*Keizel's art is up to date - enjoy!

Lore:

Keizel's medical supply route had led him through the infamously dangerous mountain paths along the timberline of Mount Targon. He led his wagon beside the creek aloft the ridge - only for the deep mud to claim hold of his right wheel. His steed grew restless, and broke free - vanishing into the thick brush and woods. This sudden mishap left him alone in the wilderness - amidst the eerie silence, the grey of the mountain, and the misty, olive-toned skies. The roads were narrow, and so was his waning patience - for a young girl in the next village desperately awaited her doctor's return, and he was nowhere in sight. He cursed the mountain - his frustration fled his lips and echoed to the misty mountain peeks with a shrill and desperate cry.

"Why must you hinder me so? My task is of the utmost importance. Have you no mercy?!” It was in this moment when he heard the feint puttering of a nearby pattering of wagon wheels against the road. Perhaps it was a passing merchant? Seeking potential aid, Kaizel stepped out into the road to discover it was no merchant at all.

Before him stood a spectral beast - that of bone, metal, and tattered cloth. It pulled an unearthly vessel - atop of which was seated a wraith-like specter that gazed upon him with green, soulless eyes. The wraith was shrouded in rolling plumes of cursed, green pyre.

"You are an agent of death's employ, I presume?" Keizel remarked. "All have their different names for me." The wraith retorted. "I am a collector of debts - those which cannot be bartered with mere gold or trinkets." "I would hope a fellow man of the cart could help a traveler in need." Keizel urged him. "Step aside." The wraith growled disdainfully. "There is a dying child down this slope. I am here for a . . . Collection." "As it so happens," Kaizel blurted, placing his boot on the wagon’s wheel bearing, "We share a common destination, but I no longer have a steed of my own, and am stranded all alone here. I fear, O phantom, that I am already too late for her. If you will it, I will take her place at your side, and save you the trouble. You were but a man once - I hope you can find it within you to allow me this final act of charity." The wraith seemed hesitant, but then reluctantly sighed.

"So be it."

Kaizel bowed in gratitude, stepped into the chariot, and took a seat. He became bound to it with an ethereal energy that grasped him with a cold and dark force - his soul and body had been captured by its spell. In a moment of panic, Kaizel asked the wraith one last favor before the chariot completely bound his essence.

"If I am to never leave your clutches, can you at least bring me my things? My medical practice was my life - as vein as it may seem."wraith huffed, "So I now owe you this favor - though is the last you shall ever receive."

The wraith approached Kaizel's sunken cart, and began to load his belongings into the side of the ethereal cart. This process repeated several times until the phantom turned its back one last time to return to the mud. Kaizel suddenly brandished his whip, and lashed it against the back of the fiendish steed before him, and it took off with thecart at speeds previously unknown to him - vanishing into a veil of thick fog. Kaizel has never seen the wraith since.

Soon after, an anonymous gift of supplies arrived in the next town further down the road. Keizel's delivery founds its way to the hands of the sick young girl's family - though he could not leave his deathly bonds to see to her personally. Thus, speculation ensued for many years. Many claim this deed to be the whim of local benefactors or noblemen, but those who know the tales believe that Keizel still makes his rounds - even as the centuries continue to pass.

After this first delivery, he returned to the mountainside - where he has wandered the misty roads ever since. They say the crack of his mighty whip is the thunder that brings rain to the forests below Targon. Forever bound to his new vessel, he graces the land in times of turmoil - concealed within a thick veil of fog. Keizel's work remained at the center of his life, even after life itself.

"As a man of medicine, My job is to keep Death at bay . . . so I have commandeered his steed." -Keizel

Summary: Keizel is roadside medic who stole the chariot of a Death Specter. He is a man of the cart, with a trusty whip, and plenty of heart (Hey that rhymes!). He wears a wide-brimmed canvas hat, a long overcoat, and sits inside of a small hansom-style carriage. It seems to be pulled by nothing at all, but inside of fog, the ghoulish creature that pulls his wagon is revealed in an astral form.

  • Health: 420 (+95 per level)
  • Health Regen: 6.12 (+0.55 per level)
  • Mana: 200 (+42 per level)
  • Mana Regen: 6 (+0.7 per level)
  • Movement Speed: 325
  • Attack Damage: 50 (+2.5 per level)
  • Attack Speed: 0.625 (+3% per level)
  • Attack range: 450
  • Armor: 12 (+0 per level)
  • Magic Resist: 30 (+0 per level)

Keizel’s Design Philosophy:

Keizel, bare with me, is an AD-scaling bruiser support with a stealth mechanic. His strategy relies on placing healthpacks for his team, and guarding their position with his powerful whip attacks. He can sneak around enemy positions to deliver damage and CC, and set up directional fears towards his team to secure one or more targets. When it comes to team fights, Keizel can get around to his fellow teammates in need with the speed of his trusty steed (all the rhymes, lol), and set up a temporary healing sanctuary amidst the battle. When trouble breaks out, Keizel is certainly the guy you call in to help even the odds.

Abilities:

Passive.) Ruthless Wrangler Whenever Keizel basic attacks a slowed, feared, rooted, or stunned enemy, the attack deals 2.5x his standard attack damage. Once this passive is used on a target, it cannot affect that same target for another 12 seconds. *This attack cannot critically strike.

Q.) Gift of the Benefactor Kaizel drops a single medpack in an area around him. Its health benefits scale from Kaizel's Maximum health. These packs may be convenient, but they can also be picked up and used by the enemies. Enemies, will only receive 50% of their health benefits.

*Keizel can have a maximum of 3 placed at any given time.

  • Health given: 15/20/30/60/100 (+4%/5%/6%/8%/10% maximum health)
  • Mana cost: 70/70/75/80/90
  • Cooldown: 14/13/12/10/8

W.) A Most Unnatural Haste Passive: when Keizel is out of combat for more than 8 seconds, he gradually gains a 50% boost in movement speed over the course of the next 4 seconds. This speed buff lasts until Keizel enters combat; IE, is damaged, or attacks an enemy/neutral unit. While this speed is active, Keizel can still cast Q or W, and still maintain this speed.

Active: Keizel fades into a small plume of dark smoke over the course of 1.5 second(s) - becoming camouflaged for a short time. While camouflaged, Keizel can freely pass through friendly, neutral, and enemy units. If Keizel uses any ability or an item active, he becomes visible again, and cancels this ability's duration.

  • Duration: 2.5 second(s)
  • Mana cost: 90/100/120
  • Cooldown: 20/19/18/16/14

E.) Unrelenting Maelstrom Keizel lashes his whip repeatedly in a cone-shaped path for a few moments. The path of this attack aims in the direction that Keizel is currently facing. Any enemies caught within this AoE are feared in the opposite direction. The damage is distributed into 5, mild instances of damage over the course of the ability's duration.

  • Range: 450 long, 450 wide
  • Fear duration: 1.25 second(s)
  • Damage per strike: 10/15/25/45/55 (+10/15/20/25/35% AD)
  • Mana cost: 70/75/80/90/90
  • Cooldown: 14/13/12/11/10

** R.) The Fog Cometh** Keizel generates a circular AoE of fog around his current location, which lingers in that set position (acting like the fog of war). All allies can see inside and outside of this particular fog. Enemies cannot see what is inside of the fog, unless they enter it – in which case they then loose vision of what’s outside of it. While Keizel stays within his fog, the cooldown of his “Gift of the Benefactor” (Q) is reduced to 1 second (which cannot be impacted by any additional cooldown reduction). Each time he places a healthpack, the mana cost increases by increments of 60 mana. Keizel can reset this by waiting until this ultimate is over.

  • Cast time: 0.5 second(s)
  • Duration: 5.25 seconds
  • Diameter: 1000
  • Mana cost: 120/120/130
  • Cooldown: 120/110/90

*This ability poses an interesting risk/reward gamble for the enemy team. They can either sneak into the fog to snag some health packs while their enemy is vulnerable, or they could potentially be walking into a devastating trap.

Ability Synergy:

Keizel has a unique opportunity as a support champion that also has stealth, since he can sneak out of jungle to assist his team. With the speed buff of his passive W, and then using his active before an engage, he can ult (The Fog Cometh) amidst his team to make a sudden plume of fog, or he can appear with an E (Unrelenting Maelstrom) to deliver damage and directional CC. Keizel, in lane, has the opportunity to use his active W (A Most Unnatural Haste) to sneak behind his enemies, and then drive them towards the rest of his team with an E (Unrelenting Maelstrom). Keizel can also use his various whip attacks to deter his enemies from entering his healing pack zones, be it his standard healthpacks, or his fog. His directional fear with E (Unrelenting Maelstrom) is a powerful tool for wrangling enemies in a certain direction.

Keizel was a bit of a challenge thematically, but he was one of the more interesting characters I've worked on. I have 4 more concepts in my creative pipeline with full kits already finished, and 2 newer ones with partial concepts fleshed out. I'll hopefully be putting them up in the coming weeks.

When I first saw this champion and the premise (a chariot bruiser with stealth capabilities) I was very excited. The art, as always, is lovely. However, this excitement quickly faded as I went down the kit.

Firstly, his base stats are garbage. Literal garbage. He would have the worst base health, mana, and armor in the game, and his range, attack damage, and movement speed are pretty laughable as well. This would be fine if he had some wierd innate that gave him stats somehow, or he gains a lot of stats from his abilities. I get that he gets movement speed from his W, but Warwick does this better while already having a better base movespeed. Given that he would naturally have an ostentatious hitbox, his poor bases only hurt him further.

Secondly, Keizel has got to have one of the most convoluted thematics I have ever seen. I can get behind the ghostly chariot guy, but he drops health packs? And has some wierd interaction with fog......he's trying to be too many things at once - a roamer, a bruiser, a jungler, a support, a marksman. You need to pick a thematic to get behind because right now he's this wierd chimaera of a lot of different things that pull his kit in different directions. On to the kit.

I think the passive could have been WAY more interesting if it would instead apply to allies (in that he can auto allies to give them a burst of movement speed). Now that I think of it, I could do a kit based around that. Otherwise, I can see where this would lead to problems on its own, however. Keizel doesn't have any CC for himself besides his fear (and that requires a channel during which he can't auto them), and so he relies heavily on his allies a la Yasuo but doesn't get as much bang for his buck. The damage early if paired with someone who has CC would be pretty gross, since he could auto you for 125 damage level one on base AD alone. It would be better if you juiced up his base AD but made his passive scale. Like most of Keizel's kit, it suffers from being fairly bland and not very thematically appropriate (of which the thematic is already muddled).

The Q is just wrong on so many levels. It's a glorified Bard shrine that doesn't even give movement speed or increase in power. He just drops it and its there, and what's worse, enemies can use it. Why? It's already so lackluster, costs a ridiculous amount of mana, and unlike a lot of Q abilities gives him no combat effectiveness. It would be a bad first level as opposed to his E and is easily exploited by enemies. I understand you want Kaizel to be a wandering medic who stole the Death Chariot, but that thematic just doesn't work. His W is much more interesting and exciting, and one of the only things in his kit that should be explored further. The passive is just a more mediocre Blood Hunt and the stealth is laughable. 1.5 second channel for 2.5 seconds of stealth? Twitch's Q does this abilities' job better in basically every regard. Since nothing about it scales, there is no reason to ever put a point into it. Kaizel should be built around the thematic of the ghostly charioteer, instead of his bizarre health pack gimmick. His E has good damage and the fear is useful, but a guy that is designed for moving around and dropping heals standing still to channel is a bad move IMO. His R would be fun in a gameplay sense but like most of Kaizel's kit just falls flat on its face thematically.

There's nothing broken or unfair about Kaizel, which is more than I can say for most of the contestants. In fact, he's actually pretty mediocre, and doesn't really offer anything new or interesting, outside of perhaps his ultimate. Kaizel suffers from having a potential thematic so strong and interesting, that it completely overshadows his bland and hodgepodge kit. I would really enjoy seeing Kaizel again in a different incarnation, but for now I'm just a little dissapointed, because Izol and a lot of others were such masterpieces. Good luck to you in the CCOS and I look forward to what you can do in the future.

Sense you did the luxury of dropping a review on Niado, I am going to due you a solid and give one back. Hopefully this will actually help seeing another persons perspective. Anyways enough waiting, lets see Keizel has in store.

Lore I will admit the lore is a tad bit out there in my eyes. Mainly this is due to League already having a character based of death lore wise, that being Kindred. Though lets put that aside for a moment and focus on the story as if Kindred didn't exist. So while in premise the story itself could be a good one. Now I know this isn't a writing contest, but I feel as though this death wraith was far too easily convinced and easily manipulated when beings like this shouldn't be so. I would give the dead a bit more credit but that might just be me. In concept of a doctor who stole death's ride, is unique. I do get a Indiana Jones vibe seeing as he does carry a whip.

Passive Alright so for his passive I do have one word, Ouch. 2.5% damage is basically critical damage with an Infinity Edge even though the attack can't critically strike itself. That brings with it a lot of early game damage that can actually be brought forth pretty easily as the enemy only requires to be slowed. Imagine being paired against him and Ashe and at level 1 you get chucked by just two basic attacks. While it can work for what you are trying to accomplish with a AD Bruiser support, I feel as though it has too much power to it. Sure there are limitations on it, though having 2.5% increased damage on that attack at level 1 is a bit much. Late game sure it does its job well, but you should consider having the percentage start lower and scale through levels.

Q The Q does match the doctor side to him. Being a doctor I would expect him to want to help his injured comrades. I do like it as it isn't an instant heal but it requires his other allies to pick it up. It gives him the ability to roam and support his lane. Having enemies be able to pick up the pack too and be healed by it, well that can be a bit trollish if I do say so. Imagine Keizel supporting not only his team, but the enemy as well. If you want to keep this feature I don't mind, but what I suggest is give a benefit to his allies picking it up. Either that or reduce the effectiveness of the packs given to enemies.

W The passive portion for this ability definitely suits a roaming style of play. This is just me, but you might want to consider lowering the amount of time it takes to get the bonus movement speed. 16 seconds to get max speed seems like forever in game. The active portion is a bit odd to say the least. Camouflage and stealth is usually a mechanic brought forth by assassins. Its a bit conflicting to the bruiser support in my eyes. I will admit it does match the characters thematic well. Gameplay wise is just feels out of place.

E This ability honestly isn't bad. It provides CC that can drive enemies into his team if his positioning is good. I can see how the W does work well being able to sneak up on opponents. One thing I did notice is that it does hit 5 times. Now I don't know how long the duration for the whipping is, as it isn't actually mentioned. Though I am a numbers guy and I did some calculations on the damage. At max rank this will be doing 325(+275% AD) max damage to multiple targets. Assuming this is physical damage sense he does scale with AD. Plus with a fear on top of the strikes, they will be at least hit by multiple whips. This is a lot of damage out to multiple targets for a basic ability, just wanting to mention that.

R Now I really like this ultimate. The ability to grant an anti vision zone is something that I have experimented with in the past. Being an ultimate I would assume that the fog would disable ward vision within its range am I correct. Cause being denied vision is extremely strong as allies can use this as a pseudo Akali shroud. In truth I do really like is as it hasn't really been seen in league yet. Good work for this ability.

Overall Some of the aspects of the character feel odd. Maybe this is just my opinion. You want him to be a bruiser support yet this kit dictates a roaming stealth medic. When I think bruiser, I think of person who is in your face dealing damage that thrives more in the thick of combat then out of it. Character wise, the doctor who stole deaths horse is unique and you get points for that. Just I don't see this character going off as you first labeled him. The kit itself does have some things that I enjoy, the ultimate especially. Some tuning should bring this concept in a better position as I believe more is available for Keizel here then meets the eye.

Really? 3 downvotes in the first 9 minutes? I call shenanigans.

Bobo1132/16/2017, 5:14:18 PM1 votes

I also added some of my most current balance changes - including:

  • nerfs to E,
  • buffs to W,
  • some general clarity all around

I also added a splash of all of my champions together in a group photo (See the "Some Behind the Scenes Stuff" tab).

Ýones3/10/2017, 10:16:24 PM1 votes

For some reasob I hadn't seen this concept until now, I think the art is great, I also do art for my concepts (check out Ogon, I even drew a splash art for him).

Quick thought: When I saw this art, I immediately thought of a champ who carries allies with him in his caravan. This art actually inspires me for some ideas for maybe even a new concept.

Bobo1132/15/2017, 11:21:35 PM1 votes

Keizel's art is finally here! Woooot!
