Quicksilver Armguard (Item Concept)

AP champions don't have a Quicksilver Sash upgrade item, and I really feel like they need one. AD champions being basically immune to cc while AP champions have to use an item slot on QSS and never upgrade it, so it doesn't help them at all other than the active, is just not something that should happen. So, I made a concept for a Quicksilver Sash upgrade item for AP champions. You can tell me all you want that, oh they have Zhonya's Hourglass or Mikael's Crucible, but neither of those can be used to stop cc on yourself. Neither can be used while cced. http://evalgan-art.deviantart.com/art/Quicksilver-Armguard-595613798?ga_submit_new=10%253A1457554551

So, let me first make my point a bit better. AD champions have all the protection they could want if they get caught. item 3053 , and item 3156 give them shields so they don't get bursted if they get caught and item 3139 makes them basically immune to cc. Some AD champions are dead regardless of these options to them if they get caught, while others can easily slip away, especially if they have flash. With nearly any AP champion, however, if they get caught, there's nothing they can do to survive. Say you're playing Syndra, and the enemy team has all the cc necessary to stop you from doing your job of 1-shotting the carry. In the time it takes for you to get close enough to do this job, you get cced to death by the tanks, and while the damage isn't specifically focused on you, by the time you're able to move your entire team is dead. AP champions have absolutely no counterplay at all to crowd control, and while you can say that crowd control is their primary way to be shut down, AP champions are much easier to build against. Maw gives the person they want to 1-shot a good sized shield to stop them, Banshee's Veil gives a ton of magic resistance and a magic damage shield, and MR is in total cheaper than AD. 900 gold worth of Magic Resistance is 5 more MR than 900 gold worth of armor, which is a pretty good amount. There are better Magic Resistance items than Armor items, and AP champions don't have as good Magic Penetration items to let them do their work to AD champions and Armor Penetration.

Build Path: Seeker's Armguard (1200 Gold) Quicksilver Sash (1300 Gold) Amplifying Tome (435 Gold) +665 Gold combine cost = 3600 total cost

Stats: +80 AP +45 Armor +50 Magic Resistance Active: Remove all debuffs on the user and make him immune to movement impairments (slows, stuns, taunts, fears) for 1 seconds (90 second cooldown) Does NOT block or cleanse knock ups and does NOT block suppresses (will still cleanse suppresses, though)

Total stat worth: 3540 I hope this item is balanced and that at the very least it tells Riot to make an AP version of Mercurial Scimitar.

Too high stats, If an AP gets it he/she will destroy entire team. All aps will be called as BRUISER AP.

I would say give ~50AP, ~40MR and QSS. It'll be a good item to compete with item 3001 . Any item giving MR+Armor with so much power is OP, plz don't ask for it.

I was also thinking that the AP on it was too high, but I didn't really want to lower it. I kinda also want to make a different one that's just Hextech Revolver + QSS, being Quicksilver Revolver instead of Armguard, and that would be cheaper, only give Magic Resist and AP, and still have the active. I just didn't want to give it less AP because I was going based on cost efficiency for it.

item 3001 is pretty cheap 2300. considering it gives AoE flat Armor pen, 70AP, 50MR. If AP QSS has to be cheap then it it can be similar as 70AP, 50MR + QSS and no passive for ~2400

HexTech Revolve + QSS , It will be abused, it'll be AP item 3153 in someway. I can see Malzahar Fiddlesticks Morgana Akali Katarina FIRST ITEM.

I can't make the item cheaper than its components. Because of that, it would probably cost 3000 gold, again cheaper than it currently is, but not by much. It also would be expensive enough to offer some decent stats. There's no way a QSS upgrade for anything would cost 2400. QSS itself costs 1300, Revolver 1200, making the BARE MINIMUM cost of the item be 2800, and that's not a very high combine cost. At 3000, I could give it some AP, probably around 70-80, some MR, probably around 50, and some spell vamp, probably 15% (no more than Revolver offers), and I could also give it the QSS active without it being too overpowered. Without spell vamp and the active (mostly because I'm not sure what to use to calculate gold efficiency for them), the item would be worth 2640 with 80 AP and 2422.5 with 70 AP. I would say that that's justified, the item costing around 500 gold more than the efficiency of the stats because of the spell vamp and the active. It would be even more literally an AP version of Mercurial Scimitar, which now offers lifesteal as well.

Also, how would giving it spell vamp make it AP BoRK? AP BoRK (well, more hybrid BoRK) is Hextech Gunblade. This variant of the item shares next to nothing that would make it the AP equivalent of BoRK at all. AP and Spell Vamp instead of AD and Lifesteal. That's pretty much as close as this is going to get. Whereas Gunblade also has the exact same active, just tuned for flat magic damage instead of % max health true damage.

I would like to make it cost 3600 (the same as Mercurial) but I can't see a way to do that without making it OP with the items I have to work with to have it build from. Quicksilver Armguard is probably the closest I'm going to be able to get to the item cost I want without it being too broken, but I will admit that even the concept for Armguard I have is a little bit too strong.

That's true, without %health damage it is not AP BoRK. If AP QSS is gonna cost 3600, i do rather grab item 3285 oritem 3116 they are much more cost effective and utility.

Unless that item is giving stats similar to item 3089 . Atleast 100AP, QSS, passive Spellvamp + passive MS + passive (team MR ~15 or passive AoE ~20 AP Pen).

Yeah, and it just isn't easy to make an item that can compete with those that costs 3600 and build from at least Revolver and Sash. For it to have 100 AP, it would have to, like the rest of the 100 AP items, have a Needlessly Large Rod, and the total cost across those 3 items is 3750, making it cost more than I want it to. With the items I have to work with, I can make a 3000 gold item building out of Revolver + Quicksilver + 500G combine, but I can't make it cost any more than that without being able to give it strong enough stats to compare to other items that are similarly priced, which would require me to make it at least 4000 gold, making it the most expensive item in the game, and I would have to overload it to justify it being that expensive with more than just its build path to make people actually buy it. In the case of it being overloaded, now every champion in the game who can make use of it suddenly becomes broken and it becomes a rush or you're a noob item on any AP champion, and the strongest abusers of it become pick or bans. The 3000 gold item is as close to what I want that I can make. That also makes AD champions with decent enough AP scalings to justify them buying it over Mercurial stronger because it's a whole 600 gold cheaper than Mercurial and has a decent build path that champions who like spell vamp can abuse. It would certainly put things like AP Lucian and AP Ezreal into the meta as strong picks for against high cc comps because of how cheap the item is. Maybe I can make it cost 3600 and add in a Blasting Wand to its build path and give it a decent passive that wouldn't make it too overloaded, but would justify it still only offering 80 AP?

80 AP is pretty decent and justifiable. What about the passives, active and unique passives. Can it have a good unique passive?

Brutalitops011 votes

For costing 3600, it would need to have a strong passive to make it justified. It would certainly have unique passive +15% spell vamp so that you can't just stack 6 of them and get 90% spell vamp, that would be just a bit too broken. I'm also thinking something to do with magic resistance for a second unique passive, but I can't think of anything that isn't either too op or hasn't already been done on an item before. I could do converting MR to AP, but then the item becomes completely broken on anyone like Galio or Vladimir, who can stack MR and be good. There's also the possibility of an AoE MR reduction on enemies or an AoE MR gift to allies, but both of those are on items already. It would need to have something good to make up for the lack of AP. Rabadon's Deathcap costs 3800, and that's one of the strongest AP items in the game for just raw damage. Luden's and other items that offer 100 AP cost only 3200, making this item 400 gold more than them and 20 AP less. Even with a QSS active on it, I just don't think that cost is justified without throwing on there a nice passive as well. Maybe make it the other way around, instead of MR to AP, convert a small amount of AP you get to MR? Something like 20% of AP?

Wenderwall1 votes

Have been thinking for a while, will this pure AP mazes item or AP support or AP carry item. I don't see it being used by sup so AoE MR or AoE AP pen won't be good. Giving 20% AP like Rabadon will certainly be OP. I was thinking if QSS active can be made passive with 60sec CD.

It's both good and bad. Bad becuz every soft CC will get debuffed .Good as it'll be against item 3143 ,item 3092 item 3116 etc while giving MR+AP. Will have to test it's effectiveness thou'

QSS active but on a passive with a 60 second cooldown is literally Banshee's Veil passive. I want to keep that part on an active, under the player's control when to use it. Which is why I'm thinking converting AP to MR at a small rate, so that way you can get a good amount of MR from the AP you'd be building. Also, I realize that a 20% scaling is way too high now. 10 or even 5% would be far more justified with how easy it is to get 6-700 AP in a game.

Wenderwall1 votes

If Fizz get's this item, and usually ends up with >400AP with 5% MR scaling. Will it be 20bonus MR, that doesn't look bad.

The reason why I said passive is Veil is mostly ( like always) used by Tanks or AD Bruisers. For AP veil is totally useless and mazes aren't usually CC targets. If it is passive Mazes (or AP sup) don't have to worry abt all the extra Active triggers they have to keep track of . As an AP Sup, I end up with 4 or 5 active items and have to click >4 keys in team fight all under 2 sec.

Brutalitops011 votes

I usually build Veil if I'm against someone like Leblanc, a combo based champion that you need MR against. Banshee's Veil is a pretty good defensive item on pretty much everybody if you need to survive an AP combo champion's combo of doom. This is mostly designed for mages to get to be able to escape something like a Malzahar combo or something else that's bringing in death by cc. If it's passive, you can't make a choice of which cc you want to cleanse, you just cleanse the first one you get hit by. Making it passive doesn't fix the issue I'm trying to fix with this item.
