The Burst Age for League of Legends Straight Up is NOT fun to play in!

I do not like how anything and everything just vaporizes the instance you get near anyone on the enemy team, even tanks are dealing too much damage.

The best way to fix the current issue is remove armour, magic resistance, magic penetration of all kinds, lethality, armour shred, magic resistance shred, and armour penetration of all kinds.

In replace to the system, you give everyone a lot more base health. This adds more clarity to everyone as the damage their spells read is how much it is doing and % health damage is accurately doing what it is doing.

Now, you may ask yourself, 'What is the point to physical and magical damage split if everything is dealing true damage and true damage loses its purpose as well?' Well the substitute to the system is simply defensive items display how much % physical damage or % magical damage it is reducing rather than be a flat value, adjusted with each item and its cost of course, and more than likely have a hard cap for each value so players do not become immortal (let's say 60% is the hard cap for each stat - with damage reduction abilities an absolute hard cap of 90% or something) and true damage serving its purpose as always and be more clear of what it is doing - less damage, but ignores the physical and magical defense buffing items, making its identity clear as a late game value and against tanks that actually build these defensive items.

In other words, it makes tanks, well tanks with very high defenses and always relevant, but extremely low damage. While squishies remain squishy for their damage output, but no longer instantly die thanks to the massive increase to health pools and removed exploits of penetration stacking (assassins will receive new and more interesting effects to compensate, perhaps passive and/or actives on assassin items that deal bonus damage based on base health - makes it not oppressive early and still scale into the game somewhat, effective at killing the targets it is meant to kill).

Games like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has shown me that targets dying slower - and League of Legends has RPG elements in it so it applies somewhat - is more fun and satisfying from a gameplay level since you can use everything the game offers you to use, and when you over level and are too strong for that enemy then it is not as fun or satisfying since you two to one shot it and cannot use the fun elements to the combat system - plus showcases your skill better and successful attacks and abilities chaining just feels so good to use.

So yea, I do think making everyone tankier and not instantly die will make the game more fun overall and it will make tanks proper tanks again. They can absorb a shit ton of damage, but appropriately are not being slightly beefier versions of a ranged mage or marksman, very high defense for very low damage output - relying on their survivability and/or crowd control to get kills or allow their team to get kills.

The internet has too much whining and complaining lately with no feedback to actually help or improve on something. So I rather give suggestions to help the game be better for the future than call this a trash game, whine and complain, and say I will boycott it and never play it again until it is fixed (to be fair, I don't really want to play at the moment, I just wanted to play a few games as Neeko and new Nunu+Willump since I have not played them, they are very fun as support and I love their designs and personalities - further reworks and new champions need to go along these designs because it is the magic I want League to have since Runeterra is supposed to be the fantasy and magical world, and Neeko and Nunu+Willump really showcases this!)

Correction on one thing, I do want to play League of Legends because there are fun champions in the game - but then there are those that sap the fun for their presence like Draven, Caitlyn, Tristana, Lucian, Fizz, Yasuo, Riven, etc. - but the way the game is right now just makes it not fun, the high burst damage and instant deaths (does not matter if you play as a tank, you die almost just as fast) just makes the game not fun to play and removes the strategy of the game to winning teamfights and trying to coordinate to kill someone since everything just dies so quickly regardless.

So I will stay connected since I been here since season 1, but not really be playing or playing at all for the time being until the game overall is fun again and mobile champions and the super frustrating champions have properly been dealt with in some form (reworks, even if their numbers were gutted they still would not be fun to play against and destroy the fun of the game, so reworking them is the only answer with a focus of making them not draining the fun out of the game when playing against them).

Hope you all have a good day! LOVE AND PEACE!! [sg-kiko]

Riot doesn't care about fun anymore. They care about $$$$.

I mean. Riot let assassins cry their way into the meta. And this is the result.

Assassins need to be reworked into a broad category that splits into multiples:

Assassin being the broad term and in that:

Executors - Those that CANNOT get targets low, but are excellent at cleaning up the fighting and murdering low health targets. They do not have dashes, or rarely will have them, but they will have movement speed abilities that either chase down targets (like what Warwick) especially when the target is at low health values or able to quickly get to their target from an out of combat to combat state (like what Quinn has).

Disruptors - Those that make a target useless through single target crowd control. Blinds, disarms and silences will be very common here and damage-less suppression on occassion - blinds, silences, and disarms make you useless however and not adds to kill potential. They will feel more like a support-esq class or jungler (mainly support due to ability to protect and lack of kill potential), cannot do much on their own, but deadly with teammates or able to keep allies alive by making the enemy backline useless while your own backline does work.

Distractors - Those that cannot execute at all, but decent poke damage, rather than through range however it is trying to sneak around and get creative angles through the use of mobility. They slowly go in and out and skirt around the outside of the fight to chip away at their target(s) to make targets irrelevant not through brute force killing them, but by making them scared of death through making them low. They rely heavily on executors to clean up their kills or other members of their team.

By splitting up assassins into three categories, with Assassin being the broad term, it really balances them out and makes them serve an actual purpose and not feel bull shit to play against with a super mobile character coming out of no where to one shot you with no counter play. In general, the entire game is like this at the moment, but it is especially bull shit when it is a mobile champion doing it.

But yea, I think giving assassins a real purpose rather than overloaded kits will be healthier for the game and make them more unique and interesting to each other. You can do a lot more separating them into categories like this and really come up with creative new kits for players to enjoy and opponents to not rip their own hair out and quit the game over.

"Oh my goodness, how DARE you make my assassin cause me to actually THINK for once and use STRATEGY to win the game!!! HOW DARE YEEEE!!!!"

To be fair, only one out of three sub-classes is for dedicated supports or fulfill the same purpose. One is active mobility with skirting around, and dipping in and out with short ranged poke, using that mobility in substitute to long range poke champions - more risk for an easier time to land the poke, but need to be more clever to the gameplay. While the final aspect gets the glory of the kills like Darius, Quinn, or Warwick - I guess Pyke would be moved into more of an executor role for his balance.

I do think a majour assassin rework DONE RIGHT THIS TIME is desperately needed. Paladins is actually making significant changes to the game for their season 2 and 2019, so why cannot Riot who has a lot more staff, resources, and money at the ready better their game as well...

Because Riot is ran very poorly. Just look up the glassdoor reviews, they are a RIOT to read. Literally tells you why the company does nothing, bloat. Managerial bloat worse than the federal government.

No. What you suggested, especially with Disrupters, kills the reason why a lot of people play Assassins, and alters them to such a degree that you've killed off a portion of playerbase just because you just didn't like them the way they are. This is the same as what they did with Sion's gameplay, or Galio as a whole. There are people who still prefer Old Sion simply because of how he played. But instead of doing this to one champion, you'd be affecting an entire sub-playerbase.

Strawberrycocoa1 votes

I wouldn't lose any sleep over losing the sort of player that just wants to mindlessly spam killstreaks rather than focusing on larger gameplay objectives.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

You're biased. Just being an assassin doesn't mean you "Mindlessly spam killstreaks". What you're thinking about are Bronze players. Bad players. People who play the game to kill things. Yes, Assassins are the most likely to attract that crowd. But you're delusional if you think that what you said applies to all Assassin mains, despite the fact that what you said can apply to any champion.

True and because few got the patience and kindness to play Support (for long) in this game.

And you don't bitch when you get autofilled? When you practice everything but support exclusively you generally want to go anywhere but support to ensure that your team has the best chances of winning.

No. I don’t. Because I can play every role to an acceptable level. Sure my mid isn’t nearly as strong as my jungle, but I can easily do it without feeding out my ass.

This is the reason we had everyone screaming mid or feed before autofill. -.-

And let’s put it like this. Not feeding out your ass is the same in every role.

Śhunpo1 votes

Have you considered the fact that some players hate playing the role and should be forced to play it? It is a video game after all, so fun is definitely a step above competitiveness in terms of significance.

Some players, such as myself, do not enjoy playing support for whatever reason. That should be fine.

Okay? Then dodge and take your punishment.

Pyke is cancerous and was only made to appease the whiny %%%%s who want every their own way in a game they don’t pay for. If the game was a paid subscription based game, sure. Bitch all you want about “but I dun wanna play this one, I want the one everyone else wants.”

That’s like people who complain about ads on music apps, but don’t want to pay the subscription.

No, I queued up to play a game and I'm playing the game, I'm just going to try and ignore a bs mechanic put into the game by Riot.

I guess you're right about Pyke. I don't really care about him, he shouldn't have been released anyways. I'm an assassin main and even I hate him since he's braindead and poorly designed.

Totally agree with you. I've had many games where the jungler was bad: -No ganks to one or two lanes -Doesn't gank properly -ABSOLUTELY no objectives and can't even outsmite the enemy -Sometimes feed too much on the only lane they gank -Poor pathing that allows enemy junglers to clear our jungler's camps

and at the end they flame the support that missed one stun that would have "undoubtedly" won the game...?!?

(I don't have anything against junglers, it's just that this example came to mind)

Funny, I got absolutely shot down in the past for saying that assassins needed to be reworked into executors...

but I guess that people are finally starting to recognize how absolutely cancerous they've been to the game's design and balance in their current state.

Śhunpo1 votes

There's already an existing executor in the game, and it's Kat. Everyone besides her players hates her. This should tell you that "executors" are also not the right idea.

deadlychuck1 votes

Kat doesn't execute. The closest thing that they've ever had to "executioners" are the resets on CDs for some skills like Kat, Yi, or Missing health scaling skills like Garen ult.

Śhunpo1 votes

Read Voracity (her passive).

deadlychuck1 votes

[zombie-brand-facepalm]

Yes, it's almost like I mentioned this in the last response to you.

However, she's also given enough flat damage and designed around being able to actually burst people down from full health. Restricting this capability and back ending it to make that reset the focus of her kit, would make her an executioner.

Śhunpo1 votes

Yes, which is what she was pre-rework unless she got hyperfed. Honestly she defined the whole term "executor" pretty damn well until they reworked her.

Her passive is what gives her this whole "executioner" based playstyle in teamfights. If you don't think her passive alone gives incentive for this playstyle then I really don't think turning into a sub-class will ever work since your definition of executioner would have to be so convoluted it'd be unreal...

Śhunpo1 votes

See I would agree with this, however I think the whole "Me assassin me kill people" philosophy works much better, and it always has worked. That's what people pick assassins for, to be selfish pseudo solo carries who usually have a ton of mobility and means of elusiveness.

No counterplay.....I have to again disagree here. Outside of Rengar and LB every other assassin has a meaningful sense of counterplay. Hell, even pre-rework Kat had counterplay. The main form of counterplay is the fact that there are meaningful delays before you die that apply to every assassin not named Leblanc or Rengar, delays where you can Flash, have damage mitigation tools applied to you and where you can even possibly just turn on the assassin and burst 'em down. There are other forms, but that is definitely the main form of counterplay.

Examples for such forms of counterplay include Kat's dagger+Shunpo cast time, Akali's passive (she has to walk out first)+Akali's dash travel time+Akali's E cast time and missile speed, Zed's W travel time+Shuriken missile speed+Death mark delay, Talon's passive (bleed out)+Talon's W return+Talon's Q travel time, Evelynn's W cook time, Kha'zix's leap travel time.....and that's about it since the other assassins are blatantly unfair to play against when ahead; except for Akali since her rework is overpowered in every sense of the word.

The main thing to get from this is that most assassins do have counterplay, it's just that it's reaction-based. So in other words I guess the whole "git gud" ideology applies here. Either make every class have insane amounts of counterplay or don't have it at all, because it's not just assassins with this issue. ADCs are arguably the biggest offenders here, with autos that can crit., apply on-hit effects and whatnot that hit for over 800. Then you have mages where you get hit by one rogue skillshot and you usually die if they're fed/farmed. Then bruisers who 2-3 hit you with auto-based abilities (looking at you Camille and Darius).

The only real difference would be that other classes' counterplay are less about reaction time and more about general awareness. However, a lot of the time you simply cannot dodge their damage, you have to go about approaching the situation in a different way, which is exactly how people should look at assassins. If there's a 10/0 Rengar maybe farming a lane all alone away from your team is not the best idea. If there's a 25/0 xXKatMainXx and you're standing on a dagger maybe it's time to not do that again. If there's a-...you get the point. Not to play the victim card (too much) here but assassins do carry the hatred of the game like no other class does. Even if they have sub-40% win rates players will still hate them since they're usually the players that refuse to learn.

Now, to individually address your sub-class ideas I'd like to start off by saying that I personally hate sub-classes, I think that they cause more issues and are just convoluted as a whole.

Executors: Assassins that can never get their targets low but cleans....Then what's the point of picking them? Why would you not just pick a mage, bruiser or aggressive AD caster who does this better. Plus, wouldn't this class be equally as frustrating to play against due to the fact that they NEED to be able to clean up or they're overshadowed by other classes? Since I'm a Kat main (or was) I'll use her as an example for this point. Essentially you'd need to make Kat extremely mobile and her AOE would have to near undodgeable in order for her to function properly since this sub-class' goal is such a niche goal to fulfill in the grand scheme of things. Does this sound fun to you? A more mobile Kat that just insta-pops you and your whole team if you ever drop too low? Because that's quite literally what old Kat was like, only with this new one she'd have to be even better to be viable. Also, this sub-class really only applies to Katarina since every other assassin wants to 100-0 burst someone down.

Disruptors: This honestly just sounds like a tank-related sub-class. The only champions this sub-class could be applied to would be Leblanc and Pyke (mainly Pyke); maybe Ekko. My issues in regards to this sub-class would again be alluding to the fact that tanks and supports would outright thrash this class in terms of general performance and effectiveness. If you want a disruptor you would much rather have a 4k-5k HP Maokai than a 1.5k-2k HP "disruptor". I'm sorry to say but the only way to make an opposing backline useless without being a tank is to just kill them then and there. Even if you're a champ like Shaco or Leblanc you still want to have the threat of insta-dying to you still within the back of the opposing backline's mind(s).

Overall I don't quite like this sub-class, it feels too similar to tanks and supports and if this were ever to be implemented the champs in this sub-class would have to have their CC as targeted or so frustrating to play against in terms of duration and general mechanics that it'd be worse than what we have now.

Distractors: Again, why would you ever want this class when you can just pick a bruiser, tank or mage and do something similar. Assassins already do this for the most part, so I do not see the reasoning behind this sub-class. That's my overall opinion on this sub-class described in 2 sentences. But ok, if I had to describe this class further, Leblanc and Shaco. There, done. That's the class.

The entire premise behind the reasoning of each sub-class just seems like an excuse to turn assassins into a gimmick. Sure, I'd love it if assassins were more creative.....however I also love simplicity. I love champions that are easy to use and linear (so easier to counterplay) just as much as I love high skill-cap. adrenaline-fueled champions such as Riven who are hard to utilise effectively but aren't as linear. That's where and why I draw the line between what is necessary for the assassin class and what isn't. Turning every assassin into a complicated mess will just worsen the current design problems they already have following their reworks, and if I'm being completely honest; before the assassin update they were more healthy and balanced than they are now.

Furthermore, each sub-class just comes off as another main class but worse. Executors seem like worse mages, bruisers and fighters. Disruptors just outright sound like tanks and supports with more damage. As for Distractors, this sub-class sounds unique, however in actuality mages, bruisers and tanks are much better "distractors" than what you are proposing here.

Another issue this creates would be that in order to counter someone's backline you would need YOUR backline to do so. Since you're proposing that 100-0s would be a thing of the past for assassins, how would they fare against the opposing backline? I'll tell you how:

  • Executors would be unreliable and usually useless in most scenarios

  • Disruptors would just insta-die upon "disrupting" due to the general damage backlines possess

  • Distractors would just insta-die due to the same reason as disruptors

In order for the latter two sub-classes to work they'd either need to be tankier or they'd need to have pseudo tanking abilities which allow for avoidance of damage or damage mitigation. In both cases why would you just not pick a tank? Think about it, what are the reasons behind not picking a tank? Hell, even mobility is hardly a factor since tanks are actually quite mobile nowadays.

You'll notice that I only really noted down a few assassins as candidates for the new system, so I'll now take the time to explain why this system will not work for the rest:

Evelynn : Needs the 100-0 since she's too frail and once she breaks camouflage she either has to do her job, die or gtfo. Fizz : Same reasoning as Evelynn, too frail and the moment his mobility tools are on CD he dies, so the 100-0 is justified. Khazix : He could possibly be an executor, however he would be useless in comparison to other junglers then since it's such a competitive role and 1v1 fights happen quite a lot. Plus, he can't really "execute" a lot of the time due to the general CC and damage mitigation creep. Rengar : This entire system is just anti-Rengar since he fits into all 3 sub-classes. As for some actual feedback, if he's ever good at disrupting and distracting he builds tank items more than damage items, and that is honestly MORE unhealthy than his oneshot playstyle. Talon : Executor and Disruptor. With your proposed changes to the assassin class' identity and his current kit Talon would likely only be useful for one thing and one thing alone, killing one low target and yeeting the fuck out. That's not really exciting for the Talon player, nor is it exciting for his team since that'd be his only purpose, making him even less useful than he is now. Zed : These classes simply cannot be applied to him cleanly due to his Shadows being his primary identity and what he revolves his playstyle around.

In saying all of these examples this brings up another question, if they were to be redesigned to fit these classes, why would you just not build tank items on them as their primary build? I mean, if they're executors they'd be executing targets anyways due to base damage values. If you're a disruptor you might as well play it off as being a mobile tank that's more annoying. If you're a distractor you might as well play the part and build tank items to ensure that you actually do stall the backline long enough for your backline to shred theirs. I'm interested in your feedback on this point, since I don't see a comeback to this at all besides "make assassins rely on offensive items", at which point they'd have to oneshot anyways otherwise they're a useless class.

In general I really do not see these sub-classes ever working, there are too many obstacles.

Personally I would like just a 20% damage reduction to everything in the game. It would make it so much more fun to play.

Stacona1 votes

I think a change to the system overall would be better as it allows for fine tuning with outliers being too weak and too strong even with an overall defense overhaul.

Ifneth3 votes

Then all characters who rely on burst would suddenly become useless against anyone who bought health, which would be stacked by everyone, except one BORK-Rageblade Marksman on each team to melt these HP monsters.

It would be Sion vs Cho’Gath vs Mundo in both solo lanes, with Spirit Visage and Ninja Tabis being rushed into Warmog’s Armor by everyone involved, followed by three armor items. With the health totals and regen of this ensuing super-tank meta, all poke champs would also be pointless.

Games could last longer than they ever have, with long ones regularly lasting over an hour.

TheWizardM3 votes

Armor and Magic resist are already a representation of how much damage they reduce. Armor and Magic resist increase that champion's effective health by that % (so if someone has 30 armor you need to do 30% more physical damage to kill them). I don't support your suggested changes to armor and magic resist (as this only makes it harder to estimate how effective armor/mr is), though I do agree with removing base armor/magic resist and icnrease base health.

Shaydrox3 votes

I agree, but nearly everything these days does too much damage. I want to see tanks actually being able to tank damage, and assassins/burst mages have good burst, adcs have good dps etc. Sure, squishy vs squishy will always be a rather quick/high damage fight, but tank vs squishy or squishy vs tank shouldn't be that way.

UpDownLeftRightAB3 votes

Well, you can always just do what I did. Just not play the game the way Riot wants you to. Like...pick silly things, see if your opponent will not attack you and run up and emote on them, spend more time typing then fighting, only play normal blind in protest of ranked being crap this season, troll. While I do have the potential to get banned by some over endearing try hards, good riddance to this game then.

To any Rioter who sees this: Choke on it. You are the problem.

xLethal1 votes

Trolling is not the solution, not playing is a much more efficient way to protest this dogshit "damage" meta.

UpDownLeftRightAB2 votes

My method has fun involved. Not purchasing skins, boosts, champions is the most efficient way, but I haven't bought anything for years and that clearly does nothing and given the decline of the game, might as well have fun. Always, try to win, but trying is subjective. Take alistar top, run soraka mid, do something that YOU find fun and don't compromise for others, they should do the same and find what makes this fun for them. Will some games be stomps, yeah but they are already stomps, if winning is the only thing that makes this game fun, just quit. The game lost that unique feel per game where anything worked. Every game feels same if you follow the meta the Riot has established (Top 3 picks every position for ~15-20 champs TOTAL being played) since changing the design policy from being hands off on the meta to hands in every orifice. Why not try to get other players to lighten up and make the community better, we can at least enjoy each others company regardless of the state of the game. Heck, I played the whole season this way and still stayed gold, try harding in this meta doesn't make it any more fun and just adds stress. Rather than get stressed out over a video game, something that is supposed to be a stress reliever, actually use it for that. Play ARAM 24/7, custom game it up, normal blind pick is where you can get those fun mirror matches. I don't care. The point is to wrestle back control of the game from Riot, because their Riot games approved fun isn't fun and isn't what this game was founded on. I remember when Riot was a part of the community, not Riot and the community as seperate at odd entities.

xLethal1 votes

Your method has fun involved but it's less effective. If a significant number of players quit it will hit them where it hurts, money.

You realize by not purchasing anything that's the same right? Spreading the message to others to stop spending accomplishes that goal and it is easier to spread that message in game. "Don't buy anything from Riot games, they will just change it to something not worth the purchase later." I can say that EVERY game and I get positive responses. Just quitting stops the spreading of the message.

No trolling is actually a solution. It's not a direct solution, but it spreads the discontentment for the state of the game. If riot is forced to change the game, because people are upset (for any reason) and start quitting, then there might be a 50/50 chance that riot corrects things in the direction that the troll wants. Compared to if they simply go and complain about the damage, we're all aware of how little attention riot actually pays to the complains on the boards... If riot changes things in favor of these "trolls", then they stop trolling, which means that the other players see an improvement in the game quality, which sends feedback to riot that the changes they made are improvements.

So yes, trolling is objectively the best strategy to get riot to change the game in a way that you want.

Though calling it "trolling" might not be the best way to think of it... how about... activism. Trolling in league is like blocking a public road while protesting. The only difference is that this kind of activism is caused by people actually wanting to see change, not just trying to virtue signal and make a scene.

Just revert back to old runes.....That would fix the issue almost instantly.

The main problem with Tank Metas is the ongoing "Damage Meta" that keeps on persisting throughout. All champions in the game suffer from too much damage, too much mobility and just too much ease with connecting to and killing their targets. Damage needs to be reduced across the board.

Right now, the health pools are too low to properly balance the damage in the game, that is where the troubles are happening. The other half involving armour and magic resistance can be reworked to be a much simpler system and easier to understand by everyone, with it allows for tanks to always feel tanky when building their defense items.

Straight up, you can double the health pools of every single champion in the game, and from their see how things pan out in the next two or three patches and adjust accordingly, with tuning the extreme outliers of too weak or too strong.

Because right now we are using DECIMAL VALUES for damage tuning, that is not right, that tells me that the defense in the game is far too low and with higher health pools it makes it a lot easier for that fine tune balancing because you are working with bigger numbers and can make larger value changes at a time.

Recognize how crowd control durations have been getting lower and lower because time to kill is faster and faster, that is a sign that maybe we should slow down time to kill and allow for higher CC durations as well where appropriate.

I think removing pen, lethality, shreds, armour, and mr is better for the game and everyone starts with 0% mitigation and only worry about health. Having the items to give either physical damage reduction or magical damage reduction by % values, up to a cap from the items of like 60% and absolute hard cap of 90% when ability damage reduction gets added on if the champion has it (mostly only tanks get this).

Also tank meta has not happened in forever and I like them since time to kill slows down and makes it more fun, but the last tank meta was still pretty bursty so it was not as fun as it should have been.
