I really like MF but..

Would it be too much to change around her passive a little bit? She's one of the very few adc's with no real escape, and very little cc, at least until much later when it scales up somewhat. I don't want her to be overbearing, but would making it so she doesn't get her passive popped when anything attacks her, and changing it to maybe only champions that can stop it, be too much? Maybe I'm wrong and this would make her too strong, but I'd like to hear what you guys have to say about it.

They changed Garen's passive so that only champions and Dragon/Baron pop it after level 11 and then it gets a buff on 16. I don't see why MF can't have a similar thing done. Her passive is the most unique thing about her right now.

Looking at LOL wikia, Garen's passive buff at level 11 is geared towards jungling since minion (not monster) damage never affects it. It doesn't mention anything about a buff at level 16.

I've recently played several games as MF, and she is still a strong lane bully. A few well placed Qs will either zone or force your opponent to back early, if they don't have a healing support. And E gives her a decent amount of safety if she's gone a bit too deep, but it depends how mobile her opponents are.

I think she is really close to being competitive and just needs a little scaling tweak to improve her late game. Then she'll be a high damage ADC, that lacks mobility to offset that strength. Compositions that protect her should do well. This is the same pattern Kog has.

It heals .4% on level 1, .8% on level 11 and a huge 2% on level 16. The time required for it to turn back on goes down from 9 to 6 down all the way to 4 seconds as well.

Most of Miss Fortune's kit is done by other ADCs very similarly, but I'll compare directly to Graves. Each have one AOE semi-spammable basic for general purpose, except Graves can hit a whole team with his, not just two people and it is easier to use. Each have an attack speed steroid, except Graves has a very nice dash attached to his. Each have an AOE slow, except Graves actually does damage with his and makes it so they can't see anything as well. Each have an AOE ultimate, except you can't just walk out of Graves ult halfway through and it has very nice AD scaling. So... out of all the things Graves has what does Miss Fortune have over him? The stacking DPS buff which is done better by other champs. Grievous Wounds which is niche and also done by Tristana. And HER PASSIVE. Graves gets 10 in-combat MR and armor, MF gets to walk to lane faster. Oh wait that's hardly a niche.

I basically only play Miss Fortune into skill shot comps and with Trinity Force+Lucidity Boots+Ghostblade to abuse her Q procs and DPS stacking W buff. But that is quite a small niche and tunneled build plus most players aren't going to recognize that is one of the only situations she isn't outclassed by Graves(and just barely).

These are VERY valid points. I also think marksmen is the role with the least diversity because there's so little benefit to not simply picking the strongest one, unless someone's extra fun or unique. I'm sick of seeing Vayne or Ez in every game on both sides. Making MF more unique without being so scattered or outclassed like she currently is would be a very welcome addition.

btw did anyone noticed that if her Q bounce in from a minion to a champion she gets atacked by minions? for me that's one of the reasons that i agree with youngjake93 on why miss fortune dosesn't have that too... i man she dosen't have any escape and she stands still to ulti still one minion can ruin her plays.

It's dangerous to make MF not get slowed by minions because she has really oppressive laning potential.

If you're going to buff MF, and she probably could use it, it needs to be something for her midgame or lategame.

Garen's passive is changed at 11, at that point for a duo laner the laning phase is pretty much over anyway. So, what the OP suggested could actually be for the mid/late game.

I agree with the idea that you could buff her passive at later levels and it probably wouldn't be broken, but I didn't see that anywhere in the OP.

Ah one of those guys. Riot uses word toxic, community starts spamming the word "toxic" in every complaint. Riot uses the word "oppressive" suddenly every champion people hate is "oppressive".

Also yeah MF is supposed to be a lane bully, it's all she has going for her, "oppressive" what a joke. The irony is that even Riot misused the word by calling sona "oppressive" to exaggerate something they knew was outlandish.

He presented fair point because move speed is probably one of the most important stats in whole game to the point that loosing 5 base ms IS serious matter for every adc. Just because you don't think its much doesn't mean its weak. Also he wrote that MF deserves buffs but different ones. Your post was pretty dumb and meaningless against his.

Personally I would want Q mechanic to be same as it was pre rework. I can't find out for shit what it will hit after bounce.

i actually like the movespeed in heels for miss fortune because she's probably used to the shoes and has a lot of practice running in heels. she lampshades it with one of her lines and the way the ms boost easily falls off with damage makes it feel like, yeah, she can move in heels, but she needs to get the right rhythm going and if something throws her off balance she slows way down.

I suggested in another thread recently that MF's passive could slowly (as she levels) phase out what types of enemies could affect her passive, first changing a group (minions, small monsters, large monsters, etc) to not put it on CD (ie. reset it to its lowest value and immediately start building back up again) and later to not affect her MS bonus at all.

MrBuffington3 votes

70 MS is a lot to have in lane, especially early; having it removed when minions aggro on her helps prevent her from being over aggressive in lane and just destroying everyone. I remember a Red commented on this one time, can't seem to find the comment. I don't see why this can't be changed for the mid-late game though so only champions or large monsters remove the passive, or something like that.

RiotRiot ShadowStorm17 votes

That might've been me (commenting only as a MF player - I'm not a designer!). I do think that if minions didn't drop her passive, she would be much stronger in lane. I don't actually think it would impact her mid or late game as much though.

Movement speed is just a really powerful stat, even if it doesn't feel like it. MF almost always has that bonus when roaming, which lets her quickly set up around objectives (or better, push a wave then run to an objective and make it in time to fight). Having it gated in fights is important to help to keep her overall power in check.

It also gives laning an interesting tension. The speed helps with dodging enemy skillshots, and let's you set up Q how you want. But if you play too aggressive with your Q bounces, the minions will aggro you, slow you down, and open you up to counterattack. Without that risk, you would just get free Q harass all day in a lot of matchups.

Personally, I think that would be a sizable buff and would require taking some power away elsewhere. Either lowering her passive MS, or shaving off Q damage or something... I don't think I'd want to make those trades.

Sightless6616 votes

If this is a concern in about lane harass, then why isn't it given the Garen treatment and upgraded at level 11 or so to not be disabled by minions? Stop the annoying "I took one minion auto and now I'm slow" thing. Let her require an actual enemy hitting her to slow her down later game, without giving her the massive laning power boost. Seems like a good solution to that problem.

SunGold2 votes

i think it could preety interesting if her** w** would give her movemet speed boost. Or (not my idea) if her passive declined her movemt speed over time just like it increases over time.

I kinda hate it when i'm on the teamfight i try to kill the enemy adc and lulu slows me down while draven speeds him self up to safety.and i can't catch up to anyone her range is not that hight but not that small still not enough dmag i could ulti if lulu dint had any cc like her ulti. she had. or other example cho gath silences me q and eats me and i'm dead. but yes in lane miss fortune is not that bad, you have to wach your position and your river wards cuz your passive is like the only thing that will save you if you can see an enemy trying to gank your lane.

RiotRiot ShadowStorm5 votes

A few people have suggested making her Passive not drop off due to minions after level 11. And I think you're right that waiting until then would solve the lane harass concern. I do question how useful that change would be overall though; I can't think of many situations where this change would actually come into effect.

But maybe I'm missing something? What situations arise post-11 where you would expect this change to make a difference?

Sightless6610 votes

You go into a lane to depush. You have very few minions and they have a huge stack, so you take a hit or two, particularly if you're trying to push as fast as possible. Now you're slow. It becomes harder to respond to any enemy actions nearby or to get back to your team. This happens quite a lot, particularly since roaming across the map to depush is the main function of MF passive at that point of the game.

I've had situations where we're just clearing minions in a pre-teamfight situation and one hits me, so I lose my movement speed and become easier to initiate onto. I know that when I used to play Kha'zix, I absolutely noticed that happening to my opponents and I took advantage of it.

If monsters are also added in, then it comes into play whenever you're farming jungle, giving you more ability to react to anything happening (a fight you want to roam on, someone coming to kill you, etc).

None of these situations are massive, but they do exist, and they are frustrating. There isn't a huge number of scenarios where this change would be majorly beneficial, but then again, I can't think of any situations where it would be harmful. There is some potential gain from making her passive not drop from minions post-11, and I can't think of any downsides. An opportunity to correct a frustration for one player while also doing nothing to lessen the experience for any other players seems like a good thing to me.

RiotRiot ShadowStorm4 votes

Sounds like the big downside is that when you try to take advantage of MF-specific game functions (such as roaming to sidelanes to push/depush), having minions drop it actually poses a risk. That's fair, and could be an interesting way of putting more power into her gameplay pattern, rather than just giving her raw numbers power. Could also remove jungle monsters from dropping it, like you mentioned, to amp it up even further.

To play the other side, the "harmful" part I can find would be giving her stronger push/siege power, which isn't meant to be her defining strength. It may not be too much extra power, but I really don't know - again, not on design or balance.

Assuming that's a "safe" way to add power, the question then becomes how much power it actually adds, and how much she needs. I would argue that power-wise, she's actually fine, so something like this would make sense only as a small Quality of Life buff. Not sure if it would qualify for that though (maybe?).

what's her defining strength? because she doesn't feel as strong in lane as she used to and her ult's damage is really lackluster since it does almost nothing unless the enemy has full stacks and you can't really get resistance penetration for the right part of it..

The way her Q bounces got changed up, and her power was shifted a bit, which might be why she feels weaker. Took me a bit to get the hang of the changes. There's more need to manage how you stack Impure Shots, rather than just relying on Auto+Q for all your damage. Though, that's still pretty strong on it's own.

She has strong laning power, and can duel surprisingly well for an ADC in my experience, thanks to Grievous Wounds, ramping W damage, and an auto-attack reset (effectively) on short CD. Not fantastic, but I'd say above average for the role.

Another thing she brings over other ADCs is strategic mobility (rather than tactical mobility like Lucian/Vayne). She can go lane to lane pretty quickly, thanks to her passive. It just costs her team less to send her to reset a side lane before a fight, because she can get back in time for the fight itself.

But her defining strength is AoE teamfighting. Typically you see an AoE wombo combo team comp to take advantage of it (hi Amumu!), but it's really just about fighting in a confined area. Jungle corridors work well, as does Dragon/Baron pit. She's like Rumble in that regard.

That lets her get Q bounces off the frontline, apply Grievous Wounds, and lay down a fully channeled ult to soften them. Works particularly well with Black Cleaver to shred the enemy team's armor, making cleanup a breeze for MF and your .

You're likely in a higher level of play than I am, and you probably play MF far more than I do, therefore chances are your opinion are more right than mine is due to merits alone.

However, I have a differing opinion.

But her defining strength is AoE teamfighting.

It's not. And if it's supposed to be, I feel it could be a little more..."versatile". What I mean by this is that your defining her niche as "the AoE teamfight ADC" isn't all that great when the sole source of that niche comes from an incredibly difficult to pull off one-off R.

A powerful and devastating R if pulled off perfectly...but I disagree with it defining her in it's current state. Hell from my experience, often times it's better to not think too hard about it and just blow her load early so that I actually used her R rather than dying without using it.

Let's ignore the existence of Ashe whom I personally consider archaic and dated in design (just LOOK at her Passive!)

ADC's who have something that defines them often possess them when they need it, or have the capability express them often in a fight. KogMaw 's "magical artillery"-identity comes in the form of her basic ability W and spammy R. Corki's "mixed damage assault"-assault comes from his entire kit and Passive. Vayne's "destroy everything in existence"-identity comes in the form of her Silverbolts. Lucian's "uncatchable prick"-identity comes from his free spammy dash...although I'd argue he's recently been dethroned by Runaan's Kalista.

Maybe if it's damage was heavily nerfed but compensated with a much lower cooldown to make it spammier. Then I can see MF as this "saturated damage across all enemies"-type ADC that'd really set her apart from other ADC's.

Again...I'm sorely aware that I have far less merits than someone who played her so much more successfully and often as me. However this is simply the sum of my experience playing all varieties of ADC. It's hard to see her as having any niche atm. What defines her for me atm is how she is the only one who lacks any of the 3 basic tools other ADC's have to stay alive. If you say her niche is AoE Teamfights, I can't argue with someone so much better at her than I am. But I will say that if this truly was the case, then it's not well pulled off due to that identity hanging solely off an overly conditional and one-off R. For me, what defines MF are her weaknesses, not her strengths.

Let me expand on the "AoE Teamfight"-identity a little more.

Do you know who I personally consider a better contender to fill that niche than Miss Fortune? Jinx.

Why? Because unlike MF, Jinx is capable of unleashing a CONSTANT and RELIABLE form of AoE damage in the form of her Q. In fact, thanks to her Q, Jinx's AoE basically became her basic form of attack! (60%-70% of the time) And this is all despite the fact that "AoE Teamfighter" isn't supposed to strictly be her niche. But she still feels closer to it than MF.

A little Peepo1 votes

I'd like to think of ez being that aoe burst adc than MF but I agree with you. You will rarely see MF land a full on ultimate, simply because most smart players don't huddle up (if they did, you would see maphite and amumu being spammed every game)

Truth of the matter is that players have gotten smarter. MF is that adc who's core identity is "noob stomper" and even then her ult feels more punishing than rewarding since I'd rather AA with IE and hit like a truck rather than sit there channeling an ultimate that gives out mediocre damage if you build straight up adc rather than BC, BT and a lot of ad rather than AS or crit, that's not gonna happen. BC MF works but let's be honest... you could probably build something else that would benefit you more, she doesn't have that survivability trist does to build straight up ham.

This might be a lot to ask but what do you consider to be the defining strength of all ADCs? At least for new players this isn't always obvious, and maybe a way to highlight that during champion profiles would help out.

Got to disagree here. If you give a squishy champ one (albeit powerful) self-cc ability who's only function is damage, and then call that her defining moment and strength, you HAVE some basic thematic kit issues to deal with. Instead of chucking out everything people suggest as "not her unique strength" you need to broaden your horizons with regard to this champ.

varus is arguably better at this when his ult deals all its damage upfront combined with a solid cc, and has two strong aoe damage abilities without ult-tier cooldowns. SO MUCH has to go right for miss fortune's only really good aoe ability that it's really disappointing to see that its damage is only a little bit better than someone who isn't even picked for that niche.

having minions drop it actually poses a risk.

And it's ungodly frustrating. That deserves mention too.

It may not be meant to be her defining strength, but it's also not something she's designed to be mediocre at (in fact, roaming to push is arguably the main function of her passive), so it's not really warping her role to give it to her with a slight bit more reliability. Considering that it would it would allow her passive to be a more significant part of her gameplay without just making it stronger, I think that makes it worth it from a design standpoint.

From a power standpoint I don't think it would actually add that much power, given that all situations can be mitigated to some degree (except farming jungle minions). I think it would certainly add much less power than it would take to put her over the top.

A good example would be a strong push after fighting in your territory towards their low health tower or unguarded inhib but you have waves of either regular and maybe supers against you. The waves will slow you down should you take a hit, but you need to be there while the enemy team is down

RiotRiot ShadowStorm3 votes

A few people brought up situations like this, and it's an interesting one.

Without her passive, she still has a fairly standard ADC movespeed (base 325) - the same as Ashe, Caitlyn, Corki, Ezreal, Jinx, Kalista, Kog'Maw, and Tristana. So while she does get slower relative to normal for her, she's no worse in this case than any of those champs. Her worst-case scenario is in line with others, and she only gets better from there if her passive doesn't actually drop. She also retreats better when it does come back up.

There's also chasing after low health targets after a fight, which is subject to the same caveats as above. But I also think it's ok if she's not great at that, because MF isn't supposed to be a pursuit-heavy ADC. The ones that are meant to do that (Lucian, Vayne come to mind) have higher base MS and skills designed to help in that exact situation.

So while she does get slower relative to normal for her, she's no worse in this case than any of those champs.

Well, except that almost all of those champions either have escapes or better CC. Her worst-case may be the same as any of them, but that's assuming that all of their abilities are down. If you assume that everyone actually holds onto their abilities, a lot of those champions have a much better prognosis for retreat and survival than MF does. If I'm pushing an enemy minion wave or tower and I need to retreat, I'd much rather be an ADC with a dash. Hell, I'd even rather be Kog. At least his slow has a huge AoE, so it might actually stop someone from closing in. MF's passive won't do that if a minion decides that he dislikes me.

Given how her E is not exactly a standout CC ability, this is really her only decent escape mechanism, and it can be shut down extremely easily through no actions of her enemies. Making an escape from oncoming enemies before they get to you should be an interesting option her passive provides, but it often doesn't because you have few options for really controlling when it goes down. It's much more annoying, frustrating, and oftentimes useless than it needs to be.

As for things like chasing, that's something that enemy champions can often mitigate themselves with ranged abilities or attacks. This isn't going to be the change that makes her into a great chaser. It's still pretty easy to mitigate.

5G8Nri0B541 votes

So while rambling before in another post I made below, a thought just came up.

Do you think her Passive is also the cause of her weakness too? I mean, in theory it's great to have that free MS up whenever she needs to roam...in theory. However, the way I look at it is quite different. I believe the possession of this Passive dis-allows her from having any adequate escape/self-peel as a consequence.

The way I see it, OTHER CHAMPIONS gets their mobility/MS buff when they need it. But Miss Fortune loses it when she needs it MOST.

Let me elaborate on this.

What are MF's weaknesses? She has low range, okay, then she can rely on self-peel, oh but she doesn't have any of that either, alright, then rely on escape mechanisms to help her escape...oh, wait no, her MS buff disappears when she REALLY needs it.

Compare this to Draven. Unlike MF, Draven's speed boost costs mana and isn't permanent. Sounds worst in theory right? Wrong, because he can choose to have it when he NEEDS it. Want to pursue? Press W. Oh shit, are you hurt and need to escape? Press W. Doesn't matter if your enemies are still shooting you, that MS boost is always going to be there for you.

I feel that, whoever designed MF took into consideration the sheer mobility her Passive provides for her, and fear that giving her any form of self-peel or escape may make her over-bearing.

Unfortunately, I also feel that she was designed in an era where everyone and their grandmother having a knock-up and multiple jumps/dashes was not the freakin norm.

If the concern is MF being a lane bully then take a look at caitlyn, why does caitlyn have 650 range and an escape with that range? Or lucian who can dash continuously or even kalista (best example) most adc have counter play and tbh MF passive is rarely even active (it's like she has no passive at all and even nerfing the MS would still be better than having a passive non existent like 90% of the time, give or take) that taken into consideration MF doesn't exactly have the burst she used to have with the range it has, I doubt most adc would sit there and smile and ask for more without retaliating, especially with the oppressive support picks sona (LOL jk) thresh, leona, blitz.

Would be nice to give her a real passive in lane rather than just a passive that is used for getting back to lane quicker. At that rate you may as well change her passive to: MF runs quicker than most champions back to lane... and rename her passive to, "me money!!" With mr.krabs face on it xD

This. Janna, Vayne, and MF are ridiculously hard to hit with skillshots in lane. These champions essentially start the game with T2 boots.

And then there's Kalista...

making it work like Garen's passive (cannot get popped by minions, and upgrades to not count monsters after 11) could be a good thing.

I really love MF BECAUSE of her lack of mobility. I believe adc's are supposed to be attack damage glass cannons who dish out as much damage as possible and have to position correctly in order to not get focused. Adding mobility to their kit just gives so much freedom to an already oppressive class of champion that they have become the driving force of the game. It hurts the games overall balance to have so many adc's able to completely juke out the entire enemy team and i think Miss Fortune is a great adc because of the damage she provides, rather than the utility.

I've said this before but I'll say it again. I think they should make her passive lose movespeed per hit instead of it all going away as soon as a caster minion nicks you with a tiny pellet ( https://38.media.tumblr.com/b0d2f643cb8f835a6db5fde71923d84e/tumblr_nfm8z58v1y1sdk5d7o1_500.gif Caster minions OP, riot please nerf).

So one hit will take off 25, then 25 more with the next hit, and then the last 20 movespeed at the end (Or they could make the max movespeed 75 so we can get consistency)

I would love to see MF get some love. I think her passive is good but it goes away too easy and after it ends it is hard to stack back up in a fight. I mean I would love y'all if you guys could add a little more to it like "When Miss Fortune does damage with an ability Miss Fortune games x stacks on her passive based on level." That way if you q an enemy champ you get like 5 stacks right away. Or an ult in a team fight could give her like 10 for every champion it hits and 5 for every time they get hit after the first tick of damage passive that way she can reposition and get back into the fight again.

If any ADC gets an Innate remake before Koggy or Varus ima have to set something on fire.

Kog'maw and Varus are both perfectly fine champs that aren't in need of a remake... It's the mobility-heavy meta that hurts them, not their kit. That's Riot's fault, not the champion's.
