Eh, I get the gold from buffed minions kills (which I go cannon minions), it pushes really well, I give my team MR, I get AP, MR and CDR (and again, the gold from the CS it kills). This isn't a bad item if you use the active, and often can net me a decent amount of gold and has scored my team plenty of towers when the enemy doesn't realize what happened.

I won't say Lichbane isn't good on Sona, because it's great, I just (personally) see myself getting more out of other items when I react to gameflow and no just blindly build things. I do this with every support though (SS -> boots -> What does the team need?).

I agree with this. Getting ahead allows you to help your team with added damage for someone like Sona, Annie, or Zyra. For someone like braum, leona, or thresh you can get extra tanky. At the very least you can get some real mana items like Athene's or seraph's so you can maximize your use of skills for maximum utility.

One more thing, having a good KA/D is great for everyone. Sure a support will want a ton of assists more than kills however not dying is the best thing you can do for your team. After that the best thing you can do as a support is feed your carries and keep them alive long enough to do their jobs.

But that means you gave your team an IQ, most people I play with don't think at all, they just build whatever, do whatever and it ruins games, we lose and leaves a bad taste in my mouth, I want to have fun, I really do, but losing isn't fun to me because what's fun about playing 1v5, barely getting to do anything because your teammates are throwing the game. I was 7/0/6 Lucian(example btw) but now im 9/13/10 Lucian because my top and mid lane fed their opponents and I can't shut them down by myself because the jungler is getting stacks on Devourer or farming the jungle instead of helping, the top laner doesn't tp down and, nobody, I mean nobody has laid a single pink ward for an almost permanent vision boost. To me, that isn't fun at all, so I play to win, because it is fun when I win. Not to mention I also just wasted 30+ minutes of my day to lose because someone didn't care about the team.

Mage Sona has a whole lot of burst, and stronger heals than support Sona. This can be just what your team needs to keep your advantage growing.

I'm not against AP Sona.

But if you want AP Sona even fucking for trololo baits are better options as they give you AP to increase your support power and either come with other useful stats or strong unique actives/passives.
