[Champion Concept] Cenric, the Unbowed Reaver
#Lore
On the vast slopes of the Ironspike Mountains, Cenric, who was no more than a week old at the time, lost his parents to a terrible, bone chilling blizzard in one of the harshest winters ever seen in Valoran. While on the near brink of death, he was found by a man who took him back to a small secluded village within the mountains. When the villagers heard of him bringing back the child, they thought that he was making a mistake. They believed taking this child, this outsider, into their village would bring down omens and a curse among them, for they had secluded themselves from the rest of the world. The man ultimately refused to listen and took the child in as though he was his own.
As Cenric grew to a young child, he was eventually told the truth about his real parents. It made sense to him for why the village hated him so much then. Why the other kids bullied him, why the elders looked at him with disgust like vermin. Even though the man took him in, he too had distrust towards some of the actions he did, such as wandering too far from the village. It couldn't be helped however. Cenric was curious with what the world outside the village was like. Never the less, though, the man still treated him more proper then anyone else. He taught him a little bit on how to hunt and survive, as well as a little bit of blacksmithing and even how to wield a weapon, which Cenric found to be the most exciting thing to learn.
One spring, however, as he hunted through the forest for some dinner, he came across a rather strange sight: a girl with purple/blue scaled body and eyes that glowed like hot embers in a fire. She noticed his presence and quickly turned to him in preparation for a fight, but Cenric just as quickly lowered his bow and tried to convince her that he meant no harm. She was hesitant at first but slowly lowered her guard to him. There they talked to each other about who they both were and he learned that she was called Shyvana. However Cenric soon told her that he had to immediately leave for while they chatted, it had gotten much later then he realised and he still hadn't found any dinner yet. As he went off, he called out to her that he would appreciate it if they met again some other time. And so they did the next day, learning more about each other and quickly forming a friendship. For the first time, Cenric felt he found another friend outside of the man who raised him.
Unfortunately, this was not meant to last forever. One day, after two years with them both continually meeting each other, she suddenly seemed to vanish from him. he searched for her at their usual meeting locations but not a trace of her was anywhere. Cenric wondered why and how this could happen. He then remembered something she told him the night before she disappeared. She told him about another of their kind hunting them and why she may have to go away with no possible return. Cenric, now broken in spirit and hope, began a slow walk back to the village. The sun had just gone down behind the mountains by the time he reached the edge of the village but he was not prepared for what happened next. As he approached the edge of the village, he saw a dragon fly just above the trees, going away from the village. At that moment he knew what had happened. He rushed out of the forest to see the entire village set ablaze by the great winged beast. Cenric raced to find the old man back at the house, but as he approached he saw an angry mod of the surviving villagers in front and they turn towards him in a fit of rage, wanting blood for the omen that they think he brought to the village at last. They threw the head of the man, his father figure, down towards him only to have it stop near his feet. They beheaded him for harboring such an omen child. Now the mob started to close in on him, ready to tear him to shreds.
Cenric, who had been tormented by these villagers for years and who only had a few friends in his life that are now gone, finally snapped. He launched himself at the mob in a rage, determined to kill them all for what they've done to him. Even while they struck blow after blow at him, it didn't seem to stop him one bit as he slaughtered each of them one by one. Soon the few remaining villagers who were still alive fled from the terror that they invoked and Cenric, heavily bleeding and cut from the fight, began to wander into the mountains as a light snow began to fall that night.
He wandered through the mountains for quite some time before passing out, once again near the brink of death. When he came around, he found himself among what looked like a small group of barbarians living within the mountains themselves. They explained to him that they called themselves reavers, ancient warriors from long forgotten history who were gifted with powers by an ancient being in times of need. The leader of the group offered him a place among them for however long was needed. Cenric, with little idea of where to travel to instead and out of gratitude, accepted. So over the next few years, of his late childhood to late teens, he trained with these warriors, quickly learned of their power, their history and heard stories about the rest of the outside world. Yet even with all that he still was treated as an outsider, for he never saw why he should fully follow all of their traditions nor why they weren't allowed to leave the mountains and explore the world if they wished to.
Yet again, his story turns for the worst. One fateful night, the leader of their group apparently died in his sleep. So the next in line for leader stepped up, a man who somewhat had a rivalry with Cenric. His first order was to have Cenric killed on the spot at that moment unless he agreed to bow down to him as everyone else. He immediately knew what had happened the night before then. The new leader had convinced the rest of the tribesman to turn against the old leader, saying that they had lost their way for letting outsiders in. As Cenric refused to obey him, the leader order to slaughter him right there, to which he was prepared. As the sun began to set again, Cenric found himself standing within a sea of blood within the main hall, the bodies of the warriors who he trained along side sat at the top of the surface and with the leaders body mutilated beyond recognition. And so, with one last glance around another home, he left into the night to finally explore what the world was.
And so in the following years he wandered through the world, working as a mercenary to whoever needed work to be done. Word soon spread like a wildfire about his work and deeds. Some tell of him as a famed monster slayer and hero, others tell of him as an infamous criminal and murderer. Some tells are true, others false and some are just over-exaggerated. However there is one thing certain that everyone can agree on. If someone does meet him, best they not provoke him unless they wish his blade against their throats.
##Primary Role: Fighter ##Secondary Role: Tank
Health: 585 - 2248 Health Regen: 8.75 - 22.25 Fury: 100 Auto Range: 150 Attack Damage: 56 - 118 Attack Speed: 0.64[+0% - +43%] Armor: 27.7 - 83.2 Magic Resist: 32.1 - 53.4 Movement Speed: 345

> http://i.imgur.com/uhREz2C.png **Passive - Blood Frenzy ** Cenric gains 2 Fury for hitting any enemies and 4 for killing a unit or being struck by an enemy. He will slowly lose fury if he has not attacked or been attacked within the last 7 seconds. Cenric also gains .2-.8(based on level) bonus attack damage for every 1% of missing health he has and gains 10-50%(based on level) bonus attack speed if below 50% health. Enraged: Fury generation from attacks and killing units is doubled but fury gained by being struck by enemies is disabled for the duration.
Notes:
- He will not lose fury while his ult is active.
> http://i.imgur.com/0BNqYCf.png Q - Ravaging Strike Cenric's next attack deals within the next 4 seconds deals bonus physical damage at the cost of Cenric's health Cost: 5% of Cenric's current health Cooldown: 7/6.5/6/5.5/5 seconds Bonus Damage: 40/65/90/125/150(+50% AD) bonus physical damage Enraged: Multiple uses of Ravaging Strikes after the first within 5 seconds of each other cause additional 20/25/30 bonus damage, stacking up to two times.
Notes:
-
The Ability will reset Cenric's auto-attack timer.
-
The bonus damage while enraged while only start after the very first use within the 5 second window, e.g after first use, you use the ability again and so you next attack deals an addition 20 damage and another use deals the bonus max of 40 damage at that rank.
-
The bonus damage within the multiple usages is based on the level of the ultimate, not the actual ability if you're confused or wondering.
-
The ability cannot reduce him below 1 health.
> http://i.imgur.com/Wb2ZNuw.png W - Ring of Pain Toggle: Cenric radiates with an aura that damages nearby enemy units as well as himself. As well, while enemies are in the ring, their wounds don't seem to seal an normally as they would. Cost: 10/25/40/55/70 health per second while active Cooldown: 5 seconds Range: 475 Damage: 30/40/50/60/70(+25% AP) magic damage Reduced Healing: 10/15/20/25/30% Enraged: Enemies within the ring are slowed by 35% and upon leaving the ring take damage over time for 2 seconds equal to half of the current damage the ring is capable of.
Notes:
-
The reduced healing is not counted as grievous wounds, however it only applies to enemies within the ring and will not linger on them if they leave. So yes, you could have them at 70% reduced healing if you took ignite, but it would be huge overkill(in my opinion)
-
Like the reduced healing, the slow immediately vanishes when they leave the ring while you are enraged. The damage over time is essentially one more damage tick from the ring, just its over 2 seconds instead of 1.
-
The ability will automatically shut off if Cenric's health is lower then what is needed to sustain it.
> http://i.imgur.com/ggNRX3d.png E - Lifeblood Cenric quickly dashes towards target enemy unit. Upon contact with the unit, he stuns them, deals damage, and heals, increased per point of fury used. If Cenric is at full fury and uses this ability on an enemy champion, he is instead healed for the base amount plus a % of his missing health. If his target is within his auto-attack range, then he will simply stun and damage the target, heal himself and will not dash towards the target. If he uses this ability on a monster or minion, the cooldown is halved. Cost: 100% of current Fury Range: 300 Cooldown: 23 seconds Stun Duration: 1 second Damage: 50/80/110/140/170(+60% AD) Min Heal: 20/40/60/80/100(+40% AP) Heal per Fury: .55/.7/.95/1.05/1.2 (+.75% AP) Champion Heal at Full Fury: 15% of Cenric's missing health Enraged: Damage to target is increased by 1% per 1% of Cenric's missing health. Bonus heal per fury and % heal against champions is doubled if Cenric is below 40% health.
Notes:
- The important thing about using this ability against champions is that you only gain the % missing health heal if your at full fury. Being at 99 fury will only grant you the bonus heal per fury.
> http://i.imgur.com/czg9dQ8.png R - Insensate Rage
Passive: When this ability is active, all of Cenric's other abilities become empowered during the duration.
Cenric launches himself into a near-uncontrollable fury, becoming enraged for 10 seconds and removes any cc on him and becoming immune to it for 1 second. He generates 2 fury a second for the duration and gains .3/.4/.5% damage reduction per fury (up to a max. of 30/40/50%). His auto-attacks will also generate a shock wave behind who ever he is attacking, dealing 30/45/60% of total damage to enemies caught in the wave. At rank 3 of this ability, Cenric will become immune to any taunts, fears, charms, flees, gains 25% tenacity and any enemies close by when he ults will become feared for .5 - 2 seconds, depending on how close they were to him.(The last part of this ability I've decided to be removed. In short while looking back at it, having 50% damage reduction and a cleave already feels powerful enough and adding all of the immunities and tenacity on it when maxed feels OP and very overloaded on one champion, especially in late game. The last thing I want to create is another Irelia.)
Cost: None
Cooldown: 160/130/100 seconds
Notes:
- The shock wave on his basic attacks is essentially the same as the cleave on Titanic Hydra.
#Role: The whole idea for Cenric is obviously a top laner but at the same time could be a jungler as well. In lane, he can he could potentially out-damage most opponents if given one or two tank items and maybe at least one damage item. At the same time he has a fairly strong form of heal and CC if used at the right time. In the jungle, he would have a decent clear speed early on and when it comes to ganks can either dash towards them to lock down opponents from the start or wait until they burn everything trying to escape from all the damage you did to them only then to lock them down for the killing blow. Either way, when it starts coming to mid and late game, he starts to become a tanky frontline that can deal a great chunk of damage if they try to take him down. However if they fail to do that quickly he'll deal them a lot of damage thanks to his passive.
#Items The following are some items that I feel could fit in with the champion based on his kit.
Trinity Force: Attack speed, rage, CDR and having sheen to activate on Q makes this a really good choice for him to get.
Titanic Hydra: The health and damage is a welcome as well as the fact that it can go right along side his ult. Can also help him with wave clear.
Maw of Malmortious: Gives a good amount of damage, MR, and lifeline can severally help him if he needs it. Amor pen. is just a nice bonus.
BotRK: Overall just a great item if needed to help shred down tankier opponents and slow can help catch enemies if Lifeblood isn't available.
Death's Dance: CDR, high damage and can help keep you alive.
Wit's End: Attack speed, MR and capable of dealing some magic damage and stealing MR never hurts.
Bloodrazor & Cinderhulk: This can go either way depending on what you prefer. Bloodrazor is nice since you get more attack speed and dealing % damage is ok, but most of the time you might want to go Cinderhulk just for the extra tankiness.
Spirit Visage: Health, CDR, MR, and you get healed more from Lifeblood. A near "must always get" item.
Randuin's Omen: Armor, Health and having a AoE slow can really help in most situations. Also less crit damage from your pesky enemy adc's & Yasuo.
Warmog's Armor: Insane amount of health and regen. Nothing more.
Dead Man's Plate: Can be useful if you need more mobility and if your team is heavily ahead.
Guardian Angel: Very helpful if you tend to die a lot or have a chance of finishing off your opponent.
Boots of Swiftness: Can be switched with Mercury Treads if you wish.~~ i just prefer these because you're getting 25% tenacity from when you ult and besides Mobility boots, these offer the highest movement speed in the game so far.~~
Now these last few items I put as 'maybes' in some builds.
Black Cleaver: It's not necessarily bad, i mean you get health, rage and can shred armor but overall there are better choices you could have.
Mortal Reminder: Again, as stated before in notes of Ring of Pain, you can use this to get insane amount of health regen penalty, but it would be overkill and really only be great against a team that is very effective of healing themselves.
#Personality His personality is largely based off of his history of how the villagers and reavers treated him to the few friends he has met over the various tales and adventures about him. Most of the time, in the eyes of most people who see or meet him, he is very apathetic & cynical. He doesn't like to be ordered around like a dog or be provoked. At times, he is cold and ruthless, especially towards people who wish for him to bow before them or are vastly cruel to others, slavers and tyrant lords for example. By his nature and past, he is a loner and outcast, never really able to feel like he fits in some community. All of that, plus some knowledge to the people that he almost enjoys bloodshed, makes him a very dangerous individual to know by.
However, with that said he also is known to be a very loyal and protective to those he has made friends with. It just takes time for him to try and get use to people trying to be kind to him and actually get to know him rather then cowering away from him in fear or trying to take his head off. Even when its not with friends, it has been shown that he can also be kind hearted and caring, though this is usually a very rare in terms of strangers. As well, he is known to his friends as being very humerous, similar to Iron Bull and Varric from the Dragon Age series. Other times he is very sarcastic and even has a very black sense of humor. Humor asside, Cenric is also very impulse, pragmatic, and at times has anger management issues. He can even become a little avaricious when it comes down to mercanary work under two conditions: one is that the job he accepted was more trouble then he asked for and wants a little extra or two he is given much less then what he was promised for the job so either he has to beat the crap out of the employer or even kill him just to get the money. He will not, however, treat money as more valuable then his friends lives and go out of his way to save them if necessary.
Even so, as a powerful warrior he has been known to retreat. Because, unlike Noxus and Demacia, he is not one to immediately die for someone else even if he is a mercenary. All that really matters to him at the moment in life is just surviving and living. On top of that, retreating can usually help him gain better positions to fight in if he is at a disadvantage, something Noxus and Demacia can't apparently see due to their stupid military code. The last part I can add is that he usually avoids butting into other peoples problems. If someone is having trouble with say a sick, dying person and they ask Cenric to help, he will most likely not accept if there is nothing for him to gain out of it. Now if it were a situation that comes down upon him, like thugs occationally popping into a tavern to cause some trouble and Cenric is in said tavern, then he would step up and confront them since they are provoking him as well as the tavern(Also because he feels like a tavern should be neutral ground from bloodshed). Something like that can also be said about him if something big were to happen, say the Watchers did finally return and had to be turned back or the Void has finally made a rift big enough to enter their world and needed to be sealed shut. Something along the line of those phenomenons is something Cenric couldn't simply turn his back on and hope it'll fix itself. He would openly try to help stop it in any way he could.
#Relationships This is just the general relationship he has towards various countries and characters after he began traveling around Valoran.
Demacia - Overall, he finds their city to be visually astounding and their military one the best around. However he can't help but feel that most of the people believe that they're the greatest good in the entire land and none of them can do no wrong, as well as being obsessed with justice and bringing down tyranny.
- In short, Cenric finds Garen to be nothing more then a fanatic over justice, as well as a fool for believing in his "code of honor." He also feels like he should expand his three word vocabulary from "VILLAIN", "JUSTICE" and of course "DEMACIA".
- He views Jarvan as the ideal leader of any city or army: charismatic, confident and strong willed. Yet even with that he still holds the title of prince and thus Cenric still has distrust with him nor would he find himself serving under his banner, at least not without getting payment.
- Quinn has actually been a surprise to Cenric for she is possibly the only other person from Demacia who he can tolerate for quite some time. Has no idea if she can really talk to the bird, is extremely lonely or is just crazy however.
- He feels that her goal of vanquishing all evil is admirable, but ultimately is in vain (no pun intended). Over the course of his travels, Cenric has come to learn that no matter what, people will always strive to seek that which is forbidden and for any kind of power they can get their hands on, even if they're told that the power they seek is evil or not. On top of that, she is performing a this task by herself and so when she passes on, all her effort will most likely be undone unless someone else tasks up where she left off.
- Similar mind set to Vayne but feels like purging the Shadow Isles is more plausible. It's a more focused target, and relatively could be done within Lucian's lifetime. For that, he gives the man credit.
- Even with her disappering and years of not talking to her, he still recognizes her. As such he still feels like they are good friends, but he cannot say if she still feels the same about him. Let alone is she still even remembers who he is or the few years they spent together.
- He has heard of the famed duelist many times in his travels. All he can say is he wishes to stay away from her blade if possible. One wrong move and he's dead. He knows his limits on who he can fight.
Noxus - similar to Demacia, he is impressed with their military and architecture. He also seems to understand their "survival of the fittest" life style as it does make sense to him in a way. As well, most residents there are his most often employers for either dirty work or even helping out their military. He does, however, disagree with some of their methods of magic, like witchcraft and necromancy, as well as their way of thinking for constant conquest and complete rule.
- Finds a leader who he actually could follow into battle. He does what is necessary and tries to bring his nation to glory (even if it is more violent)
- The less respectable brother is nothing more of a man who cares more about his ego and attention of people then his remaining family.
- Has very little trust in the woman and even in everything she says.
- Unlike her sister, Cenric feels he can trust Katarina at least a little bit with certain affairs, but not fully.
- Essentially the same feeling towards Cass but even more distrust.
&
- Whoever they were when they were alive is now completely gone and what is left of them now is the reanimated abomination of their corpses. Overall he feels very disgusted towards them.
- Is very uncomfortable when near him.
Shadow Isles - From the tales he has heard when he lived with the reavers and on his journeys, the Shadow Isles seemed to him as almost a grim story meant to frighten children. Alas, this was far too real for it to stay a tale. He utterly hates the thought of the dead coming back to life and so most of the residents of the Isles are all equally hated, with an exception.
- The reavers told him of this tale repeatedly to try and frighten him, but in the end Cenric wasn't scared, nor is he hateful towards her. In short he almost has pity for her and wishes for a way to find her peace before fully becoming a hollow vessel of her former self for the rest of time.
- Actually encountered him while on a task from a noble. Barely survived with his life from that encounter. The others that he was accompanying weren't so lucky.
Bilgewater - Cenric has only ever been to here once and even then he didn't really met anyone of great importance.
- Has heard tales of him since his only visit there. He wonders to this day what other kinds of demons lurk through the world.
Freljord - Growing up near the area, he can safely say that if the barbarians and trolls don't kill you, the weather will. To what he knows, many more reaver clans still exist in parts of the Freljord. Usually its best for him to stay away or at least keep his visits short, lest they come find him for revenge.
- Overall he feels she should be the true leader of the land. They both understand that it takes more then uniting together to survive in a place like this. Though he will admit she's not the kindest person around, it makes sense for the Freljord is kind to no one. He's also surprised of how strong she actually is.
- Has only been told of the ancient legends of her and that somehow she lives to this day trying to bring back the Watchers. If these rumors are true, then it'll be a goal for Cenric to try and stop her.
- As much as he tries to respect her idea, he doesn't see her as a strong-enough leader. Her idea of uniting the people is admirable but to him it feels like a house of cards. Works great when together but then when disaster strikes or one wishes to break off, it'll all fall into ruin.
- He has heard about the Barbarian King and wonders if his power to shake off death is similar to the gifts the reavers received, if not was given to him by the same being.
- Drinking buddy and friend of his.
Misc. - These following champions are just the few that I felt he could've encountered in the past or just have some connection to him.
- Believes that he may be one, if not the one, who granted the reavers their powers. In a way, he somewhat wishes to know if he could help him control his power better and have it become more powerful as well.
- Both have a rivalry due to the fact that they are both mercenaries and have had a complicated past with each other.
- Jax once helped Cenric by giving him some pointers on how to fight better. He is also Cenric's friend and drinking buddy.
- has a large distrust in anyone or anything trying to cause the void to enter their world.

- Surprisingly, Cenric has had little interaction with yordles. Rather impressed on how they've survived as a species this far.
- Absolutely stunned that such a being can exist. Really likes his sense of humor and personality.
#Trivia
-
The entire character overall was inspired by multiple characters from other series that I've played or have watched. These include Geralt from The Witcher series, Guts from Berserk, Varric, Iron Bull and Oghren from the Dragon Age series, Bronn from Game of Thrones, and even a little bit of Sven from Dota 2.
-
For those who wonder or question why I added Shyvana into my character's backstory, there are two reasons. One is she's essentially my favorite jungler to play and two is because I was heavily inspired by this comic.
-
The total amount of time it took for me to create was almost a year now that I think about it. It started right around the beginning of my senior year of high school and through all that time of trying to get homework done and everything else, I had to go through on multiple drafts on what his abilities were going to be, how to try and work in the fury mechanic into the kit, what I feel he would look like, etc. As well, the entire kit of his was once again inspired by the Dragon Age series, more specifically the Reaver class. I've just always loved that berserker kind of where the closer you are to death the more dangerous you become. Also this wasn't my first attempt to try and bring this kit together. My very first idea can be found here. Looking back on it, it's pretty much crap and I'm actually a little ashamed that I made it but I still didn't want to give up on the reaver idea.
-
If your wondering if he technically is a good guy or a bad guy, he's a little bit of both and neither. He's never really got a clear idea of what is right or wrong through his life and so as he travels he just takes each situation by year. On top of that, as said in his personality, he is very impulsive. If someone is threatening him, he'll fight fight them, even kill them if necessary. He doesn't care if they'er a noble or not. If he sees an opportunity to for employment, he'll go do it. And at some points if he's feeling kind and sees someone who needs help, he'll go help them. He's never really been taught to think before he acts. To him, if he sees something that needs to be done, he'll go out and do it right away. There's no point in waiting around hoping someone else will do it.
-
The Unbowed part of his title is mostly for the fact that he doesn't really wish to serve under any banner or ruler. Most of his life he's been alone and lived by his own standards and so that's how he wishes to live. He will not bow down to someone and serve under them, even if they are a dear friend of his or even if they try to force him.
-
Cenric has a sweet tooth .... not really an important fact but I'd figure it would add a little more character to him.
And so the end has finally come. I plan on bringing more concepts in the future but probably not as long as this one. Have any questions, comments, concerns, or even constructive criticism? Let me know. Any and all feedback would be appreciated and if you do have questions about his abilities or whatever else I will happily try to answer them as best as I can. Vote up if you enjoyed the concept and if not then please just move along. Thank you all.
