hi i'm a adc main and i cant help but wonder why do adcs bring heal and why does the community demand heal? i generally bring ignite to counter heal and healing supports, and while it doesn't have a perfect track record it has helped me far more than heal ever has since it reduces lifesteal and all healing while having lingering damage if you put it on a enemy just before they try to disengage and the only benefit i see with heal is a move speed buff and the obvious heal for you and your support thats reduced when your ignited making it better for running away than fighting any good advice is appreciated

The main issue with taking ignite over heal is that as an ADC you don't want to be close enough to ignite someone. Yes it can help finish someone off or help in the laning phase as it does counter healing abilities, the problem is that for the most part you don't even want to be close enough to someone to ignite them. What I will say however is you should do what you do. What I mean by this is take what you want and what you're comfortable with if you would rather run ignite over heal then by all means do it.

Benefits of:

summoner 7 -Provides bonus movement speed AND heals both yourself and an ally. -Can be used BOTH offensively and defensively (if the enemy sees that you're lower hp, they're more willing to tower dive or make risky plays on you. You can use the heal to bait them.

summoner 14 -Gives you extra dmg which provides more killing potential and snowballing potential early game -the healing/regen debuff is good against high sustain champions/healing supports

The main reason why ADCs take heal is because unlike ignite, it can be used defensively and provides utility for 2 people. Also, it can be used as a mind game mechanic if the enemy didn't record your summoner spell cooldowns.

Your goal as an ADC is to not stay in range of the ignite. You want to kite. Heal helps with kiting. Ignite is basically useless after laning.

Ignite is for kill pressure which an ADC always has, while Heal aids with kiting and last second clutch plays.

If you're close enough that you can ignite a target you probably mucked up somewhere. Heal has the benefit of giving some much needed hp into your lifebar but also has that short speed burst. This can be used offensively to chase or defensively to escape or dodge a skill shot.

The issue with ADCs is they get easily blown up in teamfights. ADCs used to bring barrier, but Riot buffed heal and now ADCs can take it and help their support in situations too. Ignite is good if you have a soraka/sona/alistar/taric as your support, but generally Heal is a better pick for lane sustain. Many times supports will take ignite if they are thresh, leona, or other cc tanks, because their kit basically has a built-in exaust.

Because late game its more important that they survive to deal damage than for them to maybe get a kill or 2 in lane. If you look at Karhus for example, many mid Karthus' will take exhaust instead of ignite because the damage they will deal by having exhaust is higher than what ignite brings in many cases (3-4 guaranteed q's while helping you live longer as well.
