I can't win a 5v5, but when our adc quits 5 minutes into the game I will have no problem winning a 4v5.

It is because when your adc left you felt determined and made safer, more accurate plays. I find people play much better and harder in 4v5 because they feel the added pressure and work well with it. It also did help that your Miss Fortune was insanely fed.

There's also the chance that the adc was going to feed the enemy. waste dragon opportunities, etc. Without that person you feel more determined to lock down objectives and focus on not dying rather than chasing down kills. Sure, you don't have that extra damage in team fights but if your team is prioritizing objectives and buying the right items it can be done.
