The Rune System is Absolutely Horrible!

I've recently been looking into expanding my selection of runes. I have two generic rune pages that work for anything (AP and AD). I spent the just over 20k IP that I had been saving for several levels when I hit level 30 to get those and at the time I didn't think too much of it. However, I want to get a set of Hybrid pen marks for a few of the champions that I play. Looking at this I realized just how retarded the Rune system is. I mean for fucks sake riot could not have set this up worse. Right now a set of hybrid pen marks is 7,380 IP. In my last 21 games I have made 2,300 IP... So if I got 115 IP (the average from those 20 games) every game I would need to play 45 more games to have the IP needed for me to get ONE set of runes. Assuming that I get 115 IP for those 45 games and each of those games is exactly 20 minutes not counting queue time that is 15 hours that I need to play. However, I won't get 115 IP every game, and those games will most likely be longer than 20 minutes. In total those 21 games came up to about 12 hours of gameplay. so I'm looking at about 25 hours of gameplay to get the IP for ONE set of runes once again assuming each game is only 20 minutes and I get 115 IP each game. So I have to spend over 25 hours to get only ONE set of runes. Good thing runes don't affect the game at all so if you can't afford them you don't have to worry about it. -_-

A free to play game has to make money somehow.

ETA: personally I agree it sucks, since all my IP goes to runes/rune pages right now (relatively new to game). But since runes are so essential, it makes people want to buy RP for pages, or for champs since they're spending IP on runes. I think it's a good trade off for not having to spend money on this game if you really don't want to imo

Its not a good trade off. Its robbery. I own every champ and rune and rune page, but I would have gladly paid 15$ a month sub for this game had that been an option. Much cheaper.

It has been so for 5 long years.

#I vote for Runes to be removed! Refund all RP.

We complain about 'unbalanced champions' yet we almost never include Runes as one of multiple serious problems in those topics.

Runes could instead be part of a major item redevelopment project. Imagine a whole new set of items where then by applying Runes as Upgrades changes that item to adapt to current unfavorable match, etc? We have that concept already with Boots, more or less. Makes sense to me. Items will keep a diversity in LoL 2.0.

Do we need to kickstarter a campaign to remove the rune system? Because I'd be all for it.

There should be one price, set for all runes, much cheaper than the current one.

i just really love getting 1- shotted with macros usiing all abilites on u with 1 button click..stupid as hell...they need to add a .2 or .1 global cooldown so u can hit 1 button and hit someone with 3+ attacks at once seriously stupid and i don;t know how people enjoy rank with this...its not skill with this..its who hits it first...riot are idiots

First off, thread isn't about that, not sure what compelled you to bring it up. Second, moat players don't do that. It is actually cheating, and if you suspect someone is having the game more or less automated for them, report it.

OT: The rune system can be a bit lame seeing as how you need them. I think it is mostly a left over from when they were still new as a company, and it helped them get on their feet so to speak. It would be a good explanation why some of the more basic runes were recently reduced in price. Riot does make good money from esports / skin sales as well, hopefully they will remove the prohibitive costs of runes in the future, but I don't think that will be any time soon.

At the end of the day, we need to remember Riot needs to make money. And we should want that, they make a pretty damn good game.

Go play Dota instead.

No runes, no grinding bullshit.

Well you are seeing it wrong. Specialized runes are more of a luxury than a commodity. Most people is supposed to live with their two generic pages and only get the specialized once they have enough time (or money) into the game, have all the champions and just want to sink some IP on buying things. The other reason would be competitive play on mind but then again spending money would be more common under that.

If runes were cheap what will players with accounts from season 1 or 2 do with their won IP? they would sit at ridiculous amount of IP just waiting on the next champion release

That's what a lot of those players do right now.

I understand your reasoning about specialized vs generic rune pages, but a specialized rune page will typically have the advantage because it works better for more specific match ups than a general rune page which you have to make work in all match ups. Someone who can use runes to cover a lot of their weaknesses in a match up (specialized) will have an advantage over those who can't cover as many weaknesses (general).

Oh you definitely have an advantage with a specialized page no doubt about it but to actually pull it off you need more pages (6300ip) not just the runes itself. RP is the way to go if you want to go competitive and IP is the way if you are a casual.
