Please don't be the guy who goes "I think they're getting baron", then immediately rushes straight to baron pit without his team, gets collapsed upon and dies, then loses mid inhib because his team now has to fight a 4v5 against a team with baron buff.
Team is 5 manning scuddle at dragon when a ping goes down on the ward-less baron pit. Everyone does a 180 and runs in only to die. Yeah this happens a lot.
Actually the opposite of what you said happened in the game I just played. except we checked baron with 4 only to see they just finished it and engaged 4v5 anyway.
But sometimes that one person can either make them think more are coming and NOT get baron or do enough damage to scare them off it. Especially if it's Zyra ;)
But yes, being careful when checking Baron is a good idea.
my favorite jungler is lee sin so i usually just steal baron when i get there
