People... use your trinket

I see thread after thread about how "OP" the upgraded trinket or warding is, but so many people can't even use the free wards they get. For example, I'll just do a rundown of the warding totals from my last three support matches.

Match #1 (41m 34s W):

  • Me: 51 (1.2 per min.).
  • Allies: 25 (6.3 avg.; .2 per min.).
  • Enemies: 51 (10.2 avg.; .2 per min.).

Match #2 (32m 59s W):

  • Me: 30 (.9 per min.)
  • Allies: 30 (7.5 avg.; .2 per min.).
  • Enemies: 45 (9.0 avg.; .3 per min.).

Match #3 (24m 24s L):

  • Me: 20 (.8 per min.).
  • Allies: 15 (3.8 avg.; .2 per min.).
  • Enemies: 28 (5.6 avg.; .2 per min.).

TL;DR: In all 3, I hovered around 1 ward per minute, while on average everyone else failed to even use their trinket every time it was off cooldown, warding 4-6 times less on average.

And it's not just these 3 matches. I've had matches where there's a fed Akali , Evelynn , Rengar , or Shaco, champions who rely heavily upon stealth and can be virtually countered by pinks and upgraded sweepers, yet no matter how many times I tell people to buy pink wards, I'm still the only one doing it until the match is already over and them destroying our nexus is just a formality.

So people... all I ask is that you use those trinkets Riot gives you for free. Even without upgrading it, you can place a ward every 2 minutes, meaning the bare minimum that should be expected of anyone is .5 wards per minute. If you're not meeting that quota, then make a concerted effort to fix that! Because, as has been said plenty of times before, vision is OP.

its funny how some people seem to forget they have it in the first place. Especially when playing a support early game. i put my ward down and its on cooldown. i know for a fact my laning partner hasnt placed his ward, and yet will complain when there is no vision!

I saw a friend playing a game that went on for a full 75 minutes. Only 2 people had upgraded their trinkets at the end of the game and no one had done it before the 30 minute mark.

More like upgrade your trinket.

A game I played recently, I was support. I put down around 22 wards during the game that we ended up loosing.

Guess what they told me? "Omg useless support no vision". Yeah, the Jax who told me that put only 10 wards and did not even upgrade his trinket. As for our J4 jungler, he put down a big total of 2 wards and did not upgrade his trinket either.

So yeah, people still don't understand that vision is not only the support role and that it's a TEAM effort.

But hey, better blame the support for everything.

And then we have me, building Sightstone on 90% of my jungle Amumu games.

inb4 random player who got to plat+ without ugrading/warding in less than 50 games... ( it happened before...)

About the topic, warding not only helps you, but your entire team. If the jungler is in your bush, then other lanes are safe from ganks...

The free trinkets are definitely overpowered; for example, the tier 2 stealth trinket practically allows you to permanently maintain 3 wards on the map for only 250 gold.

However, the tier 1 trinkets are a bit lackluster. Sure, they can theoretically still be quite useful, but I often find myself hesitant to use it because I simply might need it more later. If I sweep or ward a bush I don't really need to now, I might regret it later when an enemy retreat into the bush and I have to back off or face check it.

You should just urge your teammates to upgrade their trinkets. For only 250 gold, the stealth totem lets you maintain maximum vision coverage, the oracle lens allows you to completely counter stealth mechanics, and the farsight orb lets you view any spot on the map.

Yeah, i just got out of a game as Shaco and while i appreciate the all you can eat buffet sometimes, not a single person on the other team bought a pink ward. not one pink! My largest kill streak was 21, which i appreciate when using sword of the occult but honestly pinks heavily counter shaco. I was spectating a higher elo friends game as shaco, and the enemy team he was fighting had no less than 4 pinks on the map at any time, and 2 of them actively moved the locations of the pinks. Visions not only op, pinks also deny enemy vision, because you can see and destroy their wards. In other words, pink wards op rito nerf pls.

People... upgrade your trinket*

There, fixed

I consider people who not only refuse to upgrade their trinket, but fail to even use their BASIC trinket any time past the 15min mark to be the worst....that stuff drives me insane sometimes.. I even told my team to please help with wards and not to forget to upgrade their trinket. One of them was so quick to type "None of us are even lvl 9 yet"

And that same guy turned out to be the one who STILL refused to upgrade his trinket later at lvl 16. He muted me when i reminded him(and the rest) to upgrade their trinket at lvl 18.

The funny thing is, everyone is blaming the support for no vision. Jungler says "Thresh" ward Dragon. Dude, buy a fucking ward. No one realises that everyone, TOP MID JUNGLER even the ADC! Needs to buy a fucking 75 Gold Ward Seriously or buy pinks. As a support I buy Sightstone and it contains 4 wards, these wards won't last forever and with 4 wards I can't vision to the entire MAP.

So Seriously, buy wards urself too!

I just go into games knowing that I need to remind my team multiple times to both ward and upgrade trinkets. This understanding of League has improved my experience.. even if it is babysitting.

100x this.

The trinket upgrade is just so god damn good. I can drop a ward while chasing ppl into bushes to make sure i'm not getting baited. I can ward the enemy jungle and splitpush like a monster without dying. I can ward flanks and make picks on people who strayed a little too far from their team.

And best of all, I can do it all without ever having to buy a ward from the base.

This shit is amazing.

I mostly play arams...so I'm learning to lane on a smurf (nicely though)..played a match last night as support Annie. I was duo bot with a friend...I had bought a pink and upgraded my totem..kindly asked that everyone buy a pink and upgrade their totems...mid Lux harassed me saying it's the supports responsibility to ward and only the support should "waste" gold on totem upgrade. I wish people had a better attitude...the game lasted a long time and we won. 250 g with each person having 2 wards at least on the map at all times is helpful to EVERYONE. Hopefully to avoid some unnecessary deaths and your team can make better plays with better vision. It's all about strategy guys.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves. There's no cost ... well, 250g at level 9, which is chump change. Not using trinkets is laziness. I generally hit 40+ wards as a sup in a normal length game. I'll hit 20+ as a mid in many cases too.

I report supports who get sighstone and don't change their trinket from yellow too. Someone told me to do it once. It was good advice. It's been automatic to get sighstone on a sup and immediately switch to sweeper since.

There is league wisdom here.

Trinkets are a myth.

And Vision is the support's job.

  • Enemies: 45 (9.0 avg.; .3 per min.).

Match #3 (24m 24s L):

The main problem is the lvl 9 is not a memorable lvl (it's a normal lvl) It's not like lvl 11 where it's like ohh this is where I upgrade my ult and trinket.

Seriously, here's a rundown of the top warders from my last 10 matches.

Match 1 (41m 58s): 13 (.3 WPM). Match 2 (36m 4s): 23 (.6 WPM). Match 3 (43m 21s): 19 (.4 WPM). Match 4 (36m 3s): 15 (.4 WPM). Match 5 (23m 27s): 13 (.6 WPM). Match 6 (33m 25s): 12 (.4 WPM). Match 7 (48m 7s): 24 (.5 WPM). Match 8 (33m 14s): 13 (.4 WPM). Match 9 (39m 12s): 25 (.6 WPM). Match 10 (46m 39s): 38 (.8 WPM).

As I've mentioned before, .5 WPM is attainable with just the free trinket... and that mark was only reached by someone aside from myself in 5/10 matches. This is pitiful.
