I know this may sound stupid, but I can't figure it out for the life of me. I used to have my hotkeys set so that I could press and hold a skill (lets just say a buff) and drop it on people, or let it go and it would self cast. Now that doesn't seem to work anymore... anyone know how to set this up?
P.S. Right now it seems I have to chose between quick cast and self cast, but I used to have both. No, I don't want to use the Alt key.

I don't get your issue. Let's take Janna's shield for example.
I have enabled smartcast on it so that I can shield allies just by hovering the mouse on them.
I also like to be able to shield myself quickly, for poking or self-ass saving purposes, so I went to the "self cast" category and bound "self-cast spell 3" (Janna's shield) and chosen a button on the side of my mouse.
Aaaaaaaaaaand it works. I've had this setup for a long time.
I might have to look into it further, but I was just looking at quick cast and self cast
