Might have figured out how to counter Riven and Fiora on top lane

When I was , all I had to do was build full tank and when either one rushes at me (Riven with her dash and Fiora with her ult) all I used was his skill which brings up a shield that reduces damage by half and spin (and ult if needed). I take very little damage and they lose a good chunk of their hp and I can do it all over again since by the time they rush at me the cool-down for the shield is already over.

So by this logic, What other champs do everyone think would benefit a tanky build against them? I would assume they should have a good bit of sustain and ways to recover or lower damage on themselves.

I would like to think would be a nice choice given that his passive grants him a shield and he just has natural high defense. I would say as well but I have heard, and experienced from time to time, that some of his skills refusing to work. But, his shield and HP gain from slain enemies would also be a great counter I would think.

to be fair, I don't do top lane as much and Garen even less. But I'm sure there are people that don't really know as well and I just wanted to make a topic that we can share ideas how to counter them with less stress.

Riven vs Renekton is purely a skill match up based solely on how well you can read your opponent, get into their minds, and manage your cds well enough to counter-act and surpass the enemy riven/renek.

Malph is only a maybe. It depends on the aggression level of his opponent, his build, and his farm.

How does malphite work? I played him a couple times top lane but found he was really ineffective against aggressive laner waiting for his shield to come up takes forever but my actual gripe is his mana cost, you cnnt afford to trade, at all, cuz throwing a Q just CHUUUUNKS... your mana, I wish it did the same to their hp

Get a Chalice, even against an AD lane. Most people are like "Rush FH" but unless you're fighting a pure AD comp, you shouldn't, as it puts you pretty behind owing to the gold cost. FH is a good second or third pick-up, though. The basic chalice should be enough to mitigate your mana costs until you can get another item. Then either hold onto it until you're almost full build, or turn it into Athene's if you need the extra damage. Chalice does get more effective now with more mana, so keep that in mind.

I personally max Q first unless lane phase breaks early. Like you said, it doesn't do a whole lot, so you need levels in it to trade effectively. Despite being a melee champion, your harass is all Q. You don't wanna use any more mana than you have to, as even with chalice, your skills are pretty pricey at all stages.

You're probably not gonna have a whole lot of kill pressure by yourself, so don't be afraid to make TP plays or call up your jungler. But at the same time, they're not gonna be able to pressure you very much once your items are down. If the super early game is hard for you, grab a item 2041 plus pots as your starting items for the sustain. Remember that your only job is not to die early on. Kills are just a bonus for you.

Malphite is good against most AD champions, but he's great against the ones that utilize high attack speed. Keep that in mind for your ults and E's. Don't be afraid to ult for a pick, unless your team is about to do an objective.

While not a hard counter, Trundle does pretty well against both of those champs, since he is also a semi tanky sustain champ, and his q is very anti ad, only thing is he is late game, i wouldnt even attempt to duel until you finish your BotRK unless you have a huge health advantage over them

It's a very easy counter. You essentially just need to max W, build some early armor, and make the occasional trade. You have more sustain and take less damage than they do and, once you finish your Iceborn Gauntlet, you can easily kill them in an all-in fight. Just make sure to get an autoattack between each ability use and watch your mana early.

Also, the targeted stun is nice for forcing brief trades, stopping them from going in on you, and setting up ganks.

Maokai is also a pretty good pick, especially against Riven. If you time your abilities correctly, you should be able to dodge a Q, W, or cancel an autoattack with your Twisted Advance and use your Q to interrupt her autoattack. You mostly want an early Frozen Heart or Iceborn Gauntlet in this matchup, though Rod of Ages can work with armor from another source.
