Opinion: 3 star champs should be easier to get

So I'm talking with a buddy about why he doesn't like TFT, and he's making some good points.

Mainly, he argues that 2 star champs are basically worthless against 3 star champs. He's showing numbers and making a pretty good argument... but I'm thinking "but 3 star champs are such an investment. You have to spend so much more gold and dedicate so much of your bench to getting them, that they need to be that much better than 2 star champs to work, conceptually."

The champion frequency stats are such that 3 star champs are a crapshoot, basically. And I agree: whoever gets them starts to snowball immediately, and the only chance you have for a comeback is to get lucky enough to get some yourself before you die.

But, if this game mode wanted to lean into real competition, that could change, right? Do 3 star champs really need to be that hard to get? What if you could get a 3 star champ with 2 star champs and 1 extra guy (so 7 pieces instead of 9)? Could we nerf the stats on 3 stars to compensate and still have a fun game?

I think we could. Discuss.

The only viable way to make them easier to get would be to put 6 options in the shop. You have to remember that this makes it easier for your opponents as well so nothing changes and this would just weaken late game comps that require levels to meet compositions requirements.

Until about a month ago, I would have said, that your side was easily stronger. From my perspective, it usually wasn't worth fishing through the low levels to make a Gold Zyra, barely stronger than a SIlver Zyra, and not worth putting items on her anyway.

Gold Units were buffed in the last two patches.

However, in the most recent patch, the high-end Silver comps apparently also received indirect boost again.

There's no clear answer, as long as the player knows what he's doing.

At level 9, a Gold T4 unit isn't too difficult to build, and never has been a problem, once that level of play is achieved. (But the game is often won, before such unit will be completed anyway.)

The real bargain, is probably to invest in a strong T3 unit. You might find one even before the first PVP rounds. Start stacking. And complete in the late game. T3 are most common at lvl 8.

If gold units would be easier to get then everybody will be force to use hyper-rol strategy otherwise he will be beaten by the others that spent gold for 3 stars units. So most of the players will have 3 stars units. This is what you want ?

So why should I level up to try hard to upgrade 4 tier units to 2 stars when I can have 4-5 gold units using hipper-rol 3-4 times ?

Would be a gold units battle :) We would never see a 5 tier unit.

Most are pretty easy to get, at least if they are one or two cost units. As it goes up they are meant to be very hard to make.

Even so, I've beaten plenty of 3star comps. You just have to utilize items, postions, and units in order to do it. 3stars are powerful but not always the best.
