Tips for an odd mid?

So I watched a diamond streamer recently who mains Sion mid. It seems pretty fun and I was thinking back to playing Mundo mid during placements last season. It was really fun and was at least doable bc he has high damage for a tank and could build resists and out trade and start diving at 6. Plus he can roam not easy from mid and tower dive with bot super easy.

Anyone have experience with it and can you give any advice? Max q first obviously, but then do you go w or e second? Also runes and masteries? 21/9/0 for mid damage and more kill pressure roaming, or 6/21/3 taking cdr and damage boost, defense bc you build it anyway, and ms for roaming?

Trying it in Normal first should net you the answers to your questions.

Yeah I might just take it in team builder, but there is such a big difference in ranked vs normals. Part of it is my normals mmr is low (like high bronze low silver I think, I've played some and brought it up recently), but part of it is that people in normals are trying things out and practicing them, or playing stuff that is fun, but too weak for them to want to play in ranked. So even if I play it in normals I won't know if the same things will work in ranked.

It's hard to justify doing the work twice imo, so I generally play a bots game or two in order to make sure I know what a champ's skills do and then jump into ranked w/ it to see if it fits my style or not. It's how I started playing Mundo support and I didn't mind not playing normals first.
