Feel free to add more advice.

Get in a custom game by yourself

Go to settings

  1. Decrease the hud scale. This will open more viewable area. Be sure to keep the minimap large.
  2. Unlock your screen by pressing y. In game you can press spacebar to find your character if you lose them.
  3. switch all abilities to quick cast all. The sooner you get used to this the better. There is a box at the bottom of the menu to display the aiming UI while using quick cast, be sure to click that.

My personal setup. You do not have to do this exactly but if you have a gaming mouse these are my suggestions.

  1. quick alert Ping - T
  2. quick cast trinket - mouse button
  3. quick cast items 1,2,3 - mouse buttons
  4. laugh (for style points :) ) if you have a left over mouse button.

If you plan on listening to music while you play just make sure to turn the ping volume all the way up and adjust everything else to your liking.

I'd like to start by thanking you for using your time to try to help others, it's very much appreciated!

Now apart from the good HUD and map scaling tips, I think the rest is preference. If I were talking to a new player, I'd recommend to them that they lock their screen and keep all abilities on regular casting mode so as to simplify the game as much as possible until they have the basics down pat. Personally I don't believe that quick casting or map unlocking are necessities for any skill level and should not be strongly pushed on players. Instead, have them go with the flow, learn how they like to play the game and create their own patterns.

As far as tips go, these days people stress way too much over being the best or being good enough and although it's cheesy, I'd say just play the game and have fun. This community has a relentlessly cruel vocal minority that will try to ruin your playing experience- make sure you remain unchanged and positive in your pursuit to play (not conquer) this wonderful game.

Best of luck on the Rift, AfroWairus

Thanks for the tips! im new and need all the info I can get because as you know its super overwelming at first. My problem now is that im at that point where im to op on bots with my main but not quite pvp ready because as good of practice as bots is, it doesnt always prepare you for actual pvp. For example many people dont take bots seriosly, i am frequently paired with high level people who come into a beginning bot game just to rack up 60 kills and they end up carrying the whole game not giving us low level beginners much chance to practice, and also in the few pvp games i have played in, there are so many things bots simply cant prepare you for such as large team fights, ganking, and allies needing you moving lanes. if you have any advice on the progression to pvp and good ways to learn I am all ears! thanks!!item 3006
