[Champion Concept] February MCCC Entry - Somnus, the Sleep Bringer

CrazedPorcupine·2/9/2015, 3:37:53 AM·3 votes·1,417 views

This is my entry for the February MCCC. My deadly sin that I'm picking, is SLOTH

Role: Tank, Secondary: Support

Stats: (adjusted according to the Riot formulas) HP: 550+60/lvl HP/5: 6+.8/lvl Mana: 350+45/lvl Mana/5: 5+.5/lvl Armor: 20+2.5/lvl MR: 30+1.25/lvl MS: 340 Range: 125/Melee Damage: 45+2.5/lvl AS: .625+1.5%/lvl

Description: Somnus Looks like the combination of a Manta Ray, a Lizard and a Bat. He has rear legs that he stands on and uses to launch himself from a resting position. His front limbs are stretched into a set of smooth wings that look like a manta rays, but have finger like hooks that he uses to latch onto targets and attack.

LORE: I'm exploring an ancient temple in the Shuriman desert. It looks nothing like the others. The ancient Shuriman glyphs show an image of a monster that is undescribable. The glyphs name this creature as Somnus.

Further in the temple, there is an alter. The glyphs around it state that an offering is needed to awaken Somnus, but they don't say what the offering is.

Upon further searching in the temple, It seems that the only offering one needs, is to simply sleep on the alter. Nothing is written about what happens, or what Somnus will do with the offering.

We have decided to present an offering, and capture Somnus for study back in Noxus. If we can capture this creature, and control it, not even Demacia's armies would stop us.

I will not live to see this expedition return to Noxus. Somnus is deadlier than we could have possibly imagined. We cannot stay awake when near it. When we fall asleep, he feeds upon us. He is slow. The people he feeds upon are not dead, but may as well be. Their sleep is permanent, and nothing will rouse them after Somnus has fed upon them. I grow weary and tired, Somnus is near. Maybe this journal will find it's way back to Noxus.

ABILITIES: INNATE - PASSIVE: Somnus exudes an aura around him, causing all Visible enemies within a 500 unit radius around him to gradually begin to slow down by 5/8/11/14% per second until they fall asleep after 4 seconds. Sleeping enemies will be awakened upon taking damage greater than 45 from any source with The Exception of Somnus's Dream Siphon. This Aura is NOT active when Somnus is stealthed (To help the fact that he can't just sit in a bush forever and not be able to be moved and constantly put enemies to sleep) How quickly enemies fall asleep is increased if Somnus does not move. falling asleep after only 2 seconds if Somnus has been stationary for the last 1 second. Enemies cannot fall asleep more than once every 6 seconds from this passive. Enemies wake up automatically after .75 seconds if they haven't taken damage.

Q: Sweeping Yawn Cost: 40/45/50/55/60 Mana Cooldown: 15/13/11/9/7 Seconds Somnus Releases a giant yawn sweeping around him, causing all enemies in the AoE to fall asleep for 1 second after a 1 second delay. Using this ability does not count as moving for the purposes of staying stationary for Somnus's passive. Deals 60/100/140/180/220 (+.4 AP) Magic damage Range: 300 (Sweeps in a 180 arc infront of him)

W: Great Leap Somnus Leaps a distance in a target direction. This distance is increased if Somnus hasn't moved in the last 4 seconds Cooldown: 20 Seconds at all ranks Range: 500/1000 units Cost: 60 mana at all ranks

E: Dream Siphon Somnus Siphons the dreams of all enemies afflicted with sleep near by Dealing 50/90/130/170/210 (+.3 AP) magic damage, healing himself for 5(+.05 AP)% of his maximum HP per unit affected. This damage will NOT wake up sleeping targets. Cooldown: 20/17/14/11/8 Seconds Cost: 50/60/70/80/90 Mana

R: Permanent Rest: Somnus instantly puts all enemies within 500 units to sleep for 1.5 seconds, and leaps to target champion, Supressing himself and the target for 2.5 seconds as he consumes their soul. IF the channel is completed, the target is left to sleep for another 2 seconds and this sleep cannot be removed by damage. Cost: 100/100/100 Mana Cooldown: 150/125/100 seconds

NOTES: Somnus is meant to be a return of the "PURE TANK" Archetype. As in, he won't deal much damage, but he will disrupt the enemy team quite severely if left alone and untargeted, forcing all enemies to run away from him if he leaps in and stands still, otherwise they'll just fall asleep and Somnus's team can just go in and pick whatever target they want.

Somnus also has the tools needed to get in and be disruptive, along with sustain to make him even MORE disruptive.

GAMEPLAY: Somnus works best down in the botlane as a tanky CC support. His leap+Yawn+Passive combo means that he can exude pressure on the lane just by his pressence. His low damage, and the fact that his CC is interrupted by Damage means that in order to achieve the best pressure bot lane, communication is key.

Late game, When Somnus has gotten more items, especially resistances and HP, He works incredibly well as an initiator and a counter initiator. By using his W to leap in, Ult and shut down the enemy carry instantly, he provides a perfect opening for his team. Should he get initiated on while his ult is on Cooldown, by simply not moving, he can stop the enemy initation, or use his Q. He also makes it very hard for people to kill him by simply standing still, he can then E and heal himself for a massive amount of HP, making him incredibly hard to take down, despite not dealing any damage.

As A pure tank, Somnus is meant to disrupt and create openings for his team, and NOT be able to fight one on one. His base stats for attack damage and speed are low enough that building him as a tanky bruiser won't work, and his AP scalings are so low that building Pure AP is pretty useless as well. Because he does have a very powerful heal, pure HP and resistances are stronger to build on him since it makes him last longer.

RECOMMENDED BUILD: Relic Shield+ 1 pot + 1 Ward + Yellow Trinket

Core: Merc Treads+ Face of the Mountain + SIghtstone+ Red Trinket

DEFENSIVE: SPirit Visage+Randuins+Frozen Heart + Warmogs + Locket

OFFENSIVE: Abyssal Scepter+Sunfire (Damage is just low enough with MR that it will never wake up enemy champions)+ Rylai's Crystal Scepter

CONSUMABLES: Stealth Ward+Vision Ward+Red Potion+Blue Potion+ Elixer of Iron

as for the MCCC Requirements: Somnus has: Name, Stats, Lore, Abilities, AND He gains bonuses when he stands still by making his passive make his opponents fall asleep faster, AND he gets to leap much further. Thus fulfilling the challenge requirement for the Sin of Sloth.

I like this idea, it reminds me a lot of dunsparce, haha. What is "sleep" though? is is like a stun, or exhaust, or some kind of debuff?
