No one wants gold
Stop giving people gold as an "item" drop. Do you understand how easy it is to get interest on gold? We want ITEMS. Seriously, stop it with the gold, giving us 5 gold in place of an item is not "compensation", it's laziness.

depends when you get it. In the first creeprounds, i'll take the gold over items any day, it quickly baloons into a strong econ start, and you often can't use the first items anyway cause you either don't have the right champs to put them on yet, or some compnents that you want to save for specific items(like keeping a belt so you can get morellos as soon as you find a rod), early gold drops are a nice advantage with no real downside. Sure, getting IE+Guisoos on an early nocturn or AA+ludens on Ezreal would be awsome, but getting such an item combo with a fitting champ is VERY rar.
And past raptors, item drops equal out across the board, so not getting items early doesn't hurt your lategame, cause you'll catch up after raptors.
The only drop i'm not sure about are full items. If they count as an coponent drop for your total dropps(the amount of items after raptors), it's great. If they count as 2 components, they suck.
3 star champion > 2 star champion with half an item every single time.
A big "IF" for 3 star champ that requests at least 20 re-rolls (if you are lucky). With 3-8 gold => maxim 4 re-rolls.
Especially early game a good item can help you to have a good win streak => lot of golds.
Gold should be just more convertible. Now you can only buy exp or waste it on rerolls, but if player will have more opportunities to spend it, coins drop will be rather nice.
I like the gold, it can be quite useful. Items aren't the only thing in the game. Especially in the early game, gold can get you just as ahead, if not farther than items.

Depends on quantity. 10 golds is a thing but 2-3 golds instead of half item is not OK.

In my experience, every time that I start the creep rounds with gold, I have a hard lead over any other player on the table. It falls off a little bit after second or third farming phase, but generally speaking, with a good base composition and proper management, having an early gold lead is far stronger than any single item.
