How do you counter split pushing?

I've been seeing a lot of it lately and I don't know what to do with my team.

Options include:

  1. Sending at least two champions to kill the splitpusher. You're very likely to kill the splitpusher if he/she doesn't leave quickly/notice you coming. However, this could leave your team outnumbered.
  2. Sending one champion to kill the splitpusher. Less likely to succeed than two champions (the one you send could get outdueled or be unable to prevent the splitpusher from advancing), but your team won't be outnumbered elsewhere.Tryndamere
  3. Sending one champion to simply stop the splitpusher from advancing. Any champion with waveclear works for this purpose, but you get the same cons as sending one champion to kill the splitter.Xerath
  4. Forcing a fight as a team of five against a team of four. You're likely to win unless your team really sucks at teamfighting or isn't doing as well as the other team, or if your team doesn't consider how an enemy turret can easily make up for a 1-champion deficit.item 3056
  5. Base-racing. Try to out-splitpush (or just out-push) the splitpusher. Siege teams are great at thisZiggs , as are teams with multiple champions that can splitpush. Jax
  6. Forcing a more important objective than the towers that splitpusher is taking (Baron/Dragon). It really helps to have a champion that can easily solo Dragon (other than your ADC).
  7. Using a global/long ranged ability to discourage/stop/slow down the splitpusher. (Ex: Ziggs's ultimate.)

Think about what you are losing for what you are gaining. If you are about to lose a second teir tower for an inhib turret, just take the turret and forget about the one you are losing. same for the other way around, might be better to defend than push a tier two at the cost of an inhib turret. I find that one way to beat split pushers is to counter with good objective taking of your own, and force that player to play defensively, or lose objectives.
