Support Questions

So. Here's my thing. I love to Support, but I'm finding it so difficult to be able to turn the tide and help win the game. I've tried lots of Aura items, and it works alright. I tried support until midgame, then go AP, but it's too little too late.

I like to support Braum Lux Maokai Soraka Kayle Janna

I know it's not the best selection, but I play them pretty well.

Any tips?

Playing support well is all about playing smarter rather than harder.

You're job isn't to overpower opponents and get a high K/D ratio, it's about doing pretty much everything besides getting a high K/D ratio to win the game.

So, I wouldn't focus on trying to do things like switch gears to an AP carry roll so you can try your luck with damage.

Also, I wouldn't focus on flashy plays that are as easy to see and feel as kill streaks. Most of how a support marches to victory is widely unappreciated because it's really hard to see and feel, so try looking at what you're doing in as objective a way as you can as a support, because less of their gameplay works on a gut reaction basis. (Unless you're Vander from Roccat).

Just try to focus on whatever strengths a support already brings, besides damage. Try to look at things objectively so you can abuse everything a support has to offer. Usually that will give you a substantial edge over players that think support should be a 5th damage roll.

Of those champs, the only one you'll want actual support items on is Soraka. Braum is pretty much Sightstone, Sweeper, Supp item, and full tank. Maokai is Sweeper, Supp Item, Sightstone, bulky AP. Kayle is Sightstone, sweeper, full AP (you'll want to sell off the support item). Janna's in the same boat as Kayle, but you keep the Supp item (usually Frost Queen).

Primarily focusing on Mao support: You'll want either Ancient Coin or Brace to start (suggestion is getting coin unless against poke champs like Ez, where brace's sustain will help more) Don't rush sightstone, babies will suffice for a while, get a pink though and 2 greens. First item you'll want is either part of item 3165 's tree Then go sightstone. You'll want early CDR to get into bulky AP. Full item build would look like this

Support item of choice, item 3280 , item 3116 , item 3512 or item 2045 , item 3165 , item 2045 or item 3157 , item 3364

Essentially, if you get Hourglass, give up Portal for Sightstone, if you get Portal, give up Hourglass for Sightstone.

Skill order is up to you, though I usually go maxing my Twisted Advance first.

none of the supp champs you listed in the vote are actually good supports. Except for soraka shes decent right now. Jana is a great support to go if you dont trust your laner. She has great peels and if you go even in lane or even lose a little you will outscale there support. Braum is a good tank support but hes like leo. You either go in and win or you lose hard. He unlike leo has an escape though i prefer using that to help the adc and give him armor
