Someone explain why this isn't just a straight round robin

Like... what is the sense in making people face random opponents

What respectable competitive tournament have you ever seen that matches participants this way?

I mean even your OWN TOURNAMENTS, LCS LCK LEC so and so.... aren't in this format

Who's idea was this? Why?

RNG matchups keeps the game fresh, new and exciting while maintaining the Riot golden standard of optimal frustration levels :D

Having to build and place a composition that responds to multiple situations makes more builds viable.

I do not think you know what round robin means.

You still have to face everyone in round robin.

Yes, but if you know you just fought the only guy with a blitz you can move your carry back into the corner because you won't face the blitz again for a while. This makes you not only more effective during the blitz round but also during the other rounds where having your carry out of the corner is not ideal.

That would actually make the game more about skill instead of random chance?

No, it just makes it more tedious. It's actually harder to arrange in a way that responds to multiple possible enemies than it is to rearrange for each fight against predictable enemies. Take assassins for example. If you knew when you would fight the assassins, you could simple move all your tanks to the back row and all your squishies to the front, and you would crush the assassin comp every single time. It would be an instant slaughter, not even remotely competitive. However, if you can fight either the assassin comp or the ranger/glacial comp in any given round, you can't do that or the ranger/glacial comp would slaughter you. So instead you need to come up with an arrangement that can survive assassins and rangers.
