Triforce on Vi?

Just played Vi for the first time in ranked after doing well with her in normals. Had a really off match, going 5/11/9. But I started off well, going 3/1/2, so I went for Triforce. My whole team questioned me on it, and when I pointed out it was even an "essential item" for her, they just gave me a "lolnoob" response. So, just to prove a point, I hopped on Lolking and scanned all the top guides (including one from a diamond player) for her. The closest any of them got to steering you away from Triforce was one that said to buy it when you're ahead, which I was at the time.

I then asked my friend who, despite having a reputation for doing stupid things in League, plays a lot of Vi. He told me it's bad and not to build it on her. At all. Never ever. Is it actually a "bad" item on her or did my teammates and friend just have no clue what they're talking about?

if you have a strong early game there is no reason not to go for it. It greatly increases your burst when you gank lanes and when diving on carries compared to other items. What offense item were they suggesting for her instead? Because the only thing I can think of to build instead as her offense item other than the jungle item is a hexdrinker or Black cleaver .-.

Hell you could even go full on Assassin Vi if you wanted since she has such a reliable POINT AND CLICK gap closer on top of a decent amount of burst with it item 3714 item 3078 item 3071 item 3074 item 3035 item 3158

Her burst is super good she just has no escape afterwards.

my normal build with her though is item 3723 Instant camp clear with E later and keeps her hp topped up item 3078 Burst in ganks, Phage passive, best damage item for her bar none item 3143 active after using her ulti to keep the enemy team in place, and the best armor/hp item in game item 3102 makes sure I have the opportunity to use my ult, denies a spell that could throw me off and is the best mr/hp item imo item 3155 or item 3110 or item 3190 depending on the teams need - Hexdrinker if huge single target burst exists from an AP champ and I am ahead, Frozen heart if enemy team is mostly AD or they have multiple auto attack threats, Solari if they have aoe magic damage or someone else on my team is ahead and might get focused by AP burst.

and then boots of choice ( item 3117 usually for quicker early ganks and might swap out later once teams start to group)

It gives her a lot of good stats, the sticking power is nice, and it helps her burst a lot (especially if you land a crit in your Q->AA->E->AA combo).

The problem is that you're not buying something that significantly improves her survivability and/or sustain. It's good for ganks, less so for sustained engagements or team fights.

I play vi & general rule is if you are snowballing say 3-0 go for a triforce...if you are like 0-1-3 go tank.
