Also ignore the trolls and naysayers on the boards.

I mean, you can really play anyone you want if you put the time and effort into it. Mechanically, Zed is far more difficult than Darius, however I also find him infinitely more fun to play than Darius. If you're looking for easy wins, Darius is pretty good for that so long as you can roll your face across the keyboard. ( I mean this jokingly ) but it's really just up to how you want to play.

I vote Zed, since learning his mechanics will prepare you down the road for more champions that you want to play, whereas Darius offers fewer learning opportunities.

If I was to compare the two based on skill required, Darius would be the easier to play. While positioning is still important Darius is better at just walking up to a target and pissing them off. Zed requires good positioning to maximize damage, and scales hard with player skill. (Not saying Darius doesn't just not to the same degree).

Darius is a bruiser whilst Zed an assassin.

It comes down to, how much effort are you willing to put into a new champion? Do you prefer being a bruiser/fighter or a glass-cannon assassin? Both champions can carry hard in the hands of a skilled player and both champions can make big plays.

Darius is top lane whilst Zed is mid (generally). So take into account what your most comfortable laning against.

The choice is yours.

You play lol for a month and you wanna buy zed?? go with darius, you can't play zed. (he's not that hard, like zed mains say, but with 1 month you can't even play master yi probably)

I have played against darius as zed and zed pretty much beats darius early on if u play right but once u get hooked by darius, RIP

Darius and Garen are two completely different chamions. I pick Darius when I want to win my lane fast and roam. I pick Garen more for split-pushing top lane. Garen is a safer pick imo since he has passive sustain, is resourceless, and has a defensive steroid and an escape (sort of). Also Garen fits into a pick comp whereas Darius arguably fits better into a siege or all-in aoe comp.

Assuming you have enough IP for at least two full pages of runes (one AD and one AP) then i would recommend Darius first. Be warned that darius is considered OP right now and may be subject to nerfs in the not too far future. Zed on the other hand is often touted as an assassin, but his assassination pattern is extreemly counterable. He is better served as a split pusher, which takes a good amount of map awareness and warding that is harder for most people to understand than the mechanical skill required to execute the fast and accurate combos that people say are hard to perform.

Others i would recommend trying out are

top: sion, lulu, pantheon, garen

jungle: amumu, pantheon, warwick

mid: twisted fate, lulu, katarina

adc: caitlyn, ashe, corki

support: alistar, lulu, nami

That way you have a decent amount of role diversity and you can learn a lot from each of these about various playstyles. You almost certainly wont enjoy all of these champions but it will help you determine which playstyles you do enjoy.

But save up for full tier3 rune pages first if you haven't yet.
