago, right now the noob trap would be not buying/using them.

T RexHasTinyArms1 votes

I keep forgetting they reduced the price. :P Haven't been low elo in a while and wrote this in reply to a post about t3 rune cost, which I don't mind as much as some people.

The Most Fragile2 votes

On most of my smurfs I actually use T2 runes to push for Platinum or Diamond and then I slowly upgrade to T3 runes. And to all the people saying you need a certain amount of rune pages. 2 Rune Pages will be sufficient until you get to really high elo, which is around Master Tier > 0 LP. An AP and an AD Rune Page consisting the Following Runes will do all you need until you figure out what your personal preferences are:

9x AD Marks 9x Armor Seals 9x MR Glyphs 3x AD Quints

and

9x Magic Penetration Marks 9x Armor Seals 9x MR Glyphs 3x AD Quints

AbodyHUN6661 votes

Exactly. T2 runes give you about 3/4 of the stats of T3. That's so small diffence that it gets outshined by individual skill level. It feels like everyone forgot how ridiculously cheap T2 runes are.

T RexHasTinyArms1 votes

Yeah, I forgot the t2 runes price was reduced. And I get that you can get away w/ an ad and ap page, but you have to be a decent amount better to do that and it removes champs that need a specific rune page to be worth playing. Nasus w/out some CD in runes just isn't worth playing, and unless you jg an AD champ both of those are kind of weak. (No AP and no AS means way worse early clears generally)

You can definitely get good enough to not need more rune pages than an AP and an AD page, but at the same time, I wouldn't say you SHOULD do that if you're struggling to climb. Personally I notice that a MS quints page helps me a lot in match ups that I have to kite decently, or the enemy is really dependent on hitting skill shots. Also I notice vs melee opponents top as ranged AD I can win lane much harder w/ flat ap page than scaling ap page. Yeah I could do the same thing by being better than them and trading better, but if you are about equal skill level then runes make a much bigger difference.

KevinDelMarr1 votes

They should scrap tier 1 (because they honestly make barely a difference) and allow players to sell back Tier 2's when they hit level 30 for a small value. Players should be able to experiment with runes early on, since they can be fun to mix and match when trying out specific lanes or niche jungle picks. Only having expensive runes has the divide of choosing between Champs or innate power (not that it doesn't already exist).

Early runes exist for a good reason, but they also feel too much like a cheap trick to have players grind even more for content down the road. Runes have too many strings attached to always feel like a positive investment. Imo Riot's IP and RP pricing policies are a little ridiculous atm. Tier 3 tunes are really expensive (I have several complete sets and some I don't even use anymore, like 3 MS quints worth 6300 total), combined with Rune pages is also really bad. Then you have Riot selling simple Summoner Icons for 240 RP, which really should have an IP price on them. Rune Pages especially need a change in price, let the first 2 you get be at 50% off, so players are encouraged even more to get special runes pages along with their Champs purchases.

T1 runes are actually worth it on smurf/starter accounts cause they give you stat boost and they're really cheap

T2 runes are a noobtrap though and should definitely be removed

What could be nice is if... A): T1/T2 runes leveled up every time your summoner Level goes up. That way when you get them at when you first start, they can be useful later on (especially now that you can't recycle them). after you reach lvl 30, you should be versed enough into the game to where you know to buy T3 runes only anyway. or B): There was a lvl up mechanic as you use the runes in matches. It would be faster to buy the lvl 3 runes, but low lvl runes could gain xp through matches and eventually lvl up to T3, giving the option to buy low level runes and leveling them up instead.

ahferroin71 votes

No, they need to give the option to upgrade from t1 to t2 and then t2 to t3 for a reduced cost. T1 runes are dirt cheap, and actually are marginally more cost effective than their T3 equivalents (only about 1% in most cases, but still). I know a lot of people who start new rune pages that they don't have all the runes for with T1 or T2 runes, then upgrade incrementally over the next few months.

Colgate Gator1 votes

This would have been a worthwhile thread 1 year ago, but right now T1 runes are 5 IP each and Tier 2 are 35 IP, don't be so dramatic.

T RexHasTinyArms1 votes

Yeah read my replies to some other people. I started season 2 and have been 30 since preseason 3. Completely forgot about the changes, but read someone complaining about runes and this was what my thought on it was.

Personally I'm not ocd, but it runs in my family and sometimes stuff bugs me, and having runes that I can't get rid of, but won't ever use bc I have t3 version is just painful.

junglerboy161 votes

I was always just miffed that the tier one runes I got my first day playing never worked in the rune combiner. no matter how many or which ones I used, the rune combiner simply didn't work.

Breakstar1 votes

When did you last buy T1/T2 runes? They had a huge price reduction a while back, they're not really expensive anymore. Even T2s aren't a waste of IP now.

stevedoesmc1 votes

remove tier 1 not tier 2 some runes are ridiculously priced but the tier 2 runes are slightly less good but are VERY CHEAP!

Hard Penetrator1 votes

It's straight up embarrassing to not change anything for starters in 5 yo game. No amount of excuses or arguments will change that.

I can't even find 1 good point against that. There were some bad mmo's that left f2p players in the dust for quite a while (AION) but even those changed things drastically to let newbies have some fun here and there.

Just do it.

SlaktarTasken1 votes

I'd be happy if they'd just let me throw away my tier 1 and tier 2 runes, all they are doing right now is cluttering up my rune selection page.
