NewChampion Time, Again

Welp, 4.8k and change in the ol' bank again, which means I'm in the market for another new member of my roster, and I turn to the Boards as always for info and feedback

I generally favor going Mid, and my preference tends to Mages, but I can manage any role besides Jungle.. tolerably. I really suck at jungling, and am merely serviceable as an ADC - though that said I really have enough ADCs already as it is.

Talon : Played him this week on the free list. Had fun with him, and he has single-stat scaling (I don't like juggling AP/AD hybrids if it can be helped). Seems to need less twitch reflexes than Zed (who I already own but am, bluntly, not too great with). I hear a lot of ill-will and murmurs about him tho, which makes me worry about his viability?

Swain : Played him once or twice in a free rotation, but that's been long ago. I like beefy, sturdy mages (Morgana 's my main squeeze and favorite AP midlaner outside Viktor , and she was the champion I learned to Mage with). I hear Swain's a sturdy cuss with good sustained DPS, and I won't lie, playing Viktor (well before he got his recent publicity) has taught me to appreciate the power of an uncommon pick once you get them down.

I also do not own Cassiopeia , Ezreal , Fizz , Galio , Kennen , KogMaw , LeeSin , Nocturne, Renekton , Shyvana , Skarner , Trundle , Volibear , Ziggs , or Xerath in that price-bracket; I hear a ton about LeeSin and Fizz and little of it polite or kind; I've tried both on free weeks and Fizz was okay at best; Lee is mediocre to me but that might be lack of practice - I hear he has a high skill floor, and as I mentioned I tend to avoid jungling like the plague. That and the stigma on them is.. sorta off-putting.

I like beef and good waveclear in a champion, am fine with range or melee, and as said previously I'd rate my roles, best to worst, as Mid/Support/Top/ADC/Jungle

Any advice is most welcome and highly appreciated!

Katarina Kassadin TwistedFate Swain Orianna Cassiopeia all great fun, good kits for what they do, all of them with clear and exploitable strengths and weaknesses.

Xerath

Excellent waveclear, goat poke, safety is top notch, 100 - 0 the enemy adc with the ult. Get Flash + Heal and you are good to go.

Go with Cassiopeia, she has a a very rewarding, lane bully style kit. A very high skill cap, but a strong Cass is sooooooo scary.

I know he was nerfed recently and seems to have fallen out of favor. But, I honestly have a ton of fun playing Fizz.

But it did take some time to get used to him for me. After you get the hang of him, he can be really strong - even after the nerfs (in my opinion).

I highly recommend Rumble TOP as he is a very strong champ who allows you to have loads of fun with the different ways you can play him! His huge AOE damage allows to change the outcome of any trade, engage, fight or game. Here's a guide to help you better understand his potential and how much fun he can be: http://www.lolking.net/guides/336905

When people talk about balance, I usually hear Talon being brought up as "the balanced assassin". What you might be hearing is about the kind of players who use Talon. They seem to be regarded like Fizz players who aren't like under level 30. People who play Talon, especially Dragonblade Talon, and Fizz, well... they aren't the type of people you want in your games.

Swain is a lot of fun if you build him properly. Very nicely tanky on top of a good combo that can leave enemies scrambling to get away from your demonic crow form. He also seems to be pretty versatile. Just saw someone ADC as him about a week ago and they did very well despite my jungler arguing with them that ADC Swain was a bad idea.

Lee sin has a lot to learn, six skills to keep track of, but can be taken top lane if you don't want to jungle. Fizz got some nerfs with DFG removal and some damage redistribution at that time that doesn't happen pre-6 when he gets his ult because his abilities do more damage to a target tagged with chum the waters.

For wave clear I like cass and xerath, ez works mid in double adc comps, kennon is very teamfight oriented but I haven't played him so I don't know his other strenghts, if I'm not mistaken galio can take a hit(especially if coming from a mage) and has good sustain because his shield heals him again one that I haven't played but I'm familiar with his kit, noc is safest in the jungle don't worry about him, renekton is good top beefy with some wave clear, shyvana can go top or jungle natural armor and mr make her very durable, skarner hides in the jungle, trundle I don't know enough about to help you, same with volibear, ziggs is pretty good mid with decent wave clear and harass.
