Countering Garen.

First off, I'm unranked. I only really play normals, I may or may not try ranked. Probably next season.

So I main Pantheon in the Toplane. And I do pretty fine except for certain champions in particular. But the one I dislike fighting the most is good old demacian Garen.

I can do nothing to him. I feel like a powerless idiot every time I play against him because of his silence and of how much he will not die. His passive makes him hug the tower to heal, his R is officially my game over, and his Q's movement speed makes me question the lack of mobility of juggernauts. And every time I see one he builds item 3742's. That's the only Armor item he builds.

I am not claiming I'm great, I'm probably not very good. But playing against Garen as Pantheon is like playing against Zyra as Braum. I feel useless early game, where Pantheon is supposedly at his best.

So I ask you all, any tips on how to counter this new juggernaut Garen? Because right now I'm seeing a lost lane whenever I meet him.

I use the recomended items. I know they usually suck for the champion they build them for, but Pantheon's has worked very well and the only thing I add is item 3110 for mana, CDR, armor, and attack speed slow.

i've literally never lost lane against garen with panth. start flask, and just keep poking him down. if he tries to get his passive up, hit him again. if he goes far enough back that you can't, then he's losing cs. if he tries to all in you, throw a spear, stun, e, throw another spear. while moving to turret of course. just keep poking him down. might need a few mana pots though

Try Bork? Garen is a health tank so thats your best bet. I have troubles with him too though so I can't help much, especially since I don't play much Panth sorry.

yepp. flask is good for healing. use it when youre missing both health and mana, just the mana when you have good health (obviously, but yaknow). in general just try not to get locked down by garen. get him to come to you, near your minions, and hopefully you should have one block stored up, and a second one once you use w

Panth < Garen.

My recommendation is if you know you are vs garen start flask with hp pots and take tp to the top lane. Typically it is really difficult to kill a competent garen so I would just focus on cs-ing and looking for windows to get your team ahead. Just play safe and farm under tower. And constantly look for opporunities to ult or tp to other lanes to gank because for the most part garen slaughters that match up.

Now item 3110 isnt that great against garen because he doesnt scale with attack speed he is mostly Q then spin to Win the R. I would reccommend HP AD and armor.

Also Pantheon isn't really an auto attacking type of champ he is more of a caster that benefits from flat ad and defensive stats with armor pen. Do not build blade on panth.

I would suggest items like item 3068 item 3748 item 3053 item 3071 item 3143 item 3742 I havent tried them myself but flat armor on its own will not help you. In this match up if you build pure damage when team fighting starts garen will silence you and you will get blown up so if you have a few of these items 1 on 1 and in team fights it may help you live a bit longer.

Just my suggestions just hit DIamond V a few weeks ago so just trying to help out answering questions on the boards while my computer is being fixed.

Against Garen as Pantheon your best bet is to farm till 6 , get some cdr and roam the map with your ult. He has hard time catching up to ppl around the map.
