Varus and IE vs. Runaan's

I've been running a lot of games as Varus and had a question about how to itemize after getting Bloodthirster (which.. last I knew, from what I've read is still the best thing to rush first on him).

The last game I was in, I was able to get away with not buying Infinity Edge at all. Although I like the damage increase, the item is so expensive that I usually end up gravitating towards Phantom Dancer (which I don't know if it's best to just skip this item on Varus or not) or Runaan's Hurricane if it's late enough in the game.

RH is a really fun item and seems to perform well after both AD and Attack Speed have started to ramp up with Varus. Is it best to rush this after BT? The thing is, for such a good item, it's FAR cheaper than IE.

This is, of course, disregarding if defensive items need to be built instead. And as for boots, when I get them depends on how my farming is going.

IE actually gives a lot more damage than the tool tip makes it sound like, and a Phantom Dancer isn't really that good unless you already have an IE. Runaan's is kind of a special case for Varus, since it helps him stack his passive so well, but usually I would only get it if going for a more on hit type of build, or maybe a hybrid/AP build. It is still really good on him either way. If you have to choose between IE, Phantom dancer, and Runaan's, I would choose IE first, and then decide on the other two based on how much AOE your team needs, vs single target damage.

Why you ask.

1v1 Runanns isn't very effective since it is built for multi target damage and to get the most in team fights you must be closer to the fight to get more then 1 target which can put you at a very bad position for someone to kill you.

Don't get me wrong ive seen it destroy teams, but usually after everything is blown
