Lore:

Astronomers and mystics alike have been inspired by the spectacle of the night sky, and long admired its tantalizing mysteries. However, observation is but the preemptive toiling of primitive, terrestrial sciences – but there was one who rose above both the limitations and mindset of his time to exceed such expectations, and ascend into legend.

There was once a great machinist and philosopher, whose name has been forever lost to the depths of myth, who dreamt of a realm of both light and darkness – the emptiness beyond his world’s end. He had long observed the stars though his collection of complex instruments - slowly growing impatient with the world to which he was arbitrarily bound. Tormented by his frustration, he attempted to find a way by which to leave the clutches of his world. He began construction on a device with which he would one day reach this realm beyond the skies – a flaming spear with which he would pierce the very heavens. One night, he left abruptly in his contraption; he and his craft were never seen again. His questions, however, were met with answers no one could have anticipated.

Several weeks later, a foreign entity arrived from the great beyond – appearing to the croud at a market bazaar. It proclaimed a warning for all to hear. A local scribe recalled the events of that day - his quill stuttering. His account of the event was barely legible.

“He was not welcome there,” The figure bellowed in an angelic tone, “he was but a mere mortal in an immortal realm, and thus this difference sealed his fate."

This being, Esroph, was purposed with punishing this world for its crime – for scouts are forbidden from venturing the vast reaches of the heavens. Esroph spoke of forces beyond the skies with powers beyond comprehension, and with hatred of equal magnitude. They may see us as mere beasts that do naught but fester and roll in our own filth. however Esroph has chosen the path of mercy - to free mankind from their grievances by his own hand. He offered to stand against his kin – to protect the whole of Valoran amidst unfathomable odds – if only they would take up arms against themselves – to better all of Runeterra. If their task is complete, the threat of annihilation could be thwarted.

War mongers, killers, thieves, and other grievous actions of the like - their follies incur celestial wrath. Esroph, and those who would join him would purge the land of such offenders, whose various crimes would beckon further judgment from Esroph’s celestial brethren – punishment that was long overdue, and potentially imminent.

“I shall remain among you - to better your odds. The many need not pay for the few, yet your realm is not without its fair quantity of such outliers, whose follies are but pleas for their own destruction. May they be judged for the sake of balance.”

Design Philosophy:

Esroph is a very unique mage. His cooldowns are a major hinderance of his, but it is accounted for in his utility. His most powerful combos require him to utilize all of his abilities in certain orders, and executing abilities that compliment each other in order to accomplish amazing feats. Many of his abilities require a certain kind of ammo, known as a "Mold." Once his molds are spent, he needs to wait for them to replenish. It is always wise to use molds sparingly, and making them count. For instance: any successful use of Esroph's ult, "Enigma Gate," requires him to use all of his molds - rendering him vulnerable. His play-style is all about balancing the usage of his molds, and using the correct utility for the right scenarios.

Passive: Celestial Alchemy

  • Esroph possesses an item called "Celestial Molds" - which consists of 2 spherical molds that he stores as a build item (like a ruby sightstone with his own signature deployable molds instead of wards) that regenerate quantity on a cooldown timer (one at a time - much like Heimerdinger's turrets, or Corki's missiles). Mold quantity regenerates 10 seconds after each use (cooldown can be reduced with CDR). When available, these molds appear as small, stone spheres that orbit Esroph's body like moons. Upon use, they are molded into shapes to meet the specific needs of Esroph's abilities.

Esroph can upgrade the mold item with an "effigy" of choice, which grants his "Astral Node" (W) ability one of the following effects from the item shop:

Adamance Effigy (defense)

  • Gives a temporary (2.5 second) shield (40/60/80/100/120) (+0) to allied units who have a node equipped to them/step inside disk ability radius (parts of stones/disks glow lime green). Passively gives Esroph increase in armor, cooldown reduction, and health. (Armor: + 35) (10% cooldown reduction) (Health: + 150 (+8 per level))

Haste Effigy (speed)

  • increased movement speed boost for team members who have a node equipped to them/step inside disk ability radius (+40 movement speed for 1 second)(parts of stones/disks glow light blue). Passively, gives Esroph a slight boost in movement speed (6%), ability power (+45 (+2 per level) ability power), and slight resistance to CC (8% tenacity)

Necrotizing Effigy (poison dmg)

  • DoT magic damage against enemies who have a node equipped to them/step inside disk ability radius (parts of stones/disks glow violet). Also increases Esroph's ability power (+35 (+3 per level)), and gives mild cooldown reduction (10% cooldown reduction).

Total cost (for each): 1600 (only aloud to have 1 at a time)

*Several veins on Esroph's robes glow the color of his purchased effigy (IE: the boarder of his hood, the crescent shaped cut on his lower cape, and the embroidery on his legs.

Q: Annulus of Might

http://i.imgur.com/9c20g0w.jpg

  • Esroph transforms a mold into a large, stone annulus disk, and while suspending it beside him with an outstretched arm, the disk rapidly spins and expands in size. Then Esroph throws it forward with a luminous energy wave that flies in a straight trajectory (skillshot - much like anivia's Q). This damages all neutral monsters/minions within its line of fire - dealing physical damage to all in its path.

When this annulus reaches its destination, it lingers in that spot for 4 seconds. It remains idle there until it disappears.

-Mana cost: 60/65/70/75/80 -Other cost: 1 mold -Cast time: 0.25 second(s) -Skillshot range: 550 -Width: 125 -Damage: 45/60/110/160/210 (+30% AD) -Cooldown: 12/11/10/9/8 (keep in mind: this ability requires a mold as well)

W: Astral Node

http://i.imgur.com/EwTu6ol.jpg

Esroph fires a stone mold like a comet to a selected champion (targeted ability). Once cast, this spherical mold attaches itself to the targeted champion - orbiting them rapidly as a large stone (The stone would have a stripe around its middle that would glow the color of Esroph's effigy. The stripe appears jet black of he has no effigy). The effects of the “effigy” purchased from the shop would go into effect on that particular champion (positive effects work on allies only, the "Necrotizing Effigy” only works on enemies). If the ability is attached to an enemy champion, the mold orbits them in the same fashion, and the ability gives no benefits, but rather it temporarily reduces that target's movement speed by 20%(only the "Necrotizing Effigy" will go into effect when equipped to an enemy). This ability cannot be self-cast.

"Astral Disk"

http://i.imgur.com/fEjXo0a.jpg If an “Annulus of Might” remains idle around Esroph, he can target this annulus disk with “Astral Node,” and the node will combine with it. This combined disk hovers for a moment (0.25 second(s)), as the two items dissolve together, and imbed themselves into the ground – becoming a wide, circular piece of terrain. Its surface is covered in circuit-like patterns that glow the same color as the “Effigy” Esroph has equipped (The patterns are jet black if he has no effigy). This “zone” still reduces enemy movement speed like the normal instance of the ability would, but it applies the purchaced buff/debuff in the form of an AoE. This is also based on which “Effigy” Esroph purchased from the store.

http://i.imgur.com/jgmX3Z0.jpg (This is what they would look like in their respective "effigy" colors)

-Mana cost: 60/65/70/75/80 -Other cost: 1 mold -range: 600 -Duration of buff: 2.5 second(s) -Duration of disk AoE: 3.5 second(s) -Disk AoE diameter: 400 -Cooldown: 7/6.5/6/5.5/5 seconds (*keep in mind: this ability requires a mold as well)

*Esroph cannot possibly have two AoE disks active at once.

*Disk AoE's Would most likely have a non-diegetic ring placed around the disk's circumference to clarify the disk's influence. This ring would glow green for allied champions, and red for opposing champions (as well as respective colors for spectator mode and colorblind mode when applicable).

E: Ballistic Ether

http://i.imgur.com/phz4bKt.jpg

  • Esroph shoots a small, cube-shaped projectile of light energy from an outreaching hand (skillshot scaling from ability power) - dealing damage to a single target, and causing a short stun. However, this ability can only hit 1 target – enemy or neutral.

-Mana cost: 80/85/90/95/100 -Magic damage: 70/115/160/205/250 (+40% AP) -Stun: 1.25 second(s) -Projectile speed: 1600 -Ability range: 600 -Width: 100 -Cooldown: 12/11/10/9/8

R (ult): Enigma Gate

http://i.imgur.com/rvKGYiO.jpg

  • Esroph creates a large, circular portal made from miscellaneous shards of mold stone. These stones generate a translucent film within its center – pulsing with light energy. The portal acts as a champion-made structure – maintaining physical collisions upon its structure. Once the portal is placed it becomes fixed - without the ability to move or spin its orientation. The portal itself has no initial effects on its own, but the portal behaves according to what skillshot Esroph fires into this center film.

-Mana cost: 120 -Cooldown: 130/110/90 -Other cost: 1 mold -Duration: 8 seconds -Portal width: 500

If an Astral Node (W) is fired through it:

http://i.imgur.com/Pjs70w0.jpg

The projectile itself is canceled upon hitting the portal's inner film. The portal itself then expands in width for 0.25 second(s) - as if opening. After this expansion, all champions can move freely though the portal’s center. As the portal expands, the other side of the portal immediately begins to expel a fierce maelstrom of space rocks in a single direction. Within this AoE, allies who move in the same direction as the maelstrom gain 70% movement speed. Enemies that move against this maelstrom have their movement reduced by 70%. Enemies also receive mild physical damage over time for as long as they remain inside of the maelstrom's influence. Once the Enigma Gate produces this maelstrom, none of Esroph’s other projectiles can be amplified by that gate. This maelstrom lasts until the Enigma Gate’s duration ends.

-Portal size (after expansion): 600 -AoE width: 500 -AoE range: 850 -Damage per second: 35/75/145 (+30% AD) -Duration: 5 seconds

If an Annulus of Might (Q) is fired through it:

http://i.imgur.com/O3ncUKg.jpg

The annulus breaks upon contact with the translucent portal – splitting into multiple stone rings of different sizes that extend on the other side of the portal – forming gradually smaller rings the further they are from the portal (units can move through these rings freely). The rings rotate – generating a funnel of rings that act as magnifiers if a “Balistic Ether” is fired through it. Once the Enigma Gate produces these rings, none of Esroph’s other projectiles (other than Ballistic Ether) can be amplified by that gate. These rings remain until the Enigma Gate’s duration expires.

-Length: 500 -Width: 500 at the start, 300 at its end -Duration: 5 seconds

If a Ballistic Ether (E) is fired through it:

http://i.imgur.com/4kSdEkr.jpg

(MUST have fired an “Annulus of Might” into the portal first to form the amplifying rings)

When the rings made by firing an “Annulus of Might” are active, it is then ready to accept a "ballistic ether." Once a ballistic ether is fired into the gate, the projectile becomes an amplified Ballistic Ether that follows the path made by the rings, and continues in a straight trajectory – based on what direction the Enigma Gate was placed. This increases Ballistic Ether’s damage and projectile speed, as well as significantly increases its range (global). The Ether’s stun is still applied normally, and it can only strike a single champion.

-Range: global -Projectile speed: 2200 -Magic damage: 110/190/280/400/550 (+100% AP) -Stun duration: 1.25 second(s) (unchanged)

*The ether must be fired into the portal from the correct direction (the open side) in order for it to be amplified.

*If an Ether is fired into the portal W/O the Annulus of Might being tossed in first, the ether is not amplified in any way.

Other notes:

(Recall animation could be interesting to toy with)

Things Esroph might say (potential VO):

Upon selection:

  • Judgement is upon them.

Joke:

  • They know naught the gravity of their follies. Their punishment shall be. . . Relative.

  • Any joke, you say? What an awful lot of . . . Space to work with.

Taunt:

  • All are doomed to oblivion, but you are next to go.

While moving:

  • And so it begins. (At game start)

  • All ends must first begin. (At game start)

  • I bring knowledge from the great beyond.

  • The answers lie among the stars.

  • Forces beyond comprehension.

  • The purge of mortal flesh.

  • True power is not controlled. It is merely borrowed.

  • I am but a conduit of true power.

  • Fulfillment is found in solace.

  • Judgment is punctual, potent, patient.

  • They know naught the forces they provoke.

  • They have no patience, no prudence, no purpose.

  • Their heresy knows no bounds.

  • Their magic is a lie.

While attacking:

  • Through me, they face oblivion itself.

  • They wisp away – like gas and dust.

  • A waste of precious matter.

  • Such fragile forms.

  • A futile struggle.

  • They are miserly, savage, disposable.

  • How DARE they.

Upon casting “Annulus of Might” (W) into an “Enigma Gate” (R)

  • It is decided.

  • Prepare to be judged.

  • Bear witness.

Possible skins:

  • Astronaut Esroph (I might post the artwork for this at a later date)

I really you enjoy Esroph as much as I do! It took a lot of work, yet I had a lot of fun doing it. I'll be making more champions in the near future - I have 5 or so that are in my little creative pipeline with full kits already made. I'll be putting them up soon, but in the meantime, you can also check out my other champions below:

I think we need another "cosmic being" champ besides Bard who just... well plays a mini game and blows a magical horn.

I also like the way that Esroph is a control mage that can end up combo'ing and doing really cool shit. Not like Ryze ewqewqrwqrqwewqeqwrqwewqe combo, but actually thinking it out and choosing the ability needed for the situation.

You got my upvote for a really neat champ concept, along with artwork! +1

Hey there, first of all, great idea. I love it. The artwork is great and I think that the interaction between his abilities is cool; I like that they also work well by themselves. I think that you should do away with the whole Effigy system. It's cool and all, but it adds way too much to an already complicated kit. I realize that his E would need to change for this to work, but it really is too much in my opinion. Instead you could have the target Ally just get a speed buff and the target enemy just get slowed. The Q's interaction with the E wouldn't really need to change that much, it just works both ways instead. Just and idea, you can think on it more.

Also, the last part of the R, where you Q and then E could be worded differently. Does the stun transfer to everyone in a line? If so I don't see a reason for him to ever not use that version of his R maybe you should make it so that the other version of his R reduces the cooldown a bit to incentivize it's use. To me it just seems that the stun version is a lot better and I personally would almost always pick it. I think that it should also matter which direction he shoots the projectile into the ability. Like is the portal locked into the direction he R'ed or does it change angle when he shoots a projectile through it?
