Play top with TP, harass the hell out of your opponent with E, tp gank your bot lane when possible, profit.

Seriously, master Swain and have a good understanding of other roles to some extent and you will escape.

Don't overextend
Focus on csing (Your passive makes it so you will never have to leave lane)
Don't build tear, rush Rod Of Ages then Hourglass and then whatever you prefer.
DON'T DIE.

I feel like you could replace swain in that post with pretty much any top lane champion and the same group of tips would mostly apply. To get out of silver, learn to play (a champion) at a gold level or higher, do so, profit.

Top/jungle champions tend to have more team carry potential as they're often tanky enough to not be instagibbed if someone else on your team feeds, but really if you play at gold+ in any role you'll get there eventually.
