Certain Tanky Junglers can Use this Trick to Increase their Damage Output!

item 3717

Ever since the changes, it hasn't been as great on high-AS junglers because the burn is refreshed on Autos and deals damage over 3 seconds (Basically anybody who autos more than once in 3 seconds doesn't get as much utility out of it, LOL).

But what about low-AS junglers? What about junglers with a lot of lock-down who can LITERALLY beat on somebody for the full 6 seconds? You'd never expect that would you?

Junglers like Malphite and Nautilus who already rely on auto-attacks for their damage (Nautilus Sheild and Root, Malphite W steriod and Sheen procs if you go Frozen FIst) can abuse this item combination to make them high-threat targets in team-fights, and potent duelists in skirmishes. Not to mention the 20% damage reduction makes you basically UNKILLABLE when you are already building nothing but health and resistances. This helps take the edge off the insane late-game scaling that ADCs have.

Moreover, with the new exchange system, you don't have to sacrifice item 3713 either! Just buy Rangers and item 3067 early on, and farm up your jungle, and wait till 15 minutes or so when your base-damage starts to fall off, and you no longer have a problem clearing your own jungle. Then switch to item 3717! There is literally no downside! Since you aren't going damage anyways, delaying your jungle upgrade isn't really stopping you from hitting a power-spike that will be game-changing in the early game.

Just to give you an idea - the max damage at level 11 is 360 (TRUE DAMAGE) over 9 seconds. at level 18, its 486. That's a massive amount of damage tied up in somebody who is already incredibly tanky and is also getting 20% damage reduction. Even getting half that amount and adding 200-300 extra true damage to your combo is disgusting for a Tank.

Good Luck out there on the Rift fellow Summoners (RIP Lore)

Here's some amazing games I had (I don't even know how): Nautilus http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1712429967/204508178?tab=overview Malphite http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1711278982/204508178?tab=overview http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1710891549/204508178?tab=overview

Fun as hell to play!

An interesting stratagem. I think it could work. It's sad that tank junglers will be more or less destroid by the 100 gold increase that was INTENDED to curb "early game snowballing" but really enabled hyperclear junglers to get EVEN further ahead of others because it REALLY hits lowclear junglers harder than snowballers.

I don't see lanes getting a nerf to snowballing gold. OR their 2nd item costs increased across the board.

Would rather have chilling smite on Naut or Mao to make landing the hook and getting in range for the snare easier. Same applies to Cho - makes rupture easier.

Might be interesting on Malphite.

Thanks I like Malphite, but have not taken him jungling yet. I will give this a try.

it's only effective if they are focusing you which good teams will not.

most tanks get ignored and bypassed for a much squishier target.

maybe if it was a taunt.

Add to that liandries and IBG and you can one combo a squishy as naut or seju.

uh...no. It would take a lot more than this to make jungle Malph work better

Sounds like a good idea for me to try on Skarner. I find his damage falls off incredibly hard after about the 20 minute mark and this might just be what I need to keep my damage up on him, not to mention he's mostly unaffected by the cost increase on jungle items.

The biggest problems with AS runes are:

  1. getting counter-jungled early by someone who didn't take AS and

  2. having to go to a lane for whatever reason (gank, assistance, etc) and then getting bursted by an AP caster because you have 0 MR.

If the enemy jungler is on the fence about invading you early but looked you up on lolnexus and saw you running AS runes then he's no longer on the fence.

I'm not saying don't use them, just be aware of the extra risks. I have different rune setups that both work and adjust accordingly to the enemies team-comp/jungler/invasion risk. If I want the option to early gank LB then I'm bringing MR. If WW is the other jungler then bring on the AS...

Where's the 20% damage reduction coming from? I'm missing something (obvious).

Only thing Naut needs to survive the jungle is start Krugs, and then watch the stacks so he can W when the stun's coming. That is a good idea though, I usually only get it if there's a stealth carry but it's not like chilling smite is very useful on him either.

So just a question. Are you able to switch smites without a cost now? I didn't even know this was a thing

junglerboy161/28/2015, 1:57:33 PM1 votes

I use it on Nasus jungle because it helps out your early damage so much.

Orangesilk1/28/2015, 2:16:20 PM1 votes

I've been trying it on Chogath but he doesn't have enough lockdown when on jungle items.

Very interesting idea actually. I'm gonna have to experiment with it.
