Why the victorious skin is Graves

Let's look back to why any given champion is chosen to get the victorious skin.

They have to be a Prominent champion for most of the SPRING split. They have to be a champion that becomes prominent THIS season. They can't earn the Victorious OR championship skins.

We see that that most likely canidates would then be Ashe, Varus, Karma, Jhin, Kha, Lee Sin, Graves. Ashe and Karma got the Championship and Conquerer/Challenger skins, and they've been popular power picks for a while, same with Varus. So next up would be Jhin and Kha. Jhin was just far too new, and had already gotten the SKT world championship skin from last year, so even though he was popular, he was a late Season 6 power pick, and thus disqualified. Kha and Lee Sin have been Meta Jungle picks for years, and so they're both disqualified. That leaves Graves.

Graves hadn't been a big meta pick in years, and when he got his rework with ADC's, his jungle power stayed constant for a long time and was one of the biggest jungle picks through the entire spring split. When I think Season 7, I think back to Xayah/Rakan (Who were both far too new to receive the championship skin) and Graves. I don't think about Jhin, or MF, or anything else, I think back to the insane power of the Healthy clear, potent tower taking, and raw damage of Graves Jungle.

Other possible Canidates from throughout the season are Cait, Galio, Taliyah, and Leblanc and Cass or Syndra. But as we can no other champion really fits.

I think Orianna deserved it more

When you think of Season 7, you think of Graves? Come again. Graves doesn't even pop into my head when I think Season 7.

Shadòw10/6/2017, 6:59:17 PM12 votes

Graves was mostly last season too.

He heavily lost popularity over this season.

I feel like oriana and syndra would have deserved it more, they have been the most prominent and stable champs the whole season, that and that we are missing a mage to be our championship skin line. Elise doesnt count she is a "mage" cause she is an assassin and a tank too, in the jungle

Windoges10/6/2017, 7:54:22 PM8 votes

imo I was thinking orianna before the teaser

I feel like Victorious Graves would have been better released for Season 6.

It should have been Ori in my opinion.

why another jg champion getting a victorious skin

"Kha has been a meta jungle pick for years." wait, what? If you're talking strictly solo que, i could maybe see it, but after he got gutted in early S4 he was pretty much a dead champion at the competitive level for years. Spring split this season was the first time Kha had actually been good enough to draw consistent pick/bans in comp play in years.

Kixsy10/6/2017, 8:01:36 PM2 votes

Graves wasn't even that big of an influence in competitive during spring split this season.

http://www.gamesoflegends.com/tournament/stats.php?id=NA%20LCS%20Spring%202017 (I know this is only NA LCS, but take a look at other regions as well)

There was champs with higher influence in both Solo Q and competitive, so i'm confused as to why Graves is getting the skin and not someone else who was pick/ban, or had a huge influence in competitive games during this split. There's so many more champs who've had higher influence in games than Graves has this season, and he was barely picked at all during the Summer split. Really disappointing.

Thought team skins had 0 effect on champs earning other skins.

Hence why people were confused with the team skin for syndra the sg syndra within 6 months.

Graves!?......meh

Unvictus10/7/2017, 1:50:04 AM2 votes

Any and all of the mid laners you listed deserve it way more than graves. The champ doesn’t have to be a newly strong pick. They just had to be relevant. Let’s not forget not a single mid laner has gotten the victorious skin and its season 7 for goodness sake.

Janna would have been perfect if she diddint already have one.

EROTIC RAID BOSS10/6/2017, 10:26:00 PM2 votes

There's no rule that they have to be a new pick not seen in competitive before... Maokai got it last year after all.

They also owe it to mid laners to give them a skin for a real mid lane champ

While I like the post and the general nature of the argument, your getting a lot of hate and disagreement because you missed a key component in Riot's decision making process. They, Riot, made a clear and quite embarrassing oversight at the end of last season. They pegged the general player base as idiots and thought they could get away with recycling an old skin idea from the previous season (the Maokai Victorious skin). When I say recycled, it is widely believed that it was an alternative to the Sivir skin. It was also clear that season 6 was an aggressive jungle meta, with picks like Nidalee, Elise, Kha and Graves dominating the rift as well as some lee sin.

Nidalee was the obvious choice for victorious. No one would have complained if Karma got it. There could have been an argument for Graves, Syndra, or Ori also. Maokai was a joke. Irrelevant for the entire season. If you don't pick a people pleaser the community loses respect for the system as something that understands their thoughts, wants, concerns etc.

Sadly, since they f*cked up last season they couldn't go with something that made more since for this season so they had to choose something that was going to make a lot of people happy regardless of if it makes perfect sense in context of the season.

Maokai was a head scratcher last year. I like Graves but im really not sure why he's getting it

Looks like graves, but without a cigar. It's definitely a guy with a gun, so that limits the choices.

łnśane10/6/2017, 7:07:32 PM1 votes

It looks like someone shot someone's arm off. Such a weird angle for a guy to hold his gun while facing that way.[sg-lux-2]

Karma got the *conqueror skin

FIFY

Kanzler10/6/2017, 7:13:17 PM1 votes

No mask, cant be jhin.

I'd also like to point out that stockless shotguns do exist and while weird this skin seems to be a mix of chicago mafia, wolf symbols, and traditional mafia style hair? So probably graves especially considering the floating cinders.

Spice and Wolf10/6/2017, 9:26:38 PM1 votes

Say thanks that the victorious skin doesn't go to lulu or other stupid support with shi... Ardent cencer. I personally want this skin to go to Gangplank

General Esdeath 10/7/2017, 3:47:44 AM1 votes

It's going to be Lulu. A support.
