How to counter master yi (LANE,JUNGLE,FED) guide
Jungle
Deny blue Yi is a good counter jungler. His clear is faster than most, but not as fast as say a Sej. If you're able to deny him blue his jungle becomes very difficult, if not, impossible. Most Jungle Yi's don't get his heal "W", which means he deals more damage than normal. However if you take his Blue buff it almost forces him to take W just to respectfully get through the jungle. This slows down his Jungle clear time and gank team, and more importantly, his counter jungle speed. Secondly, this forces him, almost, to take an early point in his W which means he's now sacrificing damage to get through the early jungle.
Deny Leash or good leash The best thing about taking down Yi is that you don't even necessarily have to take his blue. You can also opt to take down his leash by making it look like you're going to invade. The other lanes suffer and will head back to lane, forcing Yi to practically solo the blue buff. This means slow clear time, which means no counter jungle. OR if he uses smite on the first buff to make up for the time and hp lose, it means his counter jungle is much more dangerous and slow.
Deny ganks Master Yi has the worse ganking potential pre six out of any jungler. Unless your lane opponent has some good CC, Yi won't get a kill on you, he'll be lucky to get your flash. Using this to your advantage is very risky. Sometimes just pushing your lane before you know they're level 6 is good. this forces Yi to attempt to gank you. He won't get the kill unless your lane opponent has hard CC. Yi now can't farm and won't be able to reach level six (So his ganks aren't scary until you're past level six anyway.)
Ward Enemy Wolves. A full Master Yi clear throughout the game in the jungle is predictable when you learn where he's weakest. Master Yi, like all junglers, are weakest when fighting wolves. Buffs are normally down when fighting wolves, skills have been used normally when doing wolves. And HP is low when fighting wolves. Warding wolves can help you pick off master yi when he feels comfortable.
Lane Yi
Deny farm Deny his farm, deny him levels and gold. Good champs against him are those who hard punish farming lanes. Use champs that are good at pushing and are best at punishing. Darius punishes hard for coming in close. Zed, pushes lane and can deny farm with long range poke. Any lane bully or anti farm champ will shut him down early, and stop his late game.
Fighting his Mana, not his HP. Obviously you want them to have low hp. But the best way, and most powerful way, to shut down Yi is to fight his mana pool. Yi's stuff cost a lot of mana, especially early. If you pick a champ that uses energy or doesn't use mana at all, you can poke him down and force him to heal with his W. His W cost 75 mana at level 1. He'll be forced out of mana, and out of farming with his Q in just a few short moments. If you can out sustain his mana, you win your lane, and he's shut down.
Early Ganks Like Teemo, it's only safe and worth while to Gank Yi early. Which is good, because shutting him down early is where he's weakest. Once Yi hits six, you'll only blow his ult unless you have good hard CC like a stun or pop up. Don't even bother asking for a gank if you can't provide one of the two after he hits six. It will only slow your junglier down. If you've followed the other rules, he's all free gold for you anyway. (suggest 2 to 3 ganks before he hits level six.)
Target CC, not skill shot CC (Team fights, kill lanes) Champs like Ryze are a great example, or Annie. You put a good hard CC that he can't avoid with his Q. Skill shot champs will just get angry when they try to put their CC down on him. There are countless target cc champs with stuns and binds, even surprises. This is good for ganks, laning for the kills, and team fights. Putting a hard CC like a stun on Yi during a team fight means his death if you focus him right. And considering he most likely Qed in to pick off the weakest champ for the reset, this is most likely what's going to happen. Save your target hard CC for him, and for the free kill.
Post level six 6, Yi's MIA. Ward the center of the river. Why? because if he can't kill you, he'll ult down to your other lanes and pick up a kill there. Putting a ward in the center of the river will help you and your other laners, catch him out of position. (Though most likely your lane is low on hp). Smart tip. If you have high hp, and you find the Yi trying to go mid lane, and your jungler is near by, ALWAYS run after him to pick up the easy kill. (Make sure your jungler has the hp for it).
Fed Yi Alright you weren't able to out play the yi and your champ was a poor choice against him. Now the Yi is 12/0/12. What do you do? First off, stay together. Second off, save your hard CC target skills for Yi, he will try to kill you all off one by one. Third, Ward your jungle hard. Yi will always try to get the jump on people by flanking around from inside your jungle. If you know where he is, you can set up a trap for him. (This is assuming he's not staying with hi team).
Killing Yi while fed is the same way of killing Kat. Though Kat can snow ball way quicker than Yi. You're fighting against his Resets, and even fed, his mana is REALLY low. He can maybe get the penta on you, but he must have had full mana to do that. If Yi is half mana or something, remember, he can't kill more than 2 people before going oom. His auto attacks are still deadly, but he can't dodge skill shot hard CC anymore because his Q cost a lot of mana. He is an assassin. The key to stopping all assassins is knowing their limits. Yi's is limited by mana and has no real answer to hard target CC.
Team comp Say you want a team that just shuts down Yi so hard he quits the game for a month. Orianna mid (Her ult is crazy good against assassins. her range is so safe poke, and her pre six ganks or perfect for the kills against Yi if he's mid. Darius Top lane. If he tries to farm, you shut him down so hard it's impossible for him to reach six. If Darius saves his pull after Yi Q's, Yi will be punished hard core. Taric Support. his target stun which does more damage the closer Yi is, is perfect. Not only will Yi not be able to use his reset Q if he got the kill, but it sets him up for a perfect wombo combo kill on him. Supper fast supper dead. Caitlyn ADC. Her rage is perfect against Yi. He'll have to try to kill the weakest front liner first before reaching Cait, which means that he's going to die from the hard core CC. Also, she has the ability to push away from him. Her ult is also perfect against a low hp yi who thinks he can run faster than a speeding bullet. Nocturne Jungler, Yi can't Q anyone if he can't see them. Also, with proper counter jungle warding, Yi can be easy pickings if he tries to do anything stupid. (Nunu is also a good choice considering the counter jungle meta is strong against him, but only during jungle phase).
