I want to know Malphite better

Other than taking him on a date, I don't know where to start

The few times I have played him top lane I haven't really gotten anywhere with him.... but there have been a great deal of time where I have fought one and they fight back really well.

I would like information that can help me play him better, since I really want to improve enough on him to actually use him well.

P.S. I understand that there are guides for this, but they lack certain details that actually make the champ strong. You build this item on this champ? Why? When? How do you make the best use of it? You max this skill first? Same set of questions. You usually pick Malphite versus this champ pool? Same set of questions. Most guides just say what to pick and what it does when you chose it, but not why its effective or when its effective.

Malph is one of those champions that even if you fall behind a bit you can still have an impact. Focus on building tanky. Depending on the match up you will have to change what you start with. If they have a ranged AA or some good long range poke ability start with item 2041 and some pots. This is because Malph has a really hard time early game and you will need that sustain to get you going against anyone with even half decent harass. Against another melee got item 1029 and pots.

When you start laning focus on getting CS, don't forget to take advantage of the passive as it will negate a good portion of the enemies damage if they poke you or trade with you. If you are against another melee punish them with E as it make it really hard for them to trade with you. If the ranged player is foolish enough to let you get near punish them too. Be aware of your mana as Malph eats his mana very quickly.

Max E first as it will give you the biggest impact in team fights in which you will shine. Q is good if you go AP Malph otherwise stick with E.

If your lane opponent is AP carry like Vlad you will want to get item 3211 quickly. Otherwise look at enemy team to determine what you need. Malph is best against AD heavy teams so picking him into an AP heavy team is not ideal. However, if they have 3 AD he will be just fine. If there are two or more AA based get item 3110 asap as it will give you a huge power boost. With sated being such a powerful item at the moment this is often my first purchase. If the enemy team is AP heavy get item 3065 quickly.

You will want item 3800 fairly quick as Malphite because you will be the primary engager for your team.

The problem with Malphite...is he doesn't talk much...guy's a rock after all. Rumor has it giving him the head of Taric is a good way to start up a convo with him.
