When Should You Start Playing Ranked (How Not To Get Placed in Bronze)?

# of Normal Games

This is not the best of the indicators, but this is one of the better ones that you can use to decide whether or not you should start playing ranked when you reach level 30.

100-300 games played: I would say play more norms.

300+ games played: you are probably ready.

Tip: If you want to get placed in a rank higher than bronze, I highly consider waiting until you are very confident.

Mechanics

1v1 mechanics, team fight positioning, and etc.. can get you out of bronze easily or get placed in a rank higher than bronze.

So if you win 1v1's often during the laning phase of the game, you should consider playing ranked.

'Norms are Too Easy'

If you feel that you dominate every normal game, and you want more competitive play, I recommend ranked.

When You Stop Being a Little Baby

Ragers, toxic players, etc.. ruin games period. If you are one of those, please please please just. don't. play. ranked. Or even norms.

If you are going to cry about every single thing, just go play bots or create a custom and play by yourself.

In Closing

You can obviously play as soon as you reach 30, but following my 'guidelines' will help you rank up faster and get placed in a higher rank than most ppl.

Feel free to add more if you wish, and as always Have Fun and Good Luck :D

  1. once you reach lvl 30, play ranked only

  2. dont bother about your rank. no matter if you are bronze or silver or what, you will learn more from a ranked match than from a normal

Should probably also bring up something about being proficient in enough champions for each role (or at least one in each role) and to make sure you won't have any uncontrollable DC problems (like if you have bad internet, probably would be for the best that you don't play). I know these are the reasons I'm not playing ranked.

When You Stop Being a Little Baby

You should probably think of something more constructive to say in this section. Because you know some people arn't that way to ruin the game, but because this kind of game is frustrating, and it isn't easy to stay calm when games feel like a waste because they are stomps by the fault of the team (including those who rage)

After reaching lvl 30 I played 10 or so games, noticed how much I was matched up with golds and even some platinums. Played my provisionals, went 3-7 due to bad internet connection and ended up in silver V.

Really though, just jump into ranked and don't care for where you end up. Bronze V is only hell or heaven depending on your mindset. As long as you try to get better, you will rise through the ranks anyways. If you feel you're ranked too low, just play carry champions and learn to carry the game there.

Being able to play every (or almost every) role and having some champions to choose from is important though if you want to start ranked. And having two runepages is good as well.

Do you have 2 full rune pages of tier 3 runes? If yes then you are probably ok to play ranked

what about those players that end up in high gold after playing their placement games despite not winning a majority of them? they must of played 1000+ games before playing ranked, but since their MMR is high they automatically get placed in higher division is this true?

upgrade your trinkets at level 9, make sure you almost always have a vision ward on the map, and know how to play at least two roles. If one of them is support you will always get your wish, or better role.

You have an MMR in normals just like ranked. When you start getting 2 gold players on your team regularly, you are probably ready.

It took me quite a few months to learn how to stop being Toxic, and ignore toxic teammates. It's just something you have to learn, that in order to climb you have to keep the peace. If you feel like you can't go without talking back to your teammate, mute them.

Just ask a plat-diamond player to rate you tbh. Usually people of high elo know where people would be, even people who are higher than themselves.

What's so bad about being placed in Bronze? I got placed Bronze 4 when I started my ranked career and it was exactly where I deserved to be. Fast forward a couple years of slow improvement and now I'm Plat 3. Bronze is not a bad thing.

Regarding champions and roles, I would maybe consider the rule of threes: Have a decent understanding of at least three different champions in three different roles.

I recommend in placements not to play one role and one champion repeatedly. You get sloppy after a while.

Llanite6/11/2015, 4:23:32 PM1 votes

Play it when you're ready. Even if you end up in bronze 5, you'll climb up as you improve.

I would say you're good to play ranked when you have a good grip on what most champion abilities do (how much damage, how large of distance, what additional effects.) and how long most ability cooldowns are. You need to be able to glance at your minimap often to watch wards for where ganks are coming from, and you need to know when the enemy can finish you off with an ability combo+ignite. If you can't watch the minimap, you're going to never see the jungle ganks coming. If you can't measure your opponent's damage, you're going to feed him.
