Lore:
"In order to break your limits, you must find them first." -Hoette
The Citadel Guard were once a proud and mighty force, whose swords served the high echelons of Demacian justice. Far from the glistening capitol, these brave men and women manned the mountain posts on the outskirts of their land. They were often set on missions well beyond their sovereign borders - often against insurmountable odds. The bravest amongst the Citadel Guard were often granted armor and weapons made from enchanted quarry stone - a nearly indestructible material, but since it is much heavier than steel, it required tremendous strength to wield. These stone-clad soldiers fought rigorously in the most hostile conditions, and much like the mountains themselves, they learned to weather any challenge.
Amongst the elite ranks of the Citadel Guard was High Commander Hoatte, the standard-bearer, a man of dignity and chivalrous martial tradition who held honor and glory above all else. He was regarded with the utmost respect by both his legions and his country. Throughout his years of service, Hoatte had been granted more stone artifacts than any guardsmen in history, and his list of accolades were too numerous to count. It was by his thunderous might that the of lands of Demacia were kept safe, and its enemies kept at bay.
Until one fateful day . . .
Hoatte stood steadfast atop the high rampart wall - deep within a jagged mountain pass. As the wind roared past him and his banner sway violently, he knew a fell storm would soon take the horizon. The enemy drew near.
He faced the cold breeze with a hardened grimace.
"This again." He snarled as he adjusted his helm. He held his massive stone blade on high - hoisting the Demacian banner high and proud. Much to his surprise, none of his battalion rose from the barracks to meet his call to arms. "Infantry, assemble!" He barked. "Archers to your posts! The enemy approaches from the east!" His orders fell mute upon the rocky pass. The barracks and archer towers remained silent.
Deeply troubled by the lack of commotion, Hoatte descended to the ground below, leaping from the rampart wall, and sliding against the stone bricks - his stone armor gnawing at its surface as he fell. Once he came to the bottom, he stumbled to his feet, tightened his grip on his massive stone blade, and braced it in front of him.
"Alright," he grunted, "If it is me you want, them come and get me."
His challenge was met with nothing but silence. He was utterly alone. Not even the light pattering of debris would stir the quiet, looming air.
Then suddenly, the air in front of him began to contort and twist into a rift in space. A faceless, hooded figure emerged from its center - coated in golden embroidered robes and ornaments. Two identical creatures joined by its side - hovering towards Hoatte.
"What are you fowl creatures?!" Hoette hollered. The figures stopped.
"It appears you cannot remember." The mysterious figure bellowed in an ethereal tone. “I see time has finally run its course . . . your sentence is therefore over."
"Sentence?" Hoatte was bewildered. "What sentence? What do you mean?"
"You agreed to a deal, of which the price was your own men." The figure explained. "Upon your last victory, you ventured to an outpost tavern with your closest commanding officers. Over tankards of Mead, you boasted that your Citadel Guard would last longer than the very mountains upon which you stood. We timekeepers do not take lightly to such claims. Therefore, we held you to that bet, a bet that you accepted gleefully. For two hundred years, you have existed within this limbo between time and space. – a prisoner of your own pride – here to outlast the mountains. . ."
"No. . ." Hoette lamented. "This cannot be. There must have been something I could have done."
"There was." The figure assured him. It then pointed to a heavily-damaged mountain range in the distance. "In a clever turn of events, you were attempting to destroy the mountains you claimed would crumble before your legions would. Day after day, decade after decade, you continued your reckless assault on the stone – each swing chipping away at a part of yourself in the process. After the taste of dust and callused hands became all you knew, concepts of time and memory had long faded. It would seem the years were more than your mere mortal mind is equipped for. Despite a valiant and rather impressive effort, it appears that you have broken first."
Hoette sank to his knees. He had never known such sorrow.
“They have long since passed, have they not?”
“Much has changed.” The figure stated. “And so have you. You have paid the price for your headstrong ways, Hoatte the crag-breaker. I shall take you to your men. . ."
The world around Hoette began to warp into an amorphous mess of color and sound that swirled at a blinding speed. This vortex soon dissipated – revealing the same place we was standing, yet it was now sunset. The blazing light shown radiantly amidst the distant peaks, which stood tall once more. The once pearly rampart walls behind him lay cracked and riddled with lichen - a forgotten sepulcher of wars long past.
It was then that he looked towards the ground before him. There, scattered about the field of stone, were a graveyard of stone, citadel blades now angled into the ground - a silent epitaph of the Citadel Guard’s last great stand within the mountain pass. The timekeepers had indeed brought him to his men.
“I should be among them.” Hoette thought. His grief took him – his heart plunging to uncharted depths. From deep within his own toil, however, his thoughts began to fester. “If I would not have run my mouth, I may have been there that day, but I would have been among them now.” His eyes widened. His sadness had become a sense of opportunity that swelled within him. He took note of how the sunlight felt against his face, and the long-lost sound of birds. Though he must live with his follies for the rest of his days, he had been given a second chance.

Hoette's Design philosophy:
Hoatte is a tank/vanguard who graces his team with the might of his unwavering, monolithic blade. He can either enter the fray and personally break the enemy lines, or he could lend his strength to a worthy teammate. He still continues his commanding position amidst a team of equals - as he can both lead and mark a team charge while invigorating his brothers in arms with the might of Demacian glory.
Abilities:
Passive: Critical Mass
Hoette's maximum health increases his chance to critically strike (1.5% per 100 health).
Each time Hoette would critically strikes an enemy, the attack instead sweeps the area twice in a semi-circular AoE in front of him - striking with two separate instances of damage each equal to a standard auto attack (but with the potential to strike multiple targets in a smal AoE). The delay between these attacks is impacted by Hoatte's current attack speed (160% of total attack speed)
- AoE radius: 200 (half-circle)
*On-hit effects apply to the first instance of damage.
Q: Rush of Courage
Hoatte leaps with his massive blade, and smashes the ground in front of him (linear skillshot dash). All enemies stricken at its landing point are also slowed for a short time.
Jump range: 400
Landing impact AoE: 300 long, 150 wide
Slow: 40% for 1 second(s)
Damage: 10/30/55/75/100 (+40% AD)
Mana cost: 40/40/50/50/60
Cooldown: 12/11/10/9/8
W: The Mark of Valiance
Hoatte highlights a nearby area on the map or targets an allied champion. Whichever he chooses, the area/target is illuminated with a plume of glorious light. Hoatte's next ability will center around this small, circular zone of light. If an ability would otherwise use Hoatte as an epicenter, that epicenter becomes this selected zone instead. Hoatte only has 3 seconds to use an ability before the light disappears, and goes on cooldown.
Placement Range: 550
Mana Cost: 75/75/80/80/85
Cooldown: 15/15/14/13/12
Additionally, Hoatte's Q (Rush of Courage) will cause him to leap towards and into this light, and stab down onto this zone, making a series of stone blades to emerge from around the impact zone - causing an additional 25% damage in a small, circular AoE around him, and slowing any targets.
AoE radius: 450
Slow: Slow: 40% for 1 second(s)
*After the use of a single ability's duration, this light disappears.
*If Hoatte is further than 1800 units from his light, the light disappears.
E: Might and Glory
Hoette raises his massive, stone sword/banner to rally any nearby allied champions to him - increasing the movement speed of allies moving towards him, and giving him a momentary boost in armor.
Cast animation: 0.75 second(s) (However, the ability takes effect instantly upon activation)
Ally movement boost: +60% (directionally)
Range: 1600
Duration: 3 second(s)
Buff:
Armor: +40% reduction
Duration: 3 second(s)
Mana cost: 75 at all ranks
Cooldown: 20/19/17/14/10
*If Hoette is in lane, this ability is a great way to help his jungler get to him, but it could also double as a psyche-out tool if none of his teammates are actually around, and he will still get a defensive buff either way.
*Hoatte can also use this in conjunction with his W (The Mark of Valiance) to select an area on the map for his teammates to move faster towards.
R: The Grand Phalanx
Hoette spawns three, shield-like walls that orbit around him (At 400 range). Each wall can cancel enemy projectiles. If enemies want to hit Hoatte with ranged attacks or skillshots, it would require them to time their shots to go between the slowly rotating walls, or for his enemy to get inside of his ring of walls (all units can move through these walls freely). This buff lasts a relatively short duration.
*These walls do NOT block turret shots, AoE's (including vertical skill shots), or channeled beam-type spells (Lux ult, Xerath Q, etc.)
Size of walls: 300 wide, 80 thick
Duration: 6 seconds
Mana cost: 100/110/120
Cooldown: 120/110/95
If Hoette re-activates this ability during its duration, the walls rise into the air briefly, and then slam back onto the ground with immense force. This makes the walls disappear, but it causes a circular AoE around them that inflicts physical damage, causes a mild knock-up, and stuns targets very briefly. This ends the ability's duration.
Animation: 0.75 second(s)
AoE radius: 550 around him
Knock-up: 0.75 second(s)
Damage: 150/200/300 (+50% AD)
Stun duration: 0.50 second(s)
Additional Cost: adds 25/30/35 seconds to the ability's cooldown (can be reduced with CDR).
*Hoatte can also use this ability in combination with his W (The Mark of Valiance) to give these shields to an allied champion. The re-activation, if used, is also applied around that targeted ally.
Some possible combos:
1.) Strong Initiation R, W (on an area), Q, R -Hoette activates his shields, leaps onto a targeted zone, deals some AoE damage, and then unloads a burst of intense CC with his ult reactivation.
2.) Retreat/Save Teammate W (onto ally) R, E -Hoette, while standing in a safe location. finds his nearby ally in peril, lends them his ult walls, and gives them a speed buff out of the fray towards him.
3.) Gathering Team to an Ally W (onto ally), Q, E, R (optional) -Hoette leaps onto his ally, gives the rest of his team a speed buff towards him. Hoette then has the option (if available) to put a series of walls around him and his grouped teammates.
Of course, there are many other ways to utilize these abilities - these are just a few examples.
