A Fish-Lover's Take on Void Fizz

I feel I should preface this with the fact that Fizz was my 'first love' in LoL. I had good times with Blitz and Veigar, but then I bought Fizz on a whim and suddenly everything just clicked and I could be heard laughing maniacally as I dodged skillshots and obliterated mid-laners from several rooms away (there were a few complaints...). The Void Fizz skin concept seemed really interesting to me as a fan of the character for the longest time, and seeing it realized at long last has me incredibly stoked. That said, I've seen a two complaints on S@20 and the Skin Spotlights Youtube video that I think have a fair bit of merit to them:

1. The Voice -- To be entirely honest, Fizz's voice has always grated on me just a little bit. The VA obviously has the range to hit that perfect, 'childish trickster' vibe that Fizz needs to fit his archetype, but the gravel in each line and laugh always struck me as a bit wrong for a character who's supposed to be sly and slippery. That said, the void filter on that voice is what people criticize, and I think i know why: It's too high!

If you think about Kha'zix, Koggie, Cho'gath, and Velkoz, you may note that all four of them have very deep voices, as is fitting their characters. What's more, though, the older three (and Cho in particular) have a hint of a smaller, sillier voice behind the main baritone (assuming that's the right term... I'm not a music guy). I think Void Fizz could benefit from the filter working in the opposite direction from how it does now. Warp his usual VO to a lower, deeper tone, leaving the old voice as a sort of echo in the background. It still hints at the usual voice while carrying the weight of the void over with it!

(There are also a few people who say that his VO lines don't match the evil look of the skin, but I think they actually transfer quite well, with most of his quips coming across as threats with the warped sounds/visuals)

2. The Skin Texture: If you compare the original skin concept with the current look of the skin on the PBE, you'll notice the latter looks mostly 'fleshy', as opposed to the chitinous, glossy-textured plating of the concept splashes and pre-rendered 3D models that followed it. I totally understand the desire to go more towards the flesh route, since it looks cool and makes a bit more sense for a creature that would presumably spend most of its time in the water, but I think there's room for a compromise that wouldn't necessarily require any 3D model work.

By darkening a few sections of skin and adding some 'crags' of leaking inner light (possibly also making the eyes glow more to match), it would appear more like a fusion of the two ideas. Static areas (the head, non-joint portions of limbs, etc) would be covered in a Cho-like, thin plating with the fleshy, floppy bits extending out from it. I think it would better sell the 'void' aesthetic, almost making him look like one of Malz's voidlings in some respects, and tie the finish product in with the awesome idea that spawned it.

As I said before, I'm a massive Fizz fan and I love the skin even as-is, but if more work is able to be done and people are willing to do it, I think the envelope can be pushed just that little bit further.

Thanks for reading!

Good observations overall. Like you said on the voice filter, I also got the feeling that the filter turns Fizz's normally playful jabs into something a bit more sinister, which is actually really cool. I'm willing to bet Riot tried the voice a pitch lower and didn't like it, but who knows.

On the end of the model itself, I'd agree that it could use a slightly more chitinous feel to it. Maybe his textures could be a little more "glossy" instead of fleshy?

Damn, That's what I call a in-depth review. Are you saying the skin just needs some better polishing? Maybe it will get cleaned up before going live.
