So how do you build Azir?

Recently picked him up, and I'm never really sure how to build him. There's tankier ROA build, or the build the emphasizes on early CD reduction/man regen, should you buy Nashor's Tooth, as all of the stats would appear to benefit him? In general he seems decently confusing with the kind of builds you can go with him, and I'm sure some of it comes down to how you as an individual play. Any help that might clear up what's good and bad on him would help a ton, thanks.

You have 3 main options:

  1. 9 Scaling CDR glyphs. This gives you 15% CDR at level 18. Item build: item 3165 item 3089 item 3135 item 3157 item 3116 item 3020

  2. No CDR runes. item 3165 item 3089 item 3135 item 3157 item 3116item 3158

  3. No CDR runes, attack speed mastery instead of CDR mastery item 3165 item 3165 item 3089item 3135item 3116item 3020

I recommend against Nashors tooth. It has low AP and the attack speed isn't really efficient unless you're getting 4+ autos off on every soldier between Qs. Most enemies move outside of your solider range after 1-3 autos so it's not as efficient as an item with more AP.

You can and should use Athenes instead of Morello if you are against a strong AP assassin like Leblanc or Fizz.

You can swap the Rylais out for a different item if you want. Banshees or Zhonyas for example. Rylais is nice because Azir has trouble chasing people down and keeping them inside the auto range of his soliders, so the slow on hit is very good for him.

I personally prefer taking CDR runes because sorc shoes give a much bigger powerspike in the early game than ionians, and double morello feels weaker the longer the game goes.

I have to admit I was against the use of Nashor but recently I saw that built as second item it gives quite the boost in attack speed and CDR combined.

Azir should ideally be played as a battlemage. It seems so appealing to stay by the backlines and only use your soldiers to fight, but your E isn't just an escape. You can do a lot if you're in the thick of things soaking a bit of damage for your team.
