is there a tank that counters ryze in lane?

Maokai is a tank that should fare well against Ryze. He has sustain, enough damage to be relevant against Ryze in lane, the tools to assist jungler ganks on Ryze. Then in teamfights Maokai hurts Ryze's damage output with the 20% damage reduction from his ultimate while making it more difficult for Ryze to get to the targets he wants to.

Cho'Gath should have a pretty good time against Ryze in lane, Vorpal spikes provide good wave clear as well as some harass as long as you position correctly. When it comes time to trade, Ryze is slow enough that a well aimed Q can knock him up, Feral Scream to keep him from retaliating, then Feast for the kill.

cho is good vs all the top lane cancers his sustain is so ridiculous. dont press q or w unless you're getting a gank/kill trade with them and heal up rinse repeat

Like you said, Cho lets you survive, his casting animations make him an easy target for Rupture.

Yorick wins lane vs everyone (after that, who knows, but he does win lane)

Maokai can do well because of his passive.

from my personal experiences playing top lane as volibear full tank, you can't be afraid to take some damage. if you can get past ryze's cc, just fling him, slow, and then bite after smacking him a bit. i usually end up killing him if he isn't smart enough to back off and go heal.

Galio is a solid option if they have an ap mid as well.

get mercs and you can case him down pretty easy and he dont got ignite so passive heals

I've had good fights against Ryze with Sion. Ryze profits from standing still and spamming, and Sion benefits when his opponent is standing there for him.

yorick but hes more of a fighter than a tank mundo does pretty good after a while and he can farm with cleavers

Sion's seen some good play against Ryze top. If you can survive a lot of abuse during pre-6, Mundo wins the lane completely after he gets his core item Spirit Visage. I haven't tried Yorick or Maokai against him, however.

chogath is a great counter you can actually slow him down he wont scale enough by 30mins against cho.

Mao, Nasus, Ali, Galio, Tank-Fiddle, J4, Naut, Renekton, Singed, Swain, WW, Vuli,...it´s really hard to pick a Champ that get´s countered by Ryze toplane. He´s just very vulnerable to getting all-ined early on and even with tear stacking up you can easily play him oom with a little mr and sustain on most Champs (or just push him away and go roaming).

Cho'Gath,Yorick,Irelia and Jax are semi tanky but the first kill snowballs.

i actually did decent against the 1 ryze i played as trundle. the lane was pretty passive though, so both of us got fed by simply not dying even though i destroyed his turret first thanks to a gank from the jungler. i can't tell if trundle out sustains ryze or the ryze i played against just wasn't good. i typically pillared him towards (or away depending on where he was in lane) his turret to try and prevent him from farming and closed in on him while he was slow. but my experience in 1 game doesn't mean much becaus it was teambuilder and i'm unranked.

Someone who can keep his distance from him and has a stun should do well. Viktor, Heimer, Gnar, Lissandra etc. Maybe even Leona?

Wukong is the best pick against Ryze.
