Let us create some fun ideas for some items that can be very fun to use once you have them shall we!

By utility mage items means items that mages that are both supports and mid laners can get for the utility that they will grant rather than offensive damage, mages in other positions are including too of course.

Tommy: The Bubble Bird (Ranged Only): Recipe: Lost Chapter (900g) + Forbidden Idol (550g) + Amplifying Tome (435g) + 515g = 2400g

Statistics: +60 Ability Power +100% Base Mana Regen +400 Mana +UNIQUE Passive: 20% Cooldown Reduction +UNIQUE Passive - Animal Partner: Tommy follows you around everywhere!

Tommy will attack the closest enemy within your basic attack range, prioritizing champions, every 2 seconds slowing it down by 5%(+1% per 10AP) that decays over 2 seconds.

Jack: The Thunder Eel (Ranged Only): Recipe: Blasting Wand (850g) + Fiendish Codex (900g) + 450g = 2200g

Statistics: +80 Ability Power +UNIQUE Passive: 20% Cooldown Reduction +UNIQUE Passive - Animal Partner: Jack follows you around everywhere!

Jack attacks the closest minion or monster within your basic attack range every 10 seconds unleashing a chain lightning to up to 8 targets, cannot hit champions, dealing 60(+100%AP) magic damage to every enemy struck.

Whimsy: The Fire Wolf: Recipe: Needlessly Large Rod (1250g) + Blasting Wand (850g) + 700g = 2800g

Statistics: +100 Ability Power +UNIQUE Passive - Animal Partner: Whimsy follows you around everywhere!

Whimsy attacks the closest enemy, prioritizing champions, within your basic attack range every 4 seconds to burn the target for 4 seconds dealing 60(+60%AP) magic damage over the duration.

Magic Shield: Recipe: Seeker's Armguard (1200g) + Needlessly Large Rod (1250g) + 550g = 3000g

Statistics: +100 Ability Power +45 Armor +UNIQUE Active - Magic Bash: Charge forward increasing your movement speed over 4 seconds up to 100% bonus movement speed and gain 80% physical damage reduction if you are moving towards an enemy champion and take 20% increased physical damage if you are moving away from an enemy champion (60 seconds cooldown).

You cannot stop your own movement during Magic Bash, but colliding with an enemy champion will stop the effect.

Those that are confused this is like a mini, weaker Sion ultimate intended for those that need to get in the fight like Galio and Annie rather than Hourglass' utility of being immune to dying for 2.5 seconds. Also more options to build Seeker's Armguard into (Yea!) and its physical damage reduction and amp only depending if you shoot the target from the front or behind, magic damage is unaffected, and true damage ignores damage reduction and amplification anyways.

The Grand Mage's Mantle: Recipe: Null Magic Mantle (450g) + Null Magic Mantle (450g) + Blasting Wand (850g) + 550g = 2300g

Statistics: +60 Ability Power +60 Magic Resist +UNIQUE Active - Magic Force: Blast the area around you knocking back struck enemies to the outer limit of your basic attack range (40 seconds cooldown).

Intended as a defense item for immobile mages to keep mobile champions away from them, melee champions can purchase this but the active is very weak for them plus works against them (typically a melee wants something that gets them in range and keep them in range not a "get away from me" effect).

Life Scepter: Recipe: Blasting Wand (850g) + Forbidden Idol (550g) + Fiendish Codex (900g) + 600g = 2900g

Statistics: +100 Ability Power +100% Base Mana Regen +UNIQUE Passive: 20% Cooldown Reduction +UNIQUE Passive - Life Magic: Your abilities against enemy minions and champions apply a damage-less burn for the next 6 seconds healing yourself for 4%(+1% per 50AP) of their maximum health over the duration. +UNIQUE Active - White Magic: All healing from your Life Magic is removed from yourself and placed on the target ally champion for the next 6 seconds (6 seconds static cooldown). [Range: 850 units]

Banshee's Cloak: Recipe: Negatron Cloak (720g) + Chain Vest (800g) + Blasting Wand (850g) + 630g = 3000g

Statistics: +70 Ability Power +40 Armor +40 Magic Resist +UNIQUE Passive - Magic Barrier: Upon not taking champion or turret damage for 20 seconds gain a barrier that absorbs 80% of all champion damage you would have received that lingers for 1 second upon taking champion damage. An active Magic Barrier is disabled if you dealt more than 30% of a champion's maximum health within 2.5 seconds.

This is an anti-pick item for immobile mages if they can avoid poke damage (and turret shots) after some time, and to avoid assassins and burst mages from exploiting this item the passive is disabled as if you took damage if you did a lot of a champion's health in a short period of time so you cannot kill someone and get out taking barely a scratch of damage. So you can use this item to stop you from dying outright, but you cannot use this item to go in and kill your target and get out without punishment.

UPDATE: Fixed Life Scepter up a bit to make the wording more accurate to what it is doing, and is now a damage-less burn for 6 seconds that heals based on the target's maximum health over the duration.

Life Magic now only applies this healing burn from your abilities rather than basic attacks and abilities, so just like Liandry's Torment for similarity, but it is all abilities and not just damage abilities against enemy minions and enemy champions.

Life Magic's base heal reduced to 4% from 6% max health over the duration.

Fixed Life Scepter's White Magic by properly calling it an active and not a passive (oopsie, it was always an active though so no change), but now it grants your Life Magic's healing over to the target ally champion for 6 seconds instead of refreshing durations, trade off here is that you are sacrificing your self-healing to help heal an ally champion.

Life Scepter's gold increased to 2900 from 2700, Ability Power increased to 100 from 90

Too much "20% CDR"

These items are for supports and utility mages like Orianna and Karma (who can support too) which means that they consitute a lot of cdr which gives less opportunity to purchase other utility-core items that also have CDR.
