1 in every 4 american LOL players suffers from Top Laner Syndrome, or knows someone who suffers from TLS. It is a destructive, crippling mental illness that plagues children and adults alike. Currently, there is no cure. But we're trying to help raise awareness, so that maybe someday, someone will find a cure for this terrible disease.

You, or a loved one may have TLS if you've ever done any of the following:

  • Had a score line of 0/5 or worse by 5 minutes into the game as a top laner. -Had a score line of 0/8 or worse by 10 minutes into the game as a top laner. -Had a score of 0/12 or worse by the end of the game as a top laner.

You may also have had the following recurring thoughts: -This time is going to be different. -I almost killed him last time, this time I'll get him for sure. -He only lived because he did (x action), he won't do that next time. -I only lost because I couldn't (x action), next time I'll do it and I'll win.

Top laner syndrome is a terrible illness that affects millions, but with your help, and your dedication to spreading awareness, we can end TLS once and for all.

Let your duo partner or loved one know... Its OK to play passively in lane. Its ok to farm under tower and wait for ganks. Its ok to build defensive items once you fall behind. Its ok to type in chat "I lost this lane, I need help. Just gonna be safe from now on."

Nobody needs to be a victim. Not anymore.

I'm against teemo/gnar/kennen/ornn/panth/maokai. I'm just sitting under my tower, to play anymore passively I'll have to back and sit in fountain, but still somehow I'm dying under my tower, they bring a huge wave to me, poke me under tower for 2-3 min, their jg comes and i get dived with my 20% HP

Sounds to me like someone who suffers from "My jungler is useless"

Completely separate issue.

The junglers i get can't even lane gank, so yeah my junglers are useless, and the other 3 players on my team think so as well. Games have become so easy to read for me as a top laner, if their jungler ganks top before mine, the enemy team has the better jungler and we going to lose that match. I was told I was too rude and toxic and that the jungler wont gank top I said ok fine, then help the other lanes.....my turrets were the only ones standing at 10mins in, 4 turrets gone to an ezreal jungle.....our jungler, as udyr got out jungled by an ezreal...

This thread actually gave me a decent chuckle. I can totally imagine there being a commercial like those random drug ones where there's a family sitting in a field or running down a beach into the sunset as a calm voice lists all the side effects to their new drug called top-be-strong.

Real talk though. We had a meeting on Monday to talk about what we can do in the short term for the state of top lane, while the team that worked on runes finds a more long term solution to the fighter problem/preseason wraps up. We typically find during pre-season that teams are more than likely to opt into sub-optimal full damage comps as opposed to having a tank somewhere, which makes folks like Ornn/Mao look all the more powerful when they're actually picked (they also are just too strong which is why we're nerfing them). Usually this behavior switches as we move into the start of the new year, though this year may be different with the introduction of runes. We're seeing some things like Vayne top crop up, and honestly I think that's pretty cool seeing her flex there more frequently (though still far less than other top laners), but we need to make sure you still have some recourse against her as opposed to just having to concede your lane.

Regarding top lane, we're going to be doing another end of year patch on December 14th after 7.24 goes live on December 6th. A lot of focus is being put on top lane, both champions that are weak, champions that are suppressing others more than we'd like, as well as some itemization tuning. It's stuff that we're going to be willing to undo in the future should we find that the longer term systems solve flips the table and turns thing into a 100% fighter dominated meta, but that'll be a later discussion and may not even be necessary.

TL;DR - we hear the plight, we're looking to do some temporary measures to help resolve some of the pain, and we're looking into the long term fixes for the role/classes as well.

Speaking of this, is there any talk of looking at & adjusting Malzahar ? I know I'm just low elo, but down here and from what i have heard across the board he is very dominant right now, safe waveclear, Lower cooldown banshees passive, and a super impactful pick ult means he's a solid pick into nearly any composition and can still easily go even into tough matchups.

I realize he's supposed to be a counter to high mobility champs (silence & ult) he can still be blind picked into artillery type mages Velkoz Karthus Xerath that supposedly counter him and go relatively even in lane and be more impactful after lanephase b/c of his gamechanger ult.

I'd just like to have ban options when i'm playing mid and have the earlier pick rather than having to ban Malzahar without having to walk on eggshells all laning phase and arguably all game. (just 1 good malz ult on the right carry late in the game= won teamfight and probably GG)

The base damage is somewhat meaningful, but the ratio will really add up as he gets items. At 300 ap he'll be doing 90 less damage from the ratio minus an additional 25/50 from the base. There's potential we'll need to do more, but we're also looking at some potential changes in runes that may impact him as well.

While looking at changes in runes that may impact "him" as well, please play attention to how it may impact other champs as well, whether it might end up a buff or nerf. I am not saying this for me but for other players and riot their self.

Oh for sure, all of our changes when looking at runes are done thinking of all champions that benefit from them. If there's some that are raising a whole class of characters we tend to look at the rune, if a champion is an outlier with the rune, we tend to look at the champion.

Can you please, please focus on the Kleptomancy interaction on Ezreal's Mystic shot instead of just flat nerfing him? Every statistic I can find points to him ONLY being OP due to this keystone interaction.

If you nerf his scaling, you will just absolutely force him into using the rune until you inevitably nerf that interaction anyway, and then he's just worthless.

Just make it so Mystic Shot does not proc Kleptomancy. PLEASE.

As a Garen main it made me so happy to see you specifically mention Vayne. I've been banning her every single game simply because I can't figure out how to deal with her. I can make the best of a Quinn or Gnar matchup, but Vayne is another monster entirely.

You said you're looking at fighters, but that's a rather large group. Are you looking at them all as a class, or just specific ones?

Is there any news specifically on the state of Juggernauts? I'd be interested to hear how you guys think that subclass has aged.

Then you return to lane with your cloth armor and health potions and immediately get 100 to 0'd underneath your tower by the 1-0 enemy laner and maybe his jungler if the jungler wants free gold. And your team whines at you for not playing safe while you wonder why you didn't decide to just bang your head against the wall instead of queuing up for a game of league.

Another indication of Top Laner Syndrome is blaming the fact that you went 0/12/0 on other individuals which may include but are not limited to:

To be fair though, if you're against a yorick, Malzahar, or just a straight lane counter, your jungler is essentially responsible for the matchup.

Not as destructive as the "Bot lane suicidal tendencies" syndrome which causes serious distress in the brain of both the ADC and support's brains, resulting in an infinite loop of pushing a lane just to get 4-man ganked. But, the syndrome also including masochism tendencies, they'll do it over and over again

Anyways down to serious matters, most of the times top lane is losing because they can't even farm. Top lane is now basically about beating the crap out of your opponent into submission and denying them farm. Worst part is some of those lane bullies are late game monsters like Ornn and Maokai. The ones whom are not are even worse and make the game end at 15 mins, Pantheon. Junglers never come top, and really they shouldn't. Why? Because top is useless.

Right now the worst fact of top is really you're rarely determining the game. Unless you're hyper fed or a Pantheon, you really don't matter. Bot lane holds the power to the game. I've won games where I've been demolished top but our bot lane was superior. I've also lost games even though I demolished top because their bot lane is superior.

-His team was winning so his jungler didn't see that point in wasting time top. But that won't stop him from forcing bad plays, allowing the enemy team to make a comeback.
