New player needs advice regarding camera lock

Hey,

I'm new to League of Legends, and I was looking for some advice regarding to the camera.

So, obviously there are two camera modes, locked and unlocked. Locked seemed really easier to be honest, and I use it all the time.

But whenever I watch the "pros" play, they always have it unlocked. But whenever I have it unlocked I feel like moving my mouse to move the camera is, well, distracting.

Any advice here? Thanks in advance.

I recommend unlocked screen because it lets you freely scout different parts of the map for more information that your minimap does not tell you. If you wish to reset the camera to your champion or stimulate a temporary "locked screen" , you can press the "spacebar" key (you can change the hotkey for this in the options menu).

I personally prefer locked screen, I kind of cycle between the two though. I dont really feel the need to have my screen unlocked when im just farming jungle creeps or csing in my lane. However if im ganking or am playing a champ that has ranged abilities that have longer range then the locked screen shows like jayce or nidalee I just unlock it. You should just do whatever you feel comfortable with, just because the pros play with a unlocked screen doesn't mean that's the best option for you

There is some amount of new players who find it easier, so it's not unexpected that you do. It's one less thing that you need to pay attention to when LoL has tons of things to pay attention to. The reason why unlocked is better is because it gives you more vision of what's happening. When the camera is centered on your champion, it most always does not give you vision of what you need to see, like lane entrances, and less vision of what you are looking at. Most of the time, a large amount of your onscreen field of view is "wasted" on the camera showing what is behind you when there is no need to see there. I, on occasion, switch to locked just to see the difference and I can't stand it because of how little I can see. It further hinders aiming with champions who are long-ranged, especially as there are champions whose abilities are even longer ranged than what the locked screen will show like Xerath, Ezreal, Twisted Fate, and Ziggs

Here is a video that demonstrates what I am talking about visually. LOL Keyboard Mechanics Explained Camera part starts at 5:22, but you might want to watch the whole thing if you don't know about self-cast and such.

I really prefer to have my screen unlocked. It helps me keep a better view of my enemies and surroundings, since I don't actually really need to look at myself as long as I vaguely know where I am. I also like to be able to shift my view and collect information faster than my champion moves. If I ever need to switch back to the locked position, I can just hit the space bar and re-center the screen.

I don't want to sound too harsh, but unlocked camera and smartcasting are mandatory at a competitive level. People pretending otherwise are just casuals and/or people who can't be bothered with mechanics. And don't give me examples with (ex)Pros who use both, they play 12-15hrs of LoL every day, it's not comparable.

I honestly like playing with the locked camera with one finger on my toggle hotkey so I can make it unlocked for a moment before locking it again. Mainly because I like having the camera on my character, and I only really use the unlocked camera to quickly check how other lanes are going. Otherwise, I'm pretty capable of not getting killed with my locked screen and an eye on the minimap. Minimap op.

I learned with camera unlocked so i never had this problem honestly, you just have to practice unlocked and it will become like second nature sooner or later

do what i do, bind camera lock to y, and switch the lock on and off as you want.

Locked with offset is by far the best choice and everyone else plays unlocked because they are sheep who know no better. Truth...
