What really irritates me about Yasuo is that he's supposed to be a late game champion.

Terozu··96 votes·19,466 views

This is a wall of text, TLDR at bottom. Also some banrates.

AND JUST TO BE CLEAR, THIS IS NOT A "YASUO IS STRONG AND OP" THREAD. IT IS A "HE IS ANNOYING AF TO DEAL WITH REGARDLESS OF HOW BALANCED HE IS" THREAD

A late game scaler, a melee marksman who can deal massive damage in a teamfight late.

But his early game is fucking godlike.

As a mid laner, there are like 3 champs who consistently win lane against him. Zed, Irelia and Riven. How often do you even see Irelia or Riven mid? The rest of the mid lane roster? 4 will generally win. Like 6 can go even against him with a slight edge, the other 25 people are all but guarenteed to lose the lane.

Take him bot lane? The only champ who stands a chance of winning lane is Lucian.

The only role in which he isn't basically guarenteed a free lane phase is top lane. And even then 10/18 of the most common matchups for him will be even or in his favor, though admittedly those other 8 will most likely dominate him.

So what's my point? Yasuo is the goddamned Viktor Top of mid lane. He is so annoying and frustrating to fight. He's like 3rd teir on movement speed which gives him a higher running speed than 75% of the champion pool, and that's on top of a .1 second cooldown dash, which is targetted, admittedly, but come the fuck on. Akali got reworked because her Q ult gameplay pattern was hard to fight against and basically a stat check, but Yasuo can basically do the same thing as long as he has a non marked target, of which your lane minions provide several. He can dash in, Q dash out before you can even generally respond, and if you do respond odds are either has his shield up or is just going to windwall anything you throw at him.

It's impossible to just poke down his shield as a mid laner because in order to get into range to guarentee the hit, you have to be in range for him to jump to you real quick, then he gets to jump back out because of the low cooldown. Then there's his windwall originating at his position. He can throw the shield in the wrong way and be fine because of this. I don't even think Braum can do that.

On top of all of this safety, and pure frustrating gameplay that repeatedly forgives any mistake he makes, the game is literally coded to help him and provide even more safety. His ult literally forgives turret dives because, for some reason, he needs that. You can't even say it's because he'd take turret shots while stunned, but his ult does proc turret aggro until he's not stunned anymore because that's when the damage happens. And if he's diving with no minions, he deserves to take the damage, because he dove without minions.

Why, on top of being tied for 3rd highest movement speed, while having a targetted .1 second cooldown dash, and a windwall that can block shots that have already hit or came from the opposite direction he cast the spell in.

And then we have his Q, which first of all has a maximum CDR cap of 67% for one thing. For two, every 3rd Q is going to be a tornado that moves fairly quick even for a skill shot, not to mention the confusing af hitbox, his first two Qs barely count as skill shots due to how wide it's hit box is, and he can throw the tornado out every 12 - 2.5 seconds. With no cost. He doesn't even have to hit two consecutive Qs at that point, he can miss two in a row in fact, and the fourth one will still become the Tornado.

And on top of that, it has an interaction with his E that turns it into a huge aoe all around him, meaning that in addition to getting that .1 second cd dash, with the high movement speed he is then granted even more damage for using the dash as if it didnt already super charge his shield and make him next to impossible to hit with skill shots. On top of that his dash speed is boosted by movement speed making him even harder to hit.

On top of that the aoe nature of his Q makes it so virtually noone in the game can farm as easily as him, allowing him to utilize his needlessly strong 'weak' early game to shoot straight to his intentionally overly strong late game.

And on top of all of this his ultimate resets his shield while being coded to position him in the most advantageous position for diving and grants him massive armor pen making building defensively on anyone not an outright tank a waste of gold.

Maybe this belongs in RANT tbh, but I just, why, just why.

Like honestly, Passive that doubles a stat and gives a free shield roughly every 5-20 seconds or when he ults. Q - Aoe auto attack that can become aoe when dashing and he doesnt have to stop moving when casting it. W - An aoe projectile deleter, that blocks projectiles from any direction and is bigger than his own hitbox, which covers like half a lane at max rank, it also originates from him and moves slightly meaning he doesnt have to aim it to block a spell. E - .5-.1 second cooldown which gets faster with his already 3rd teir movement speed, increases in damage as it gets cast repeatedly and quickly charges his passive shield. R - Aoe Suspension that is coded to position him favorably gives him the free shield and makes armor all but useless for a whopping 15 seconds even though he can already delete people faster than that. Also, he can use it from off your screen from any displacement.

I don't think anyone else in the game has a kit with as many features as Yasuo. I think that at most, people have matched him, at which point they had features removed for being overloaded.

Riot has publically acknowledged he is frustrating to play against, and even said they'd minorly rework him before deciding not to for some reason.

Riot Rep said they havnt nerfed Riven yet because only NA bans her, but more than just NA bans this guy. He has like a 65% banrate, which isn't just an occasional banrate but often near constant unless someone else is utterly broken, which means he is literally banned pretty much every draft based match.

Noone wants to deal with this guy, at any elo, he is ridiculous, he makes laning unfun, he makes fighting unfun, he makes everything about the games he is in unfun.

When there's a Yasuo, odds are the only one who's going to have fun is the person playing him. Playing Yasuo is like playing pre nerf Meta Knight. He is, without question the epitome of a try hard character who is nothing but frustrating to play against, for no, good, reason.

TL:DR Yasuo is overloaded and needlessly frustrating to fight, to the point where he has a near permanant >50% banrate, will appear as a ban or a pick in around 80% of your games. He makes the game unfun for no justified reason, and is a hypercarry with a ridiculously strong early game.

More ban rates!

NA - 65% Korea - 65% EUW - 68% EUNE - 65% JAPAN - 68% OCEANIA - 65% RUSSIA - 66% TURKEY - 68% (Zed is at 77% there, first time someone is more banned than Yas) BRAZIL - 69% LAS - OMG! 57%! Below 60! LAN - WOW! 55%! It's a fucking miracle!(Both Lan and Las ban Zed more.)

Any other regions? Because that's NINE separate regions with a >60% banrate for him.

NINE. WHOLE. REGIONS. Seriously why, you basically can't even play him in draft. And it's not because he's strong, it's because he's annoying as fucking hell.

It merely shows that this entire LoL community is in denial.

...when a thread such as this is voted down.

U cant convince a community that is in denial.

WashyMoney3 votes

Because the whole premise is false. He is not meant to be a late game champion, and he isn’t.

Sure he does a lot of damage late game, but that’s not what makes late game champions strong. Just like Draven can eat your whole health bar in 2 autos but he’s not considered late game.

I’m not saying he’s bad late game, but he definitely excels in the early/mid game and his late game is probably the weakest out of his states.

Like what is he supposed to do in a late game situation? Dive backline as a squishy melee when enemy carries have multiple items? He can also build somewhat tanky after his core, but since he is a Crit based carry he loses a crap load of damage for every AD he sacrifices.

Yasuo is out dueled by actual duelists (Jax, Fiora, Yi, Udyr). And out teamfighted by actual teamfight champs (Orianna, Syndra). So his options are actually pretty bad in the late game.

Terozu9 votes

The premise is he's a frustrating champ.

And btw he was designed as a melee crit marksman and his highest winrate is 40+ minutes. Everything about him is late game.

WashyMoney1 votes

Except you literally just said it: melee.

Being a squishy melee is a death sentence in the late game. Whereas lategame melee carries like Fiora/Jax/Yi usually end up beefier and harder to kill with much better defensive tools in melee range. Even then they are subpar teamfightersx

It’s the same reason Nasus can do a billion damage late game but still be worse late game.

So melee carries are usually relegated to split push duty. Which Yasuo gets immensely outscaled on too by Yi/Fiora/Jax/Trynd/Nasus. He also has much worse escape tools when splitting compared to the above as well.

The JigSAW28 votes

The real joke is that he's a late game champion in the sense he prevents a late game from ever occurring since he destroys almost everybody from the start of the game.

I mean, what could go wrong? No mana, super low cooldowns to the point its like playing URF (point and click at that), double crit chance of a normal champion, a 510 health shield that regenerates in combat, a W that blocks all incoming projectiles for four seconds at all ranks, and an ult he can cast 27 seconds at rank 3 with 15 seconds of it granting 50% bonus armor pen! Not to mention max rank Q is 1.3 seconds and lowest rank E is HALF A SECOND cooldown. How do you punish somebody who gets abilities back that fast if they mess up?

Zed, Yasuo, and Ahri show what's wrong when you give champions with ridiculous amounts of burst and sustained damage CC and high mobility to juke and get out of retaliation with. They get busted.

Zed has an effective 1200+ range with his ult 625 range+650 shadow swap range. His shadow is 650 range with a Q base range of 700 (Zed has a longer skill shot than many mages, it's dumb an assassin outranges some mages to begin with), what the hell, why does this champion get the perks of an immobile artillery mage (range) while having more mobility, more burst, AD itemization (far better than AP, especially when dealing against armor/resistances).

650 shadow range, 625 ult range that gives him an immunity window for juking on top of another shadow for juking, multiplies his damage scaling massively, gets a slow on his 650 range shadow also allowing him to use his aoe melee ability from range and his Q's benefit from animation cancelling. And to top it off, after 0.5 secs of his R combo he can freely swap back out of retaliation range).

And after all those offensive perks on a champion that regenerates energy faster than mages regen mana in early laning phase (more staying power, he can start longsword with 3 pots, mages with dorans/dseal and 2 pots), has great waveclear as well.

Ahri gets a bullet speed charm faster than Zoe's bubble with less cast time, more built in burst (people can react to getting hit by bubble by positioning behind minions or walking far enough away quickly enough to avoid eating too much damage. To top it off, Ahri heals up trade damage rather quickly and has massive self peel capacity with her ult and orb speed up on top of point blank charms giving her a free peel with massive damage built on top.

I really feel like some CC skills that hit at point blank range from high range champs should have Fizz's mechanics of scaling CC duration based on the length traveled by the skill.

All these champions alongside Yasuo enjoy massive assassination potential, godly escapes and juke tools like Yasuo, and avoid retaliation really easily despite their obscene damage potential.

At least with the likes of Orianna or Syndra, once you get on top of them they are done for.

And then to add to the pantheon of these ridiculous hypermobile, high burst, high damage evasion champs, they put in something like Sylas who also does ridiculous damage for the amount of built in mobility and survivability and waveclear he has.

Something needs to give, either the damage, or mobility+waveclear.

Insane that you think ahri has 'ridiculous amounts of burst'.

A charm combo eats 70% of a champ's hp with electrocute even early. She is right in range of Zed levels of burst and the only champ more ridiculous than her is LeBlanc. There's a reason Ahri's sitting at 53%+ WR alongside Zed and why Midbeast alongside others also place her in S tier mids.

Thefrostyviking3 votes

Zed levels of burst is pushing it i think, a double Q from him at 5 and a E+eletroclute does 450 base damage +320% bonus AD.

Ahri with Q-E-AA does 228 AP damage, 90 true damage, and 60 AD damage +135% bonus AP.

Her total base damage is 380.

Now it does seem close to Zed right? But problem is that his combo has a massively better scaling of AD compared to her AP so he ends up doing a lot more anyway.

Did we factor in W in that calculation and the 20% bonus damage intake from her charm? And the extra damage from cheap shot as well?

I was also talking about Zed in laning (early phase). Zed is by far the best scaling assassin for some fucked up reason despite being one of the strongest laners as well while Fizz/Katarina/Talon are horrible laning phases and forced to roam/babysat by jungle to do anything.

It also helps to keep in mind Ahri's charm cd is nearly half the cd of Zed's shadow so her laning phase against opponents that can't reliably counterburst her (like Zed or Fizz or a Syndra or Yasuo) is much more oppressive. Essentially, if you're some Annie or Vlad or Swain being harassed by Ahri your windows of CS/retaliation are much smaller than Zed's.

Thefrostyviking2 votes

Ahri hitting W in lane is ridiculously hard, because the short range puts her in place to eat a full enemy combo if she cant re position quickly without ult.

Especially given that she has to move away from minions to hit charm, so no i did not factor it.

But i did count the E increasing half her Q damage a bit,,,,,,,forgot to do so for electrolute come to think of it but its just 13 more damage-

Ahri does generally not run cheap shot does she? I thought the rune giving magic pen when ulting was the thing.

And its true that Zed´s advantage isnt fully showcased in lane as he hasnt aquired all that juicy AD yet, however he does get 20 from runes, 10 from his starting longsword and that alone adds up to 96 bonus damage, Ahri gets 40.

And i didnt factor in Zed getting his passive either, just 3 easy safe hits from both sides.

Now you are correct that Ahri has a shorter charm CD compared to Zed´s shadow, however you fail to consider her mana.

If she casts Q and E 3 times each she is down 435 mana out of 495 at level 5.

Thus if she tries to push or harass in lane she´ll be empty before anything actually happens, the only time her combo has a positive return is when the enemy has 0 sustain, cant trade back (because she is mobile&ranged she lacks resistances and health) so she is legit liable to dashing, eating a stun and just exploding.

I know because i mained, Syndra, lux and Ahri for the longest time in the midlane, and i recently picked up Morg playing her into one just yesterday.

Its true, Ahri´s Q is great in lane, but she is seriously not good before she gets her item 3802 because she just runs out of mana for nothing, does no real damage unless you eat both Q and E (which doesnt really happen when you sit behind your minions and pay attention)

In my mind Zed is way way scarier, he runs of energy so he doesnt stop casting, low CD Q to generally farm with safely but he can harass if you step too far, his W-2Q-E-electrolute)-AA-ignite--AA can legit kill an enemy if they eat the unfiltered edition if he harasses just a little first.

His big combo has great range too, and although it does have a notable downtime its still not so bad that he is utterly helpless without it, he just backs up and throws a Q at your slow moving face if you try to go in range to stop his farming.

Only champ i ever felt myself reliably able to deal with Zed on in lane is Syndra, and that is because her range is really damn good, her trade pattern is about as obnoxious as Renekton toplane and she stays mobile while casting allowing her to dodge enemy retaliation even when attacking.

Same people here defending yasuo are most likely the people crying about trynda having 50% crit rate in late BECAUSE ITS NOT FAIR ITS SO OVERPOWERED ONLY MY CHAMPION CAN BUY HALF THE CRIT ITEMS NEEDED TO REACH MAX CRIT THIS IS OUTRAGOUS! Not to mention yasuo literally has his Q that crits while trynda has to chase you everywhere. Yasuo can just dash around his minion wave, surpress you and deal r%%%%%ed amounts of damage while blocking all your projectiles. Muh balanced, bad early. Pleeeease, if you can't even admit this champ is overtuned you shouldn't be playing this game overall.

I'm not defending the trynda stats, it's equally shit, but at least you can escape him. The only way to dodge yasuo knockup with E is either on your D or F key.

sneakydoug5 votes

One time, playing as nautilus, I targeted him with my ult.

He dashed around, killed 2 allies, and dashed away, all after I cast my ult and before it hit him. And I certainly couldn’t peel him or keep up with him.

I’ve banned Yasuo every game since then, so I don’t worry about him anymore.

DuskDaUmbreon4 votes

His early isn't "Godlike" - It's just good.

It's counterbalanced by having basically zero midgame. Kinda along the lines of Kindred - decent early, no midgame unless they steamrolled, and eventually a god-tier end-game.

Terozu22 votes

Yasuo will win lane like 70% of the time statisically. There are roughly 10-15 champs in the entire game who will win lane against him in an equal player skill scenario, and that's stretching it for goodness' sake.

I don't think there is any other champion in the game who can claim that.

Look at his matchups.

There are like 10-15 people who have greater than a 53% lane winrate against him across all lanes which they have data on. The rest will either roughly go even or lose the lane.

Frosted Tips1 votes

Those seem very fishy stats to me. I would be beyond surprised if Yasuo on average beats Renekton in lane and this website is trying to say he does it like 70% of the time. That seems pretty sketchy. Do people consistently use this site and find it reliable?

Terozu8 votes

That's Renekton's winrate vs Yasuo.

Renekton beats Yas in lane 70% of the time.

Frosted Tips1 votes

Ok my bad misread it. So Mid lane it is like 60-65% of the time he wins and Top it is under 50% and also his overall winrate is 48%. So I don't really see a problem with power.

And with the frustration aspect I I know from stats Blaustoise has posted before that every other region finds Yasuo drastically less frustrating than NA does.

Terozu5 votes

Winrate over all does not matter. His power, for the millionth time is not the problem.

Top lane, it is 55% wins lane and mid is 72%.

That's the percentage of match ups which he wins lane in.

Terozu6 votes

By the way he has a banrate of over 65% in both NA and korea at the moment. Europe West it's almost 70%. in EUNE it's 65%

that's 4 separate regions which all hate Yasuo quite a bit. As in, he's the most banned champ in all 4 regions.

ban him every game. it's an annoying solution, but if yasuo is the primary thing that makes this game less enjoyable for you, it is a solution, and one that i think a decent segment of the playerbase has gone with, considering yasuo's banrate

Cybernetic Ghost2 votes

I don't play ranked. I got tired of this game playing normals. The last time I tried ranked, it was such a negative experience that I swore I'd never pick it up again. That was also about the time I started cutting back my play time from every week to a few times a month. Now I'm at the point that I peek in the Boards here just to see what's new and the game is so different now than when I first started that League is no longer worth my time. I might play again tomorrow, or next month, or maybe never. Riot really has to do something to entice me back, otherwise I'm not playing another match anytime soon.

Ackelope1 votes

normal draft is a thing that exists, and is much preferable to blind pick, if you ask me. It's all I usually play, if I have the opportunity to pick.

Nerfing a champion because people do not like it is just plain dumb and it should never be done. Annoying =/= OverPowered

Disulfiram6 votes

A champion that is banned literally in every game, even when he's not strong, might as well not be in the roster at all. They could accidentally delete him and nobody outside of blind pick would even be able to notice.

That is the problem, the main reason why he needs to change.

Thefrostyviking9 votes

That literally just happened with Akali, Irelia, aatrox and others though.

Akali and Irelia were both garbage tier and they got nerfed and had core mechanics removed due to "player frustrations".

There is a precedent so why in the world would Yasou have a reason to be spared?

iDarkWind1 votes

Dumb statement and false. Akali, Irelia and Aatrox were extremly overpowered in the high elo. Akali the shroud mechanic that could dive you underturrent was extremly overpowered, Irelia was such plain stupid with her Assassin's level of damage and durability of a Bruiser and Aatrox was so oppresive at first that they needed to nerf his early game (he was meant to actually scale well in the late game rather than being early game focused).

None of those are even close to the case of Yasuo.

Thefrostyviking7 votes

Dumb statements and false?

Irelia and Akali had 44% winrate and about 8% pickrate each in masters when the nerfs came through.

Aatrox was like 47% and 10% pickrate.....i dont actually remember but it should have been around there.

These champs might have been broken in the hands of LCS players but barely useable for those directly below them and utterly useless below that.

And bullshit on Aatrox being meant to scale well.

His Q is literally what his entire kit is built around and that ability only becomes worse and worse as the game goes and mobility and kiting rises, the time this ability is at its strongest is when he sits in lane and can hit opponents who lack movespeed and move predictably trying to farm.

Terozu4 votes

Never said I wanted him nerfed.

Buff him for all care.

Just remove the bs handholding mechanics that make him such a pain in the ass that he reaches 60% banrate while in a weak state.

iDarkWind1 votes

Hello? That's just ... dumb? What if it was the champion you liked to play? Why do we all on board's feel bad for Aatrox players after reworks, meanwhile when looking at other champions we just say "fuck their players". Completly dumb in my opinion.

The basis of your thread makes no sense. Where is the proof Yasuo is "supposed to be a late game champion"?

Terozu7 votes

Critical hit is specifically a late game build and always has been.

Marksmen are supposed to be a late game class and have been for a long time.

Yasuo was designed as a melee crit based marksman.

His strongest point is late game and his winrate is at his highest in 40+ games while he has also been described as a late game champion by Rioters at various points.

And the basis of my thread is he's a frustrating champ so your comment makes no sense.

AirKingNeo1 votes

he has reduced crit damage.

Terozu7 votes

His crit is reduced by 10%.

That's all well and good.

Except he can have more ad in his crit build than any other champion.

Every other champ must build at least 2 attack speed crit items to hit 100% crit. Which means they will have less ad overall.

Which means that in the end his crits will still do more damage than other champs.

Unless one of my allies declares Yasuo, I always either ban Yasuo or ask one of my teammates to ban him. From my point of view, there's just no reason not to ban him. He's an annoyance regardless of what your team comp is.

Riven Fiora Jax Irelia Nasus (literally after 6 beats anyone these days) Mordekaiser Vladimir Yasuo Sylas Tryndamere Tryndamere Tryndamere Tryndamere MasterYi ( to some degree) Kled Kennen Renekton

To clarify, some of these champions are not good late game unless they go item 3161 (i.e renekton) but everyone with a brain does it so im putting them in here.

Also fuck Tryndamere brainless champion gameplay consists of 'lmao whoops got 2 crits in a row heres an ignite lol your dead ok get ready to be tower dived over and over once i hit 6 lol i still scale lol your gonna be forced to defend against me all game long lol you cant outplay shit if you dont have a 2 second stun against me wtf lol where is your AD and move speed xd wanna run away eat my dash with basically no cooldown because i can keep criting lmao ez lane sustain'.

Tie his dash reset to landing Q. Even if its the circle spin. It give us something to play around besides waiting for a mistake. Yas needs this or stacks on his dash

Hemulen Magi2 votes

I hate Yasuo's ultimate armor penetration. It's invisible power that feels tacked on to cover something that should work to keep his snowballing in check. Yasuo already counters virtually every squishy champion either from the start of the game or by midgame. Juggernauts can't catch or lockdown Yasuo, and hoping Yasuo players suicidally jump onto health-stacking juggernauts 1vsX isn't a reliable option for counterplay. I think that if Yasuo's team composition permits armor stacking against him, then tanks should be able to deal with him. The counterplay versus armor stacking tanks should be magic damage champions, not band-aids on kits like Yasuo's.

UnboundHades1 votes

last time i checked he isnt meant to be a late game champ due to his passive cutting down his crit damage in exchange for more crit chance, hes more of a mid game champ that doesnt fall off late

"he isnt meant to be a late game champ due to his passive cutting down his crit damage "

the only problem is this one is not apply to him. Or tell me why is he dealing the same dmg with one basic attack with phantom+ie build as a tryndamere with phantom+ie build?(I'm talking about the critical hit damage and not the normal basic attack damage.) every time when I play against or with him, that "cutting down his crit damage", not working.
