Third weekly reminder. Lux should use her crit animation when autoing marked targets.

Terozu··88 votes·2,394 views

Lux should use her Crit animation when autoing targets marked with her passive, illumination.

For those of you who don't know her crit animation is her twirling her wand, it's just about never used, despite this she has a quote about twirling her wand which she almost never does.

Her using it to hit marked targets would fit her character and voice over, and overall just look adorable.

Please Riot!

Even if this would result in 100 (previously deemed impossible) Lux ADC mains to emerge from the depth of soloQ spamming the boards with their complaints...I still think this is a reasonable idea.

"mid lane lux stealing our animations!!i!"

"OUR ANIMATIONS!ii¨"

"TERK ER ENIMEYTHENS!!!!"

"R MEITONS!!"

Yeah I could totally see that one coming

Lux "Gj rito you totally destroyed clarity for lux adc, I can no longer tell the diffrence between usual crits and her passive, even worse when they overlap. This is just blatant favouritism towards mages and as always you shit on minorities such as our proud community of long time lux adc mains."

Gragas "YEA THEY TERK ER JERBS!"

And then we get the other side:

Jax "stfu you filthy adc scum, you just want to abuse your OP pick, imo all adc's should be nerfed to shit, just remove crits completely yo! Learn to 1v1 me coward! I know how to press all my buttons at once, my champ at least takes skill!"

Tanks: "How dare you damage me!?(buffs) Wait why do I deal no damage!?(buffs) We're not op git gud!"

I agree, why wouldn't rito implement an animation that's already in-game. The fine tuning and attention to details like this make this game so much better...

ADC lux is a thing. And she builds crit.

The reason they won't, and shouldn't, do this is that Lux can auto in the time it takes to send out a spell that will mark an enemy with her passive thus consuming the mark when it reaches the target, so when the auto animation happens the target is not marked thus it would be a standard attack in either case.

Terozu3 votes

And? What's your point here?

OzX13 votes

You can't know whether an attack will proc her passive beforehand. Its therefore impossible to decide if crit animation or normal animation should be used.

TeCoolMage5 votes

Doesn't Quinn use a special animation for her passive too

Leaf on Bush3 votes

Ranged basic attacks can always "fail" for example if the target dies a splitsecond earlier or they use stasis, the animation will still be used though.

TeCoolMage5 votes

Exactly, why not give the same treatment to Lux passive? If the auto fails, still use the animation. There are other indicators afterwards to tell you if it's a fail anyway

But how do you decide which animation should be used? If target has a stack of passive when you issue the commande it crits?

It wont crit just show the crit animation. I'm sure itd be simlle enough a change.

Illumination counts as a debuff. And there are champs with special auto animations vs debuffed targets i think.

Maybe. I was just clarifying someone’s point so i dont know !

To be honest, that's probably the best option.

I don't think people should be too concerned about this. In fact, it could lead to a bit more skill expression for Lux. People would get used to the crit anim when they're marked, so if Lux is able to attack then mark, it could lead to some very surprising situations for the opponent.

Kind of similar to how Diana can throw out her Q the moment she lands on someone with her ult, and refresh her ult. Albeit, Lux would be FAR easier to pull off.

Sometimes i use the E slow to get the auto and pop it right before. It would be a normal animation, then a "passive auto". In other words i auto before thier marked but still get the passive damage

It doesn't matter whether the auto attack hits or not, It was still a crit/or not and therefore had the appropriate animation, even if it missed or whatever.

But her passive evaluates differently from Lux's. With Lux's passive, it always procs if the enemy is marked, no matter when the mark was applied relative to the AA. With Quinn's passive, only an AA after the mark is applied will trigger it (IOW, if you AA someone as Quinn and valor marks your target before the projectile hits, it doesn't pop the mark when it hits). Changing Lux's passive to work like Quinn's would allow it to use her crit animation, but it would also be a pretty serious nerf (a lot of Lux's poke potential is tied to timing her passive right).

auto lands on marked target -> always consumes mark auto starts on marked target -> always crit animation

no need to change anything with her passive

That's exactly the point I was trying to get across, I'm not always the most eloquent though. Thanks for the added clarity.

Not sure if this is true or not, but I think it does detect if it's a passive auto beforehand. There have been many times when I'm procing on minions where the mark will disappear by the time the auto gets to the minion, but because I autoed it while the mark was on the minion, it still procs the extra damage.

Tzuyu Is My Bias1 votes

The point was that Lux can auto while the Q or E casts are still flying and haven't marked a target. So the system cannot know if the target will get hit by the E or Q so that they will have the passive mark on them so it cannot determine if a crit animation or a normal animation would be used for the auto that is already flying to the target, even if in the end, the E/Q would hit and the auto would proc the passive.

Alevity Xiaku1 votes

Then it would just be a normal auto? The animation check is when the auto is cast.

Tzuyu Is My Bias1 votes

Then the whole change loses most of its meaning. Half the time you are proccing your passive without the crit animation so whats the point of even adding it? it just makes it confusing with added animations

The point is so that you see the animation lol. The clarity is the mark on your fucking champion it's been that way the whole time.

And make her basic attacks on Illuminated targets Criticially Strike, please!

To be fair, back before item 3285 was an item, I would buy item 3087 on Lux sometimes. Honestly, I still buy item 3085 sometimes on such champs. Lux Sona Janna Bard Although TBH, I'm not sure if it these kinds of items ever did synergize with such champs, but I'm pretty sure it works on Janna, even if it's just for the movement speed bonus. The issue is that these items tend to be bought when winning anyway, so it's hard to tell if they provide any kind of power spike. Especially since most of the time I'm playing support and won't have much damage anyway.

Terozu1 votes

Runaan's would help with Lux's wave clear.

ZaneShadow1 votes

If that is true I deffinitly agree, but I didn't even know champs have Crit specific animations and I'm skeptical as a result. But I do hope it is true and that this gets some influence. It seems like an easy change at least, though with all her skins and her ultimate Skin, it could get complicated.

Terozu1 votes

Yeah, normal Lux twirls her wand, idk about SG Lux, and Elementalist Lux puts her staff out in front of her horizontally and lets out a burst of energy. And simply coding it for the character would affect all skins.

Garens crit animation is a stab. Amumu does a funny little spasm. Theres a video showcasing almost all of them. I could find it for you if you want.

Fairyfleur1 votes

Yes, please. It looks so nice.

fizz user1 votes

Lux twirls her wand often when she's in her running animation. Other than that, this seems like a good idea, but I'd rather have some sort of new animation if this were to exist.

Leaf on Bush1 votes

I am surprised that nobody came up with the "I'd give her a better wand to twirl".

Terozu1 votes

The only other wand she'd want to twirl is Ezreal's.

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

I think the issue is that Lux's mark proc is an "on hit" effect rather than an "on auto" effect.

BubbaV1 votes

god who the hell cares its an animation

Terozu1 votes

Quite the few people. The animators worked hard on it, their efforts should be dosplayed.

RIP Tahm Kench1 votes

It would look weird when you get the crit animation, but the mark wears off before the projectile hits. Would people then use the animation to justify late hits still proccing her passive?

Terozu1 votes

No... just... no.
