I'm not a pro (or even ranked at all, actually), but I enjoy taking champs places they aren't really meant to go. Braum's one of those champs who I've never really seen leave his intended support lane out in the while, and I figured it was his turn to pull a Lulu and show people what you can do when your CC-laden kit gives you some of the most amazing ganks you'll ever encounter!
Likes this it's actually a good anti-meta i have only seen a few Braums doing that and i think of trying it myself, without you know... feeding the enemy haha.

Supports in the toplane tend to do great with jungler coordination since their kit allows them to naturally secure kills during ganks.

The problem with these champions is that, since most of their kit is based on utility, they don't NEED the toplane gold to perform well on a team, and the people who ARE gold reliant would love to take your place at the toplane. (But then again, Blitz has 100% AP scaling on both his hook and ult, so he does have a use for that farm gold, same with Morg and Lulu)
