In ~24 hours, I won't have to argue with anyone for a role EVER AGAIN.
So much hype.
You hyped, bro?
EDIT: They changed it to the 14th. But the title, by the progress of time, is still roughly true. CHOO CHOO HYPE TRAIN

Do you seriously believe your own hype?
Vegeta, while the asshole he is for quite a while, gets some great one-liners in a certain amazing dub/parody.
I'm surprised League players like Dragon Ball, so much toxicity.
I haven't watched the anime proper since 07. The TFS abridged series however is a different story.
I must now watch DBZA all night.
The new champ select is abysmaly bad. Terrible.
Youll be wishing the old one was back pretty soon.
Ummmmmmm, don't think so. No, not really. Not having to be forced into roles i'm not the best at, people not fighting for roles, no more GG FF@20 during champ select. how will i ever live without all these things and more.
SO HYPED
I'm just not looking forward to the trolls who are going to ban my Champion after I've selected them during the pick intent phase. Besides that, yeah, I'm excited.
I am very skeptical that will happen very often. People seem to vaguely understand that putting their teammates on tilt is not the best way to win.
But trolls will be trolls. I am sure it will happen some, even if it's infrequent.
I think it might occur often to players who tend to pick off-meta Champions or simply Champion/role combinations that teams don't agree with. I like to go Quinn top a lot, and top is the lane everyone expects a tank to go to (or at least a fighter with good defenses). If the teams I get into repeatedly ban her from me then I'll have to start lying about what Champion I intend to pick, which is going to suck because that can create a whole other set of communication issues.
I hope you don't have that problem. If you selected Quinn top, I would be one of the guys working around it. For the people that want to win with team comp, they should shoulder the burden of rounding out the comp. For those that want to carry with Quinn top, let 'em. That's what I say.
Well another thing you can do if that becomes a problem is just wait until the last min...from what i understand you select 2 - 3 roles...then you go into your team and are given one of the roles. Then you say what champion you would "like" for that role so your team knows...then the bans happen...THEN you pick the champion...so you could lie about which one you would "like" to play b/c you don't need to actually play that one.
I've played it on the PBE, and you don't have to pick a champ that you are pref with. you can just wait till it is actually your turn to pick that way you don't get troll banned. gonna copy/paste this around.

You can also just not show your team what you want to play ... from what I've seen?
Ever since they announced it I've been hyped. I think it will cut out a lot of the negativity in Ranked, which often begins at Champ Select.

I feel it has no place in soloqueue ranked, it kinda defeats the point. If you want to be guaranteed a role there was always 5v5 ranked. Versatility/adaptability is important in soloqueue atm.
Not really. I think most of us have one/two roles where we play our best (mine are mid and jungler), and it really helps to consistently get to play my best roles in ranked instead of having to play random adc or supp (where I really suck) every now and then.
It will also end with the "first pick always mid" meta.

Of course, I'm at my best in the jungle, that's been the case since season two. I've put effort into being a decent to good top/midlaner and a decent mid. I'm not a good adc, I know that's the case and try to play around it as much as possible, there's been a few cases where I needed to play ad carry, but in those cases I did my best to communicate with my team to pull out a win. and the ones among those that I lost were fair, up to this point it's been your overall skill that mattered. Under the new system one-trick ponies will have an advantage in climbing. at the moment being a versatile player, as in, being a jack of all trades, is rewarded. Under the new system it won't mean a thing.
Meanwhile, in the pro scene, it's not "yeah, I'm on [team name]," it's "I'm [team name]'s mid player." There's definitely something to be said about knowing the other roles so you can better work with them, but the best way to climb, and the way the game is set up in general, is for players to main a lane.
You should be focusing on what champs for my role can compliment the rest of my team, not what champs can I not suck at when my team forces me into a role I'm not familiar with.
And argument number 3: this is a game. Not a job. Not everyone is win oriented, where winning is the above-all factor in how much fun they're having. I'd, personally, much rather lose in a match within my role, than win in a match where I was forced otherwise.
You are so right.
But I'm trying to avoid too much discussion. This thread is about HYPE
Man, new champ select looks so cool, but I loved team builder. Everyone who wasn't a Yasuo mid was usually very nice, and I'm not sure if that'll be the case now that it's more "mainstream".
Team Builder was nice, but I think I'll like this new champ select more than TB for two huge reasons.
You don't go into games blind anymore. As a top laner specifically, having draft pick and bans means I don't randomly get screwed because I chose Garen and the other son of a bitch guy felt like playing Vayne top. Or Nasus into Renekton. Or mid Lux into Zed. Or Amumu jungle into Elise. Etc.
The team is able to mold its picks not just around the enemy team, but also each other. We'll no longer be forced to accept whichever support happens to show up, for fear of waiting another 5 minutes for one.
Toxicity in general should decrease due to the new system. It might not be as positive at old Team Builder, but it will surely be much better than the old draft system. :)
I don't think there was ever a reason for them to make any match type blind, even blind pick. It makes the matchup kinda silly with runes and masteries having such a huge impact on laning. Why not just have a 15 second window where people could actually pick in to their lane?
It's mostly for simplicity's sake, I think.
Some people just don't care to play super competitively. Maybe they don't like the idea of bans. Maybe they just want to play Zed mid and don't want to get counterpicked. Maybe they didn't like the obligation of being last pick and needing to fill out a team comp. Maybe they only play support and just don't want to not play support. Etc.
For playing competitively, sure, knowing matchups and team comps and adjusting your runes and masteries is vital. But that's not everybody.
Why not just have a 15 second window where people could actually pick in to their lane?
It would be pretty unfair for one team to be able to look at the other laners and pick into them without offering them the same courtesy. But that's impossible, so picks would have to rotate to make it fair. That introduces pick order. But then first pick would always get the best champ, and luck shouldn't decide games, so now we need bans...and suddenly we're back to our pick/ban phase.
It's gotta be as fair as possible, or as blind as possible. Neither side cares for the area in between the two.
I definitely get your point, but I'm talking about in blind pick no form of seeing what the other team has until EVERYONE's locked in. at least you'd be able to customize runes to be able to make it much closer to an actual match, you know? Picking runes and masteries to fight your lane opponent are an incredibly important aspect of this game that's kinda lost by the wayside in that mode.
I want to play the role AND champ I want... If this allows me to do that then i am hyped... Otherwise, I want TB back.
(New champ select with Draft Mode ONLY is not an acceptable replacement for TB.)
Can't say the same about EUW sadly. Oh well, hope you guys are having fun.

JERK (jk I'm still sad tho :C)
I never even argued to begin with, I just chose which ever role was necessary, works like a charm
I rarely argued.
Usually, I ended up having bad experiences when I picked something, then the last pick jerk who didn't make a peep in chat complains at what he has left, and picks zed support or some crap.
Never again.
I know how you feel. One of my last ranked games I picked Annie into Yasuo as I was first pick. The second and third pick jungle and top. Fourth and last pick had support and adc to chose. 5th pick chose adc. You wanna know what fourth pick takes?
! I've heard he's an ok off the meta support, but in ranked? Ugh. So Poppy had to switch from jungle to support and let Wu take her lane because we all didn't like him for choosing that. Come late game I think we were going to win. Nope. Wu decides to not group up until we are already getting picked off in team fights and then we lose.
So yes I'm looking forward to this champ select.
If you think that's never going to happen again, you're mistaken lol. Trolls gonna troll. Queuing up for support will probably have a lower wait time. So inb4 people just pick support and go wherever they want since rito doesn't attempt to fix the trolling situation.
Eh, you could already do that with Team Builder.
I'm not a huge fan of them forcing this kind of queue on all ranked players, wish they would have kept it separate.
That being said it's not a HUGE deal to me, just not what I would have preferred personally.
if this is true then i am excited but i havnt heard anything released about this
I have a feeling it will not go over well, but team builder was awful. A change needed to occur. The team captain ban phase for team builder was the start of trouble, and it disrespected the value or intelligence of all other players. Maybe a captain mode makes sense for 5v5 pro premades, but even then only the teams that collaborate should have been favored by using what the new interface uses. Forced captain mode in any game is too much of a political tag, and it oozes lack of imaginative design from every orifice, and it fails to be good social engineering, and it prevents innovative expansion, and it just plain sucks.
Uh... wut.
There is no captain for this mode. The three bans on your side go to the last three on the team, last I checked. And there was no ban phase in team builder, ever, that I'm aware of.
This is not hype. I don't know what it is, because I don't understand what you are saying, but it is not hype. I am against it.

Lel, it was delayed to January 14
Unlike some people who are saying that they are not looking forward to it because of the "wait times", i really dont care about that. I would rather wait due to being able to choose a comfort role than have to "go by pick order" (which usually means the last player is left with support) or have to deal with trolls because they didnt get the role they wanted.
Im very much looking forward to this.
For sure.
It's VERY easy to pick it apart and point out problems that MAY occur, but until we see them, it's hard for me to give much credit to the haters. This version of champ select advances the ideal of playing this game substantially, and I think that's worth working toward. If there's trolls and problems, Riot will come up with ways to deal with that. Rest assured.
How do you know it's the 14th instead of the 13th?
on the service status page 1-2 days before an update there will be a notice that the servers are going to go down on X day at Y time (usually between 1 and 3 am), and will be down for T hours.
